Bedside Cot 6 Months Plus
Bedside sleepers let you keep your baby in the same room as you, without the risks of bed-sharing. They're a great choice for babies.
Models with adjustable height positions will fit perfectly on the majority of bed frames. Also, look for fabrics with breathable fabric that are easy to clean.
Safety
A bedside cot could be described as a bassinet which is connected to the bed's side to ensure safe cosleeping. You can use it to pull baby closer to you in the evening for feeding or comforting. it's a great option in the event of the need for a C-section. It differs from a Moses Basket or Cot in that it has high walls, so your baby isn't able to fall out. Some models come with a tilt feature that can help babies with colic and reflux. They're also a bit bigger than Moses baskets, which may make them easier to carry from room to room.
The NHS and The Lullaby Trust, a safe sleep charity, suggest that newborns be kept in a bassinet or cot in same room as their parents. They shouldn't be sleeping in your bed. Bed-sharing increases the risks of overheating or suffocation. Bedside cribs give you the best of both worlds by permitting your child to sleep close to you throughout the night, but in their own safe and separate sleeping space.
Check that the crib meets the most recent safety standards. It must be BS EN1130:2019. Also, make sure that there aren't any gaps or areas where your baby could get trapped. Also, look for a mattress that is sturdy and flat. A sagging or too soft mattress can increase your baby's risk of SIDS, so choose for a new one rather than second-hand.
Also, make sure you choose bedding that's fitted and free from any loose blankets or pillows. Duvets and pillows could suffocate your baby, and pillows can get stuck to their face. It's a good idea to use a fitted sheet instead but ensure it's fitted correctly.
The SnuzPod4 was rated highly by our MFM mum testers as a crib suitable for use in bed. It was shortlisted for the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards in the category of Best Cot, Moses Basket or Crib. It is securely attached to the bed, and it can be adjusted to ensure an ideal fit. It comes with a rocking function and can be adjusted to an inclined position to prevent reflux. It is a great option for those with narrow or small beds as it doesn't take up any space.
Design
The layout of a bedside crib is crucial as it will be the place where your child will spend most of their time. There are a variety of cribs available in a range of colors that can be matched to your decor. Some cribs have features like mesh windows to keep the baby visible or drop-down sides to allow easier access. Some cribs even have incline functions to help with reflux.
The majority of cribs can be raised and lowered to match the height of your bed, making it easier to get into and out of your bed at time of night. There are even some that are made to work as travel cots, which is great for those who are traveling or visiting relatives.
Leya is an MFM mother and home tester, found that the SnuzPod 4 was a great design for her bedroom. She also appreciated its compact fold that saved space. Leya also appreciated that one side of the crib can be adjusted to lower, letting her pick up her baby without needing to get out of bed. This is particularly helpful for those who have had C-sections or recovering from a Caesarean because it allows you to sleep close to your baby for longer.
Another mom who was happy using the SnuzPod 4 was Jasmine who said that it was easy to move from room to room - something she couldn't discover with other bedside cribs she tested. She did note that the handle was a bit stiff and it took quite a bit of effort to lift the crib.
The Tutti Bambini CoZee Air is another bedside crib which is easy to fold and move. It was shortlisted for the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards, in the Best Cot or Crib category. Its slim frame and neutral colour options can be incorporated into most bedrooms, although some of our home testers felt the bars were too close together, meaning they could get caught on clothing or toys for babies. The distance between bars should be no more than 6.5cm (2.5 inches) to ensure that your baby's head doesn't get caught in. This is a good crib for babies with reflux too because its ComfortAir breathability technology helps regulate their temperature.
Comfort
You will feel more secure if you can quickly reach your baby to feed them during the middle of the night. You can do this without having get up from bed with a crib at your bedside. These cribs make it easy to soothe babies to sleep. If you'd like to lay down with your baby, but don't like the idea of getting out of bed for every feeding moses baskets are an ideal choice.
Most cribs that are bedside can be affixed to the sides of your bed that allows you to see and access your baby easily. They typically feature a mesh-like window to allow you to check on your baby without disturbing them. They might also include a reflux setting to help with colic or reflux.
We're impressed with the number of features on this crib, particularly the ComfortAir breathable mattress that works to regulate your baby's temperature and maximize airflow. It's smaller than other cribs for bedside use that could be useful in areas with limited space. Our mum testers agree that this is still an excellent choice for those sleepless nights.
The cot is secured to the side of the bed with adjustable straps. This minimizes the chance of gaps in which your child can get trapped. It also comes with a sturdy and flat mattress that meets safety standards and encourages healthy sleeping practices.
One thing to bear in mind is that your baby can begin to climb out of the crib when they're tall enough to sit, usually around six months. This is why it's essential to put them in a cot or other sleeping arrangement once they outgrow the crib.
Another aspect to take into consideration is how light the crib is and if it's suitable for travelling. Some of our mothers are thrilled the fact that this crib can be disassembled to transport it however, others aren't able to put it together. It can be a challenge to clean, so you'll need to wipe it down regularly with an appropriate cleaning product and cloth.
Storage
A bedside cot that is 6 months old plus is a bassinet-style cot which is fixed to the bed's side for a safe and secure co-sleeping. They are great for feeding at night and calming babies back to sleep and enabling mums who have had an e-csection to keep their baby close.
It is essential to select cribs that meet current safety standards. Make sure that the bars are far enough apart to avoid your child's head from getting trapped. Also, make sure that any drop-down sides are secure and don't open unexpectedly. Also, stay clear of any stickers or transfers on the cot's surface as they can be a choking hazard.
travel bedside crib for a bedside cot is the Next2me Magic, which was shortlisted for the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards for Best Cot, Crib or Moses Basket. It's a good size and has plenty of storage space to store all the baby necessities. It's also compact and light enough to fit in its travel bag in case you need to move it from room to room. If you're looking for something a little easier, she suggests the Shnuggle Air beside crib.
