Cases and controls were consecutively enrolled among subjects admitted to four electromyography labs. UNE diagnosis was made on clinical and neurographic findings. The control group included all other subjects without signs/symptoms of ulnar neuropathy and with normal ulnar nerve neurography. Anthropometric measurements included weight, height, waist, hip circumferences, and external measures of elbow using a caliper. The participants filled in a self-administered questionnaire on personal characteristics, lifestyle factors, and medical history. We estimated odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) by fitting unconditional logistic regression models adjusted by center and education level. We enrolled 220 cases (males 61.8%; mean age 51.7 years) and 460 controls (47.4% males; mean age 47.8 years). At multivariable analysis, UNE was associated to male gender (OR = 2.4, 95%CI = 1.6-3.7), smoking habits (>25 pack-years (OR = 2.3, 95%CI = 1.3-4.1), body mass index (OR = 1.05, 95%CI 1.01-1.10), polyneuropathies (OR = 4.1, 95%CI 1.5-11.5), and leaning with flexed elbow on a table/desk (OR = 1.5, 95%CI 1.0-2.2). Cubital groove width (CGW) turned out to be negatively associated with UNE (OR = 0.80, 95%CI = 0.74-0.85). Our study suggests that some personal factors especially anthropometric measures of the elbow may play a role in UNE pathogenesis as the measures of wrist in CTS. We demonstrated that for each millimeter of smaller CGW the risk of idiopathic UNE increases of 25%.Depression is a mental disorder characterized by persistent unhappiness, lack of interest, with cognitive and sleep disorders. Jiaotaiwan is a traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of insomnia and depressive-like symptoms. In this study, the major chemical components in Jiaotaiwan were qualitatively analyzed using ultra high performance liquid chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry, and a model of depression in rats was subsequently established with chronic unpredictable mild stress followed by Jiaotaiwan intervention. Next, the metabolic profile of rat serum samples was analyzed using nontargeted metabolomics, wherein changes in the metabolites in serum samples before and after Jiaotaiwan administration were measured by multiple statistical approaches. Principal component analysis and partial least squares discriminant analysis indicated that the Jiaotaiwan treatment improved the metabolic phenotype depression. Moreover, the heatmap analysis identified the most important ten biomarkers involved in depression. According to the pathway analysis, the therapeutic effect of Jiaotaiwan on depression may involve the regulation of amino acid metabolism, glycerophospholipid metabolism, and energy metabolism. These findings help us understand the pathogenesis of depression in-depth, and discover targets for clinical diagnosis and treatment. And it also lays a foundation for the use of Jiaotaiwan as an antidepressant agent.This study aims to evaluate the efficacy and side effects of low dose cyclophosphamide chemotherapy plus meloxicam as an adjuvant treatment, compared with high dose doxorubicin or surgery alone in cats with mammary carcinoma. Medical records of 228 female cats treated for mammary carcinoma between 2008 and 2018, were reviewed in eight veterinary institutions. Only cats with complete tumour staging and radical mastectomy were included in the study. One hundred and thirty-seven cats were divided into three treatment groups group 1 (n = 80) cats treated with surgery, group 2 (n = 34) cats that had surgery and adjuvant treatment with doxorubicin, and group 3 (n = 23) cats with surgery and adjuvant treatment with low dose metronomic cyclophosphamide and meloxicam. The study endpoints were disease free interval (DFI) and overall survival (OS). Toxicity was evaluated according to the VCOG-CTCAE criteria. The median DFI was 270, 226 and 372 days in groups 1, 2 and 3, respectively. The median OS was 338 (group 1), 421 (group 2) and 430 (group 3) days. The differences between groups were not significant (DFI P = .280 and OS P = .186). Toxicity was observed in 52.9% (n = 18) of cats in group 2 and 39.1% (n = 9) of cats in group 3, with mild to moderate intensity. Differences were not significant (P = .306). In conclusion, adjuvant chemotherapy treatment did not improve survival and the overall benefit remains unproven. Randomized prospective trials are necessary to clarify the effectiveness of adjuvant chemotherapy treatment for feline mammary carcinomas.
