The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between the ultrasonography parameters of transversus abdominis and neck pain manifestations in women with chronic neck pain.
Thirty women (mean age 38.44 ± 9.56 years, BMI 25.57 ± 3.32 kg/m
) with chronic neck pain were included in the study. The pain severity, disability scores, and bilateral pain pressure threshold of upper trapezius were assessed. The thickness of transversus abdominis in-rest and abdominal draw-in conditions were evaluated by two-dimensional ultrasonography. Pearson's correlation coefficients and linear regression statistics were determined.
We found a moderate correlation between the thickness of transversus abdominis in abdominal draw-in and the pain pressure threshold of right (
= 0.636,
< 0.001), and left upper trapezius (
= 0.403,
= 0.03). Moreover, there was a moderate correlation between the pain pressure threshold of the right upper trapezius and the thickness of transversus abdominis in-rest (
= 0.498,ove neck pain symptoms.Emerging documents revealed that E2 enzyme family has been implicated in regulating the progression of numerous human cancers. Ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme E2 J1 (UBE2J1), a member of E2 enzyme family, has been reported to participate in the biological process of medulloblastoma, while little is known about its functionality in endometrial cancer (EC). Gene expression at the mRNA and protein levels were identified using RT-qPCR and western blot analysis, separately. The alteration on cell proliferation, adhesion, migration, invasion, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) process was determined through 5-Ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine, cell adhesion, wound healing and transwell assays as well as western blot analysis. The role of UBE2J1 in xenograft tumor in mice was determined. Luciferase reporter and chromatin immunoprecipitation assays were conducted to reveal the undering mechanism of UBE2J1. Our results indicated that UBE2J1 displayed high level in EC tissues and cells and predicted poor prognosis of EC patients. In addition, UBE2J1 depletion inhibited cell proliferation, adhesion, motion, EMT process invitro, and repressed tumor growth invivo. Rescue assays manifested that ethyl 2-amino-6-chloro-4-(1-cyano-2-ethoxy-2-oxoethyl)-4H-chromene-3-carboxylate treatment reversed the effects of UBE2J1 on PI3K/AKT pathway activation and malignant phenotypes of EC cells. Finally, zinc finger X-chromosomal protein (zfx), with high expression in EC tissues, was verified to activate UBE2J1 transcription by binding to UBE2J1 promoter. In conclusion, all facts signified that zfx-induced upregulation of UBE2J1 accelerated the progression of EC via regulating the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway, which suggested that UBE2J1 might be of great significance in probing into the underlying therapeutic strategies of EC.Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) are two clinically distinct classes of neurodegenerative disorders. Yet, they share a range of genetic, cellular, and molecular features. Hexanucleotide repeat expansions (HREs) in the C9orf72 gene and the accumulation of toxic protein aggregates in the nervous systems of the affected individuals are among such common features. Though the mechanisms by which HREs cause toxicity is not clear, the toxic gain of function due to transcribed HRE RNA or dipeptide repeat proteins (DPRs) produced by repeat-associated non-AUG translation together with a reduction in C9orf72 expression are proposed as the contributing factors for disease pathogenesis in ALS and FTD. In addition, several recent studies point toward alterations in protein homeostasis as one of the root causes of the disease pathogenesis. In this review, we discuss the effects of the C9orf72 HRE in the autophagy-lysosome pathway based on various recent findings. These effects are mainly related to the intensity, duration, frequency, and pattern of the ELF-EMF. Our intent was to characterize the effect of specific pulsed electromagnetic fields on the in vitro proliferation of MCF-7 adenocarcinoma and MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cell lines and one non-cancerous M10 breast epithelial cell line. The following four important parameters of ELF-EMF were examined frequencies (7.83 ± 0.3, 23.49 ± 0.3, and 39.15 ± 0.3 Hz), flux density (0.5 and 1 mT), exposure duration (12, 24, and 48 h), and the exposure methodology (continuous exposure versus switching exposure). The viability of MDA-MB-231 cells exposed to the optimized ELF-EMF pattern (7.83 ± 0.3 Hz, 1 mT, and 6 h switching exposure) was 40.1%. By contrast, the optimized ELF-EMF parameters that were most cytotoxic to breast cancer MDA-MB-231 cells were not damaging to normal M10 cells. In vitro studies also showed that exposure of MDA-MB-231 cells to the optimized ELF-EMF pattern promoted Ca2+ influx and resulted in apoptosis. Panobinostat clinical trial These data confirm that exposure to this specific ELF-EMF pattern can influence cellular processes and inhibit cancer cell growth. The specific ELF-EMF pattern determined in this study may provide a potential anti-cancer treatment in the future.A 34-year-old man presented with an 8-day history of swelling and ptosis affecting the right upper eyelid. An MRI scan showed right superior rectus enlargement. Histology of an incisional biopsy of the muscle demonstrated metastatic choriocarcinoma to the orbit, positive for pan-cytokeratins, beta-HCG and GATA3. Possible primary sites included testis. An ultrasound of the testes identified bilateral testicular masses, highly suspicious for primary testicular malignancy. A CT scan of the chest, abdomen and pelvis identified disseminated metastatic disease conferring a poor prognostic germ cell tumour. The overall interpretation was of disseminated testicular choriocarcinoma and the patient is currently undergoing intensive chemotherapy.
