Although metabolic syndrome (MetS) in children and adolescents is a frequently discussed topic in the literature, uniform guidelines on its definition and treatment are still lacking. Insulin resistance, central obesity, dyslipidaemia, and hypertension are commonly considered the main components of MetS. The first recommended approach to all these pathological conditions in children and adolescents is lifestyle intervention (diet and physical exercise); however, in some selected cases, a pharmacological or surgical treatment might prove useful for the prevention of metabolic and cardiovascular complications. The aim of this review is to present the more recent evidence about the treatment of the major components of MetS in children and adolescents, focussing on the current recommendations concerning lifestyle changes, available drugs, and bariatric surgery.Introduction Capecitabine-temozolomide (CAPTEM) chemotherapy, alone or with concurrent peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT), has activity in advanced WHO grade 2 and grade 3 neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs). The objective of this study was to evaluate activity of the CAPTEM in patients with grade 2 and grade 3 NENs and identify prognostic factors Materials and methods A retrospective analysis of patients with metastatic grade 2 and grade 3 NENs, who were with baseline significant dual uptake on68Ga-DOTATATE/ 18F-FDG-PET-CT scan and treated with CAPTEM chemotherapy between January 2014 and December 2019 at Tata Memorial Hospital was conducted. The clinical variables and survival data were collected. Progression free survival (PFS) was estimated using Kaplan-Meier method. Results A total of 68 patients received the CAPTEM regimen, of whom 29 patients (43%) received CAPTEM alone and 39 patients (57%) received concurrent PRRT. The primary sites were pancreas in 32 (47%) and small intestine in 12 (18%) patiant baseline 18FDG expression.In December 2019, cases of acute respiratory illness of unknown origin were reported in Wuhan, China. Peritoneal dialysis is a renal replacement therapy (RRT) and is at least as effective as other extracorporeal therapy options, with significant cost-effective advantages. However, this strategy is rarely used for the management of acute kidney injury in severe lung disease. In this review, we explore PD as an RRT strategy that may be a key instrument in countries and hospitals with limited access to all RRTs.
Patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) are at high risk for acute kidney injury (AKI). Novel biomarkers that can predict AKI after AMI may facilitate immediate interventions. Recently, cystatin C, neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), and klotho have been established as novel AKI biomarkers. However, their effects have not been studied in patients presenting with AMI. In this study, we will measure the serum levels of these three biomarkers to find reliable biomarkers for early diagnosis of AKI in AMI patients.
This prospective observational cohort study was conducted between May 2016 and November 2017. A total of 285 consecutive patients with AMI were enrolled. The study was approved by the institutional review board of Peking University People's Hospital (No. 2016PHB 042-01). AKI was defined according to the KDIGO criteria in 2012. At admission, the clinical data of patients was collected and serum levels of several AKI biomarkers, including cystatin C, NGAL, and klotho, were measuvs. 0.734, 95% CI, 0.649-0.819, p <0.001). There was no difference between the discrimination performances of serum creatinine, NGAL, and klotho.
Elevated cystatin C levels are associated with AKI in patients with AMI. This study provides reliable evidence that cystatin C levels may be superior to serum creatinine for predicting AKI after AMI at admission.

Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) is an autosomal recessive disease predominantly caused by 21-hydroxylase deficiency. Clinical management in children includes glucocorticoid and often mineralocorticoid treatment alongside monitoring outcomes such as an-thro-po-metry, pubertal status, blood pressure, and biochemistry.
The objective of this pilot study was to present the use of 17-hydroxyprogesterone (17-OHP) and androgen metabolites expressed as standard deviation (SD) scores rather than actual concentrations as a tool in the management of children with CAH as well as in research settings.
The study was a retrospective, longitudinal study that took place in a single, tertiary center and included 38 children and adolescents aged 3-18 years with CAH due to 21-hydroxylase deficiency. Biochemical measurements of 17-OHP, androstenedione, dehydroepiandrosterone-sulphate (DHEAS), and testosterone using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry were expressed as SD scores, and outcomes such as genotype,nted as a unifying tool that simplifies research and, in the future, also optimal management of treatment.
Cognitive impairment induced by cerebral infarction has become a devastating health problem. Enpp-1-IN-1 chemical structure are required to evaluate the potential cognitive decline after cerebral infarction in clinic. Serum uric acid (UA) and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) are two factors reported to correlate with cognitive impairment. However, the understanding on serum UA and hs-CRP with cognitive dysfunction remains unclear.
Serum UA and hs-CRP were evaluated in patients with cerebral infarction (n = 197) using single factor analysis and multivariate logistic regression analysis. Clinical and pathological characteristics were analyzed by logistic regression, respectively, and the results demonstrated the correlation between the pathological characteristics and the cognitive impairment post cerebral infarction. Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) was used to evaluate the patients' cognitive function, and patients with a MoCA score <26 were recognized as with cognitive impairment.
Clinical characteristics related to cognitive impairment, including age, gender, blood pressure, serum UA, and hs-CRP were collected and analyzed.
