01 μM. Results showed that synthesized magnetic fluorescent microspheres had high sensitivity, selectivity, and reusability in detection. Moreover, they have significant potential value in fields such as biomedicine, analytical chemistry, ion detection, and fluorescence labeling. In the era of our "plastic age", polyurethanes (PUs) represent one of the most versatile polymers that are produced by the nucleophilic addition reaction between isocyanates and various polyols [...].Exosomes perform important functions for intercellular communication through extracellular signaling pathways, leading to the regulation of important biological processes, including cell proliferation, but also systemic dysfunctions such as preeclampsia (PE). However, the inhibitory effects of mesenchymal stem cell (MSCs)-derived exosomes in PE remain largely unknown. Thus, we assessed the possibility that exosomes could transport long non-coding RNA H19 and the correlation between H19 and the apoptosis of trophoblast cells. The expression of microRNA let-7b and forkhead box protein O1 (FOXO1) was characterized in placental tissues of PE patients. Gain- and loss-of-function experiments were performed to examine the roles of FOXO1 and let-7b in trophoblast cells. Interactions between let-7b and H19 as well as between let-7b and FOXO1 were confirmed by a dual-luciferase reporter assay, RNA pull-down, and RNA immunoprecipitation. HTR-8/SVneo cells were co-cultured with exosomes derived from MSCs overexpressing H19, followed by invasion, migration, and apoptosis assessments of trophoblast cells. We found that let-7b was highly expressed and FOXO1 was poorly expressed in placental tissues of PE patients. N-Methyl-D-aspartic acid nmr Furthermore, H19 acts as a competitive endogenous RNA against let-7b, and let-7b directly targeted FOXO1. Moreover, H19 could be transferred to trophoblast cells via MSC-secreted exosomes. MSC-derived exosomes overexpressing H19 decreased let-7b, increased FOXO1, and activated the protein kinase B (AKT) signaling pathway, thus increasing invasion and migration and inhibiting apoptosis of trophoblast cells. These results suggest that MSC-derived exosomes overexpressing H19 may be a novel direction for therapeutic strategies against PE. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia worldwide, characterized by progressive memory impairment, behavioral changes, and, ultimately, loss of consciousness and death. Recently, microRNA (miRNA) dysfunction has been associated with increased production and impaired clearance of amyloid-β (Aβ) peptides, whose accumulation is one of the most well-known pathophysiological markers of this disease. In this study, we identified several miRNAs capable of targeting key proteins of the amyloidogenic pathway. The expression of one of these miRNAs, miR-31, previously found to be decreased in AD patients, was able to simultaneously reduce the levels of APP and Bace1 mRNA in the hippocampus of 17-month-old AD triple-transgenic (3xTg-AD) female mice, leading to a significant improvement of memory deficits and a reduction in anxiety and cognitive inflexibility. In addition, lentiviral-mediated miR-31 expression significantly ameliorated AD neuropathology in this model, drastically reducing Aβ deposition in both the hippocampus and subiculum. Furthermore, the increase of miR-31 levels was enough to reduce the accumulation of glutamate vesicles in the hippocampus to levels found in non-transgenic age-matched animals. Overall, our results suggest that miR-31-mediated modulation of APP and BACE1 can become a therapeutic option in the treatment of AD. Salinization of global freshwater resources is a concerning health and economic issue of the 21st century and requires serious management and study to understand how, and by what mechanism, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) is changing in major watersheds. Oil and gas (O&G) produced water is a complex and saline (10-300 g/L TDS) wastewater often disposed to surface waters post-treatment. However, in western U.S. states, beneficial use of minimally treated O&G produced water discharged to ephemeral streams is permitted through the USEPA National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) for agriculture and wildlife propagation. In a remote Wyoming study region, beneficial use of O&G NPDES effluents annually contributes 13 billion L of water to surface water resources. The primary O&G TDS constituents are sulfate and sodium followed by chloride and calcium. Significant TDS increases from 2013 to 2016 in a large perennial river (River C) impacted by O&G effluent disposal, slight TDS increases in a perennial rivedownstream rivers. This study suggests a multi-isotope (87Sr/86Sr and δ34SSO4) approach is often necessary for fingerprinting salinization sources and determining best management practices because multiple salinity sources and environmental mechanisms may need to be identified to protect water quality. Four cruises were performed in the Bohai Sea (BS) and Yellow Sea (YS) to ascertain the levels and distributions of gaseous elemental mercury (GEM), dissolved gaseous mercury (DGM), methylmercury (MeHg), and total mercury (THg) during 2012 and 2014. Their concentrations and Hg0 flux exhibited clear spatial-temporal distributions. The GEM level over the BS in spring (2.71 ± 0.49 ng m-3) was significantly higher than that in fall (1.98 ± 0.91 ng m-3). Air masses with elevated GEM mainly originated from northern China. During the two cruises in 2012 over the BS, the mean DGM concentration in spring (35.7 ± 4.6 pg l-1) was comparable to that in fall (32.4 ± 4.6 pg l-1). During the spring cruise of 2014, the mean DGM concentration in the BS (52.8 ± 12.5 pg l-1) was comparable to that in the YS (52.4 ± 14.1 pg l-1), while during the fall cruise of 2014, it was significantly lower in the BS (26.7 ± 14.4 pg l-1) than in the YS (57.2 ± 17.9 pg l-1). DGM represents a small portion of unfiltered THg in the BS (3.95%) and YS (5.12%). The MeHg and MeHg% values were higher in nearshore areas than in open sea, indicating higher productivity in coastal regions. The Hg0 flux in the YS (4.56 ng m-2 h-1) was about twice that in the BS. The annual emission Hg0 fluxes from the BS and YS were 2.71 and 23.68 tons yr-1, respectively.
