Cardiovascular magnetic resonance within recovering COVID-19 individuals. Attribute tracking and maps analysis to detect persistent myocardial engagement.
No cardiac arrhythmias were observed. Conclusion We observed no renal or hepatic toxicity, nor cardiac arrythmias during azithromycin use in CF patients for a mean study duration of more than 5 years. One should be aware of possible QTc-interval prolongation, in particular in patients using other QTc-interval prolonging medication.Introduction Chronic rhinitis is defined as nasal inflammation with the presence of minimum two symptoms such as nasal obstruction, rhinorrhea, sneezing and/or itching one hour daily for a minimum of 12 weeks/year. According their etiology, four groups of rhinitis are described allergic, infectious, non-allergic non-infectious and mixed.Chronic rhinitis is frequently associated with asthma, shares similar mechanisms of the pathogenesis and has a negative impact of its outcomes sustaining the concept of unified airways disease.Areas covered The present review summarizes the complex relationship between chronic rhinitis and asthma on the basis of recent epidemiological data, clinical characteristics, diagnosis and therapeutic management. All four groups are discussed with the impact of their specific treatment on asthma outcomes. Some medications are common for chronic rhinitis and asthma while others are more specific but able to treat the associated comorbidity.Expert opinion The systematic assessment of chronic rhinitis in patients with asthma and its specific treatment improves both disease outcomes. Conversely, several therapies of asthma demonstrated beneficial effects on chronic rhinitis. Treating both diseases at the same time by only one medication is an interesting option to explore in the future in order to limit drugs administration, related costs and side effects.Introduction Although in-person hospitalist presence, increasingly staffed by dedicated nocturnists, has become the norm overnight in the hospital, the scope of nocturnist practice and typical workload has not been defined. This study examines the clinical responsibilities and patient safety perceptions of hospitalists who work night shifts in the United States. Methods In the fall of 2019, a cross-sectional, web-based survey was administered to physician and nurse practitioner/physician assistant (NP/PA) hospitalists who work night shifts. The questionnaire assessed night staffing structure, typical responsibilities, patient volume, perceptions of safety overnight, as well as demographic information. The survey was posted on the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) Hospital Medicine Exchange (HMX) Online Discussion Forum. Additionally, the survey was distributed by 'snowball method' by respondents to other night hospitalists. Responses were collected anonymously. Results Of the 167 respondents, 157 reported working and optimize patient safety.
Fosfomycin is a wide spectrum bactericidal antibiotic with a unique mode of action, low toxicity and good penetration in tissues with deep seated infections, including bone and joint infections.

Data were extracted from 19 published articles. 365 patients, with broad age range, received intravenous fosfomycin for the treatment of bone and joint infections (including arthritis, acute and chronic osteomyelitis, discitis, periprosthetic joint infection). Fosfomycin was given as part of a combination antimicrobial therapy in the majority of patients (93.7%). The dosage of fosfomycin ranged from 4 g/day (in one case) to 24 g/day. The dosage of fosfomycin, in some cases, mostly pediatric, was calculated based on body weight, ranging from 50 mg/kg/day to 250 mg/kg/day. The duration of fosfomycin treatment ranged from a couple of days up to three months. The most common isolated pathogen was
(38.9%). Three hundred patients (82.2%) were successfully treated. Fosfomycin was well tolerated, as few patients developed mild adverse events, mostly gastrointestinal discomfort, hypernatremia, skin rash and neutropenia.

The available data suggests that intravenous fosfomycin may be beneficial for the treatment of patients with bone and joint infections, especially when used as part of a combination antibiotic regimen.

A cross-sectional analysis described the prevalence of CH-treated subjects repeated annually in 2013-2017. A longitudinal analysis of patients selected in 2013-2015 and followed for 2 years provided the prescription patterns. Results The annual prevalence of CH-treated patients increased from 6.4×100,000 adults in 2013 to 6.7 in 2017. In 2013-2015, 570 patients (80.7% M; mean age 46) treated for CH were found. In 50.4%, the identifying CH treatment was sumatriptan/subcutaneous+verapamil. TPEN During follow-up, >1/3 changed the preventive drug and interruption was the most frequent modification, although acute treatments were still prescribed. The mean annual cost/patient ranged from €2,956 to €2,267; pharmaceuticals expenditure represented the 56.4% and 57.3%, respectively. Conclusions This study showed an important unmet need among CH patients, carrying a high economic burden that should be considered in the evaluation of the impact of incoming therapies (e.g. Calcitonin-Gene-Related-Peptide antibodies).
Social isolation and loneliness are interrelated but independent constructs that threaten healthy aging and well-being and are thought to be associated with hearing loss. Our aim was to review the empirical studies that have examined the association between hearing loss and social isolation and/or loneliness to highlight future research needs.

Scoping review.

Three electronic databases were searched combining key terms of "hearing loss", "hearing impairment" and "deaf*" with "social isolation" or "loneliness", yielding an initial result of 939 articles. After removing duplicate articles, abstract screening and full-text review, 57 original articles met our inclusion criteria.

Studies were diverse in terms of methodology with the most common type of study being studies that have explored the relationship between hearing loss and social isolation/loneliness from large population-based datasets. Only eight studies were intervention studies and of these, only one specifically explored the outcomes of hearing aids (HAs) on social isolation/loneliness.
