Bedside Cot 6 Months Plus
Bedside sleepers let you have your baby in the same room as you without the risk associated with sharing a bed. They're a great choice for babies.
Models with adjustable height settings will fit perfectly on the majority of bed frames. Choose fabrics that are easy-to-clean and comfortable to breathe.
Safety
A bedside cot can be described as a bassinet that is attached to the bed's side for safe cosleeping. It can be used to bring your baby to you to comfort them, feed them or to help soothe them at the end of the night. It's also an excellent alternative if you've had a c-section. It's different from a Moses basket or cot due to the fact that it has high sides to ensure your baby isn't able to be pushed out. Some models have tilt features that can aid babies suffering from colic and reflux. They are also slightly bigger than Moses baskets, which can make them easier to move from room to room.
The NHS and safe sleep charity The Lullaby Trust advise that newborns should be kept in their own bassinet or cot in the same room with their parents but not in your bed. Sharing beds increases the risk of overheating or suffocation. Bedside cribs offer the best of both worlds, giving your baby the opportunity to be close to you at night, but in their own private and secure sleeping space.
Make sure that the crib is in compliance with the latest safety standards. It should be BS EN1130:2019. Also, ensure there aren't any gaps or parts that could allow your child to get trapped. Choose a mattress that has a firm, flat surface. A mattress that is too sagging or that is too soft could increase the risk of SIDS for your baby.
Look for bedding that is well-fitted and free of pillows or blankets that are sloppy. Pillows are a suffocation risk and duvets can be a hazard to baby's face. It is a good idea to make use of a fitted sheet instead, but make sure it's sized correctly.
The SnuzPod4 was highly rated by our MFM mother testers as a crib suitable for use in bed. It has been shortlisted for the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards under the category of the Best Cot, Moses Basket or Crib. It is attached securely to the bed, and it can be adjusted to ensure a perfect fit. It also comes with a rocking function and can be adjusted to incline for reflux. It is also an excellent option for those with narrow or small beds because it doesn't take up much space.
Design
It is essential to think about the design of your bedside crib because this is where you baby will spend the majority of their time. There are a variety of cribs available in a variety of colors that match your decor. Some have features such as mesh windows to keep your baby's eyes open or drop-down sides to facilitate access. Some even have incline functions to aid in reflux.
You can raise and lower the majority of cribs to your bed height which makes it easier to get in and out of the bed. Some cribs can also be used as travel cots. This is a great option when you are travelling or visiting relatives.
Home tester and MFM mother Leya found that the SnuzPod 4's sleek, Scandi style was a perfect match for her bedroom and said that its compact fold was ideal to save space. She also appreciated the fact that the crib's one side can be lowered, allowing her to pick up her baby without having to leave the bed. This is especially beneficial if you have had a C-section or recovering from a Caesarean, as it means you can sleep near your baby for longer.
Another mum who enjoyed using the SnuzPod 4 was Jasmine, who commented that it was simple to move from room room, something she didn't get with other cribs she looked at for bedside use. However, she did note that it required some effort to lift and lower the crib as the handle was quite stiff.
Another crib for bedside that is easy to fold and move is the Tutti Bambini CoZee Air, which was shortlisted in the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards for The Best Cot, Crib or Moses Basket. Its slim frame and neutral color options will fit in with most bedrooms, although some of our home testers thought the bars were too close, which means they could get caught on clothing or toys for babies. bedside cots between the bars should not exceed 6.5cm (2.5 inches) to ensure that your baby's head doesn't get caught in. This crib is also ideal for babies suffering from reflux due to the ComfortAir breathable system assists in regulating their body temperature.
Comfort
You'll feel more secure if are able to reach your baby quickly to feed them in the middle of the night. With a crib at your bedside, you can do this easily without getting out of your bed. They also make it easier to soothe babies back to sleep. However, if you want to sleep with your baby but don't want the hassle of waking up for every feeding A moses basket is the better option.
Most cribs that are bedside can be positioned on the bed's side and allow you to view and reach your baby easily. Most have mesh windows to allow you to monitor your baby without disturbing him. There is also an option to treat reflux that can help with colic and reflux.
This crib comes with a wide range of features, but we're most impressed by the ComfortAir mattress that is breathable and regulates your baby's body temperature and increases airflow. It's smaller than other cribs which can be beneficial in areas that are limited in space. Our mom testers are of the opinion that this is still a great choice for sleepless, long nights.
The cot is secured to the bed's side using adjustable straps. This minimizes the chance of gaps where your child could become trapped. It is equipped with a flat, firm mattress that complies with safety standards and promotes good sleep habits.
One thing to keep in mind is that your baby may start to climb out of the crib once they're able to sit, usually around six months. This is the reason it's crucial to put them in a cot or another sleeping arrangement once they outgrow the crib.
Another thing to think about is how light the cot is and whether it's suitable for travel. Some of our mothers love the fact that this crib can be disassembled for transport However, some find it difficult to assemble. It is also difficult to keep clean, so you'll need to clean it regularly with a cloth and cleaning product.
Storage
A bedside cot that is 6 months old plus is an upholstered bassinet cot that can be fixed to the bed's side for a safe and secure co-sleeping. These are great for soothing babies to sleep, night feedings, and for mothers who had a c section to keep their baby close.
It is essential to select cribs that are in line with the latest safety standards. Verify that the bars are enough apart to avoid your baby's head becoming trapped and check that any sides that drop down are secured and don't open abruptly. Also, beware of any transfer or stickers on the cot's surface as they could pose a choking hazard.
Emily's favorite bedside cot for her baby is the Next2me Magic. It was selected for the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards in the categories of Best Cot or Crib and Best Moses Basket. It's a good size and offers plenty of storage space for all the baby necessities. It is also compact and lightweight enough to fit in a travel bag if you're planning to move it around. If you want something simpler, she recommends Shnuggle Air alongside Crib.
