Ithocritus ruber (Hope, 1839), the type species of the genus Ithocritus Lacordaire, 1872 is reinvestigated, and a partially sympatric species, Ithocritus similis Bi Lin, sp. nov. (, Xiāng sì duǎn bǐng tiān niú), is described. The genus Falsimalmus Breuning, 1956 is newly recorded from China, based on the discovery of Falsimalmus niger Breuning, 1956 from Yunnan. New localities, illustrations of habitus, endophallic structure and major diagnostic features for all involved taxa are provided.The morphologies of the three freshwater stentorid ciliates in Korea, Stentor coeruleus (Pallas, 1766); Stentor muelleri Ehrenberg, 1831, and Stentor tartari Murthy Bai, 1974, were investigated based on live observations and protargol impregnation. The Korean population of S. tartari exhibits the following characteristics body size 200-355 × 85-135 µm in vivo, 62-106 somatic kineties, 8-13 peristomial kineties, 110-180 adoral membranelles, mostly two macronuclear nodules and 5-18 micronuclei, reddish and colorless cortical granules and the presence of symbiotic algae. We identified S. tartari based on unique characteristics compared to close congeners. Korean populations of S. coeruleus and S. muelleri are congruent with previously described populations in most aspects of their morphologies. Here, for the first time, we report molecular gene sequence information for S. tartari. Small subunit (SSU) rRNA gene sequence-based phylogeny indicates that S. tartari, which has multiple macronuclei, forms a monophyletic group with other Stentor species having a single macronucleus. Our findings based on morphology and SSU rRNA gene sequence information corroborate the hypothesis that the elongated macronucleus evolved from the compact single or multi macronucleus state.The dobsonfly genus Protohermes van der Weele, 1907 is recorded from Pakistan for the first time. Two species, i.e. Protohermes motuoensis Liu Yang, 2006 and Protohermes walkeri Navás, 1929 are herein re-described based on new materials from Pakistan.Osteological characters supporting monophyly and identification of extant Leiognathidae are reviewed. Ten osteological synapomorphies support monophyly of the Leiognathidae, involving modification of the ribs, gill arches, palatoquadrate, median fins and branchiostegals. Fourteen additional characters are noted that nest the Leiognathidae within the Acanthuriformes (sensu Gill Leis). Nine further characters are noted as useful for identification of leiognathids, though each occurs more widely among acanthuriforms and other fishes. Three fossil genera that have been assigned to the Leiognathidae are briefly reviewed for the various leiognathid characters. Only one fossil genus, †Euleiognathus Yabumoto Uyeno, appears correctly placed in the family.The suckermouth armored catfish genus Panaque contains seven valid species, including the Royal Pleco, Panaque nigrolineatus, which has long been popular as an ornamental aquarium fish and was originally described from the Apure River basin in Venezuela. We examine a phenotypically distinct population of P. nigrolineatus from the Guaviare River in southern Colombia at the southwesternmost corner of the Orinoco River basin. In contrast to typically boldly striped populations from closer to the type locality of P. nigrolineatus, the Guaviare River basin population is usually boldly spotted, earning them the common name Watermelon Pleco in the aquarium fish trade. Because of the commercial popularity of this distinctive color morph, it is heavily exploited for export to the global ornamental fish trade. We find that the Guaviare River P. nigrolineatus laurafabianae is not only distinct geographically and in color pattern, but is also morphometrically diagnosable from P. nigrolineatus individuals from outside the Guaviare River basin. this website However, relatively subtle phenotypic differences, invariance in nuclear DNA markers, less then 0.5% divergence in mitochondrial DNA markers 16S, cytb, and ND2, and the non-monophyly of Guaviare River populations prevent us from robustly inferring species-level distinctiveness of the Watermelon Pleco. We therefore propose to recognize this population as a distinct subspecies.We describe a new species of Cyrtodactylus from Guwahati city in the state of Assam, India and provide additional data on the recently described Cyrtodactylus guwahatiensis. Cyrtodactylus urbanus sp. nov. falls in the newly defined khasiensis group within the Indo-Burma clade of Cyrtodactylus and is the poorly supported sister taxon to Cyrtodactylus khasiensis. The new species differs from other members of the khasiensis group in mitochondrial sequence data (12.5-17.1 % uncorrected pairwise ND2 sequence divergence) as well as aspects of morphology including the number and arrangement of precloacal pores in males, the number of mid-ventral scales and paravertebral tubercles, and colour pattern. This is the second Cyrtodactylus endemic to the Guwahati region, the fourth from Assam and the twelfth from Northeast India.Three new species of ghost moth, Oxycanus ephemerous sp. nov., O. flavoplumosus sp. nov., and O. petalous sp. nov. are described from South Australia, New South Wales, and south-west Western Australia, respectively. We illustrate these species and compare morphological and molecular (mtDNA COI gene) characters with similar Oxycanus Walker, 1856 species from Australia. Comparative images of Oxycanus subvaria (Walker, 1856), O. byrsa (Pfitzner, 1933), and O. determinata (Walker, 1856) are figured. The type material of the three new species are held in the Australian National Insect Collection, Canberra, the Western Australian Museum, Perth, and in the South Australian Museum, Adelaide. The type specimens of Oxycanus hildae Tindale, 1964 syn. n. were also examined and the taxon is here considered synonymous with O. subvaria. Concerns are raised about the conservation status of all three new species due to few or localised distribution records.Described from Odessa and North Caucasus, the Southern Barbed-wire Bush-cricket, Onconotus servillei Fischer von Waldheim (1846) has a distribution restricted to steppe habitats in Eastern Europe, European Russia up to Western Siberia (Fig. 1A) (Storozhenko 1994; Cigliano et al. 2019).
