This study examined the environmental impacts and energy consumption of three solid digestate treatment scenarios to quantify their impacts on the entire food waste (FW)-based biogas system (1) incineration; (2) composting, and; (3) landfill. The results showed that composting had the largest net energy consumption, but least total environmental impact of 57.3 kWh and 8.75 E-03, respectively, whereas landfill showed the opposite pattern. Moreover, there were significant differences (p less then 0.05) and relatively high contributions between the digestate treatment subunits among the three scenarios. The most significant contributions of digestate subunits in methods 1-3 to the 100-year global warming potential (GWP100) were 70.5%, 52.5%, and 103.4%, respectively. The results indicated that solid digestate treatment had a significant impact, and reasonable disposal of solid digestate could significantly reduce the environmental impacts and energy consumption of the entire FW-based biogas system.Anammox granular sludge bed technology has been widely applied for its attractive advantages. Efficient mass transfer is an important factor for the anammox granules to play their role. In this study, steady-state anammox granules were used to investigate the correlation between the permeability and granule size with the granule pore as pivot. The results of size distribution showed that the anammox granules could be divided into 6 groups 200-500 µm (I), 500-1000 µm (II), 1000-1500 µm (III), 1500-2000 µm (IV), 2000-3000 µm (V) and ≥3000 µm (VI). The results of settling experiment demonstrated that the permeability of anammox granules was negatively correlated with the granule size. The fluid collection efficiency declined from 39.4% to 9.3% for granule group I to III, and further to 0 for granule group IV to VI (granule size was larger than 1.5 mm). The observation of micro-CT revealed that the pore structure of anammox granules varied significantly with the increase of granule size, forming a denser surface layer and sparser interior. The chemical analysis and microscopic observation indicated that the pore plugging of surface layer by cell proliferation and EPS secretion was the main cause for the permeability deterioration. The findings of this study will help to understand the mass transfer of anammox granules and promote the development of anammox processes.
Perioperative chemotherapy improves overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) compared with surgery alone in patients with resectable gastric adenocarcinoma (GA) or gastro-oesophageal junction adenocarcinoma (GEJA). The addition of trastuzumab to chemotherapy improves outcomes in patients with HER2-positive advanced gastric cancer (GC), and we aimed to explore its role in the perioperative setting.

This Spanish, multicentre, open-label phase II trial evaluated the efficacy and toxicity of perioperative capecitabine, oxaliplatin and trastuzumab (XELOX-T) in patients with HER2-positive resectable GA or GEJA. The primary end-point was 18-months DFS; and secondary end-points included pathological complete response (pCR) rate, R0 resection rate, OS and toxicity (NCT01130337).

Thirty-six patients were included. After three cycles of preoperative treatment, 14 patients (38% of the intention-to-treat population) had partial response and 18 (50%) had stable disease. Surgery was performed in 31 patients 28 (90%) had R0 resection, three (9.6%) had a pCR and three (9.6%) died due to surgical complications. A total of 24 patients received post-operative XELOX-T, 22 of whom completed trastuzumab maintenance. Main grade III/IV toxicities included diarrhoea (33%), nausea and vomiting (8%). After a median follow-up of 24.1 months, 18-month DFS was 71% (95% confidence interval [CI], 53-83%); and an update after 102 months of follow-up showed a median OS of 79.9 months and a 60-month OS of 58% (95% CI, 40-73%).

These data suggest that perioperative XELOX-T in patients with HER2-positive GA and GEJA is feasible and active. Further investigation in randomised studies is warranted.

Macroreentrant atrial tachyarrhythmias (MRATs) can be caused by different reentrant circuits. The treatment for each MRAT type may require ablation at different sites, either at the right or left atria. Unfortunately, the reentrant circuit that drives the arrhythmia cannot be ascertained previous to the electrophysiological intervention.

A noninvasive approach based on the comparison of atrial vectorcardiogram (VCG) loops is proposed. An archetype for each group was created, which served as a reference to measure the similarity between loops. Methods were tested in a variety of simulations and real data obtained from the most common right (peritricuspid) and left (perimitral) macroreentrant circuits, each divided into clockwise and counterclockwise subgroups. Adenosine was administered to patients to induce transient AV block, allowing the recording of the atrial signal without the interference of ventricular signals. From the vectorcardiogram, we measured intrapatient loop consistence, similarity of the e that the presented methodology allows us to differentiate between the most common forms of right and left MRATs and predict the existence and location of a slow conduction zone. SD-208 chemical structure This approach may be useful in planning ablation procedures in advance.
Multilevel statistical models represent the existence of hierarchies or clustering within populations of subjects (or shapes in this work). This is a distinct advantage over single-level methods that do not. Multilevel partial-least squares regression (mPLSR) is used here to study facial shape changes with age during adolescence in Welsh and Finnish samples comprising males and females.

3D facial images were obtained for Welsh and Finnish male and female subjects at multiple ages from 12 to 17 years old. 1000 3D points were defined regularly for each shape by using "meshmonk" software. A three-level model was used here, including level 1 (sex/ethnicity); level 2, all "subject" variations excluding sex, ethnicity, and age; and level 3, age. The mathematical formalism of mPLSR is given in an Appendix.

Differences in facial shape between the ages of 12 and 17 predicted by mPLSR agree well with previous results of multilevel principal components analysis (mPCA); buccal fat is reduced with increasing age and features such as the nose, brow, and chin become larger and more distinct.
