Small iatrogenic infarcts, which can occur as a result of surgical or endovascular procedures, are often only seen on diffusion-weighted MR imaging. They often do not lead to any overtly appreciable clinical deficits, hence the term covert or silent infarcts. There is relative paucity of data on the clinical impact of periprocedural hyperintense diffusion-weighted MR imaging lesions, partly because they commonly remain undiagnosed. Clearly, a better understanding of iatrogenic periprocedural diffusion-weighted MR imaging lesions and their clinical significance is needed. In this article, we describe the current limitations of our understanding of the significance of iatrogenic diffusion-weighted MR imaging lesions using exemplary data from the ENACT trial (Safety and Efficacy of NA-1 in Patients With Iatrogenic Stroke After Endovascular Aneurysm Repair) and outline a framework for how to investigate their clinical impact.
Absence of coronary artery calcium (CAC) identifies asymptomatic individuals at low cardiovascular disease risk. Carotid artery plaque is a marker of increased risk, but its association with cardiovascular risk and incident CAC in people without CAC is unclear.

Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis participants with CAC score of 0 at enrollment who also underwent carotid plaque measurement using B-mode ultrasonography were prospectively followed for incident coronary heart disease, stroke, and cardiovascular disease events, and CAC (score >0 on up to 3 serial computed tomography scans). The association of carotid plaque presence and plaque score (Ln[score+1]) at baseline with cardiovascular events and incident CAC was evaluated with Cox proportional hazards regression models adjusted for demographics, risk factors, and statin use.

The dried tuber of A. heterophyllum is used in the traditional Chinese medicine, Rhizoma Arisaematis, which is used to treat convulsions, inflammation and cancer. In 2017, typical mosaic virus-like symptoms were observed in A. heterophyllum in Jilin province, China. To further identify the pathogens, we conducted RT-PCR using virus- and genus-specific primers to amplify partial genome sequences of Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV), Tobamovirus and Potyvirus, respectively. The CMV primers showed specific amplification, but the Tobamovirus and Potyvirus primers did not. We further cloned and sequenced the 2b, MP and CP genes of the CMV-Ah isolate. Phylogenetic analysis showed the CMV-Ah isolate belonged to subgroup IB. To our knowledge, this is the first report of CMV infecting A. heterophyllum in China. Its production is challenged by numerous diseases affecting production and quality. During our survey, ten samples from the gerbera plants exhibiting phyllody disease symptoms were collected from Bangalore Rural District, Karnataka, India. The association of phytoplasma with the gerbera phyllody samples was confirmed by PCR using 16SrRNA, SecY, Ribosomal protein (rp) and SecA gene-specific primers. PCR products were amplified from all ten gerbera plants using phytoplasma-specific primers. The amplified PCR products were cloned and sequenced; the sequences of the ten clones were identical. Therefore, representative isolate (GePP1, Gerbera phyllody phytoplasma) was selected for further analysis. The sequence analysis showed that GePP1 shared maximum nucleotide (nt) identity of 97.1% (16SrRNA) with Eggplant big bud, 98.7 to 98.8% (SecY gene) with Tomato big bud, 99.2 to 99.6% (rp gene) with Alfalfa witches-broom (EF193371) and 99.1% (SecA gene) with Sesame phyllody phytoplasmas and that it belongs to the Ca. P. aurantifolia (16SrII) group. This result was well supported by the phylogenetic analysis showing GePP1 (16Sr RNA, SecY, rp and SecA genes) closely clustering with the Ca. P. aurantifolia 16SrII group isolates reported so far. The virtual RFLP pattern generated for the phytoplasma from gerbera was different (similarity coefficient 0.89) from the reference pattern of Ca. P. aurantifolia (16Sr II) subgroup after analysis with four enzymes (BfaI, Hha1, Sau3AI and RsaI). Based on the threshold similarity coefficient for a new subgroup (delineation should be set at 0.97), the GePP1 may be considered as new subgroup of Ca. P. aurantifolia (16SrII) group.
