Notes - notes.io

Take this class if you have to, but there might be other psych classes that offer more interesting material. Otherwise, it is not a hard class, despite the weekly papers and quizzes.
Midterm and final were both really easy and they will be for you too if you pay attention in class and do the readings. Solid SEN
Easier Psych Department
It is kind of like an intro psych class with the amount of information that you have to learn but it is an interesting class. I would take it as a 5th and pdf but if you are required to take it don't worry, just focus in on the study guide.
I really enjoyed this class. I was shocked to see the negative reviews, and maybe something has changed dramatically over the past few semesters, but this class isn't bad at all! Lectures are interesting and the exams are super fair and manageable.
Only take the course if you have to. It is interesting content but there is a lot of it! Understand experiments in precept readings, and take thorough notes in lecture to make sure you catch all the important points of each topic.
not the easiest and not the hardest. low work during the year but study VERY hard for the midterm and it will benefit you
It's not that hard of a course, easy SEN.
If you are not a psychology student, I would not recommend taking this course.
Ton of work - weekly quizzes and paper reviews although class itself is quite easy.
exams are very difficult even if you study. try to get emma as your preceptor, she is awesome
This class is pretty manageable, as the only assignments are weekly papers (1 page criticizing research papers), a midterm, and a final. It can be hard to understand the lecture sometimes, but Dr. Taylor is pretty helpful during office hours, and so are the preceptors. As long as you read the textbook and keep up with notes, you will be fine!
Pay attention in lecture and study each week for the precept quizzes.
GET CARLOS AS YOUR PRECEPTOR!!!! Attend and take notes at lectures, engage in the weekly readings, and response papers, and complete/review the study guide before the midterm and the final, and you will be fine.
Take this course because you have to. The exams are very fair and the precept quizzes require a bit of studying but it's fine. I would recommend this class.
The lectures can be a bit tough to follow at times, but Professor Taylor is really sweet and incredibly accommodating. He brought cookies to our final exam, and changed the weighing of the midterm and final to alleviate stress. His office hours and study reviews were very helpful. This course is not that much work, and a lot of the topics are quite interesting.
I actually thought this class was super interesting, not boring at all. Professor Taylor is a great lecturer!!!! Although, some topics are a little abstract and hard to grasp. GET CARLOS AS A PRECEPTOR he is a king, he is so sweet, and the precepts were super helpful in understanding the weekly articles. The weekly quizzes were fine and you kind of get desensitized to them. HOWEVER, the other preceptor Emma... why did she have to come for my midterm grade like that???? Like girl please, she would be taking 10 points off here and 10 points off there like it was NOTHING. and with no explanation either like excuse me. Tbh everyone Ik who got graded by Carlos did miles better. For context, they had Emma grade the exams for students in Carlos' precept and vice versa. Idk why they didn't just have one preceptor grade odd pages and the there grade even pages or something like that, so they would both be grading everyone's exams. I should've gone to Jordan and asked for points back, but this semester was busy for me, so I just accepted my fate instead, which I now regret. The exams are honestly pretty fair, and overall I really did enjoy the class, except for the way my midterm (and probably my final too byeee) was graded (they are mostly short answer exams, so the grading is subjective).
Professor Taylor is excellent! Super knowledgable and caring. He does hours-long review sessions before exams, open to answer any questions, bought us cookies on the day of finals. I loved this class and his lecture style
Make sure you study for the weekly quizzes, they might be more difficult than you expect. Prof. Taylor's study guides and review sessions were helpful for the exams.
It's a fine pdf, easy a if you put in effort to all the assignments. Not super interesting, but not dull either.
This course was fun and interesting. Dr. Taylor is an amazing lecturer and a kind and accessible professor. I highly recommend taking any course he teaches and any precept Preceptor Emma Diethorn teaches.
Take this course! It is so good!
Go to lecture and you will be fine. No need to do textbook readings. Very easy psych departmental for psych majors especially. Good sen as well
Come to lecture and take good notes.
Not really sure why this class has gotten just average reviews in the past...but as a PSY major, this is one of the best of the required courses. Exams and assignments are all fair, material is interesting, and lectures by Professor Taylor are very engaging. I honestly recommend this class to anyone outside of the department who may be interested as well.
needed as a psych major but jordan is a great professor and it's a very interesting class because you cover basically all of the other psych courses at princeton with a cognitive spin on it - exams weren't too difficult but definitely pay attention in lecture
Do not take this course unless you have to. If you are interested in taking a lower level psychology course, take PSY 254, it is a much more interesting and better taught class. If you have to take this class for a requirement, know that the exams are sneaky harder than you'd think because the lectures are so bad that you don't actually learn anything.
Not the most fun class ever. Professor taylor is really kind but the material is kind of boring and not always delivered in the best way.
don't take this class even unless you're really interested in cognitive psychology. lectures were difficult to follow and you need to do a lot of digging outside of class to get the structure of the content
Jordan is a great dude. You may not be interested in all of the material, but you'll definitely perk up to some of the things you learn, and will always remember little nuggets of material. Show up to lecture, show up to precepts, don't read the textbook, but do read for precept. There are weekly precept quizzes on what you learned in lecture that week, along with weekly paper reflections on a related academic paper. You talk about the academic paper in precept. Also, the exams are unique because you only have to answer some of the questions (ex- 6 out of 10 questions).
Despite what felt like overwhelmingly negative reviews when I was choosing to take this class, I enjoyed it overall despite only having taken AP Psychology before this and being a freshman prospective SPIA/anthro major. I think it's built for you to succeed if you do the textbook reading, make quizlets on the content as the weeks go on, and practice answering the study guide yourself that he gives for the midterm and final. The midterm and final questions are far easier than the weekly precept quizzes, but fortunately the former counts for 60% of your grade. This is a class that people do very well in grade-wise, so that shouldn't be a concern coming into the course if you're fine with memorization. The lectures were interactive and important to go to since the course doesn't always fully line up with the textbook, but I've heard that this has improved a lot over the years, and it probably will continue to improve. Besides a few structuring of the course hiccups and the confusing precept quiz questions, I think the course was well-presented.
I found this class boring but that may just be me because I'm not interested in cog psych and had to take it for the departmental.
Its probably a good idea to attend lectures, the proffer's breakdown makes it very easy to understand compared to trying to decipher the notes on your own
I found it helpful to take notes directly on the lecture slides on my iPad as opposed to using Google Docs
Very not science heavy SEN. Information was interesting
I am psych senior. I would only take this course if it is your pre-requesite for psych. I would recommend higher level psych courses instead as they would touch on topics of this course but explain it in more accessible ways that can help one delve deeper in their topic of interests. If you are interested in cognitive psych but have no clear idea about what aspects of cognitive psych you are interested I would also recommend this course as a launch pad for your future academic endeavors. Overall, it is a bit complex for an intro course and I would recommend higher psych courses if you are not a psych major interested in psych courses for fun. If you are a potential psych major I think this course is on the harder side of the psych course spectrum, so you all should be fine going forward as part of the major.
I took this as a humanities major looking for a SEN, and this wasn't too bad. Jordan is a very personable and gracious professor who sets you up to succeed (drops lowest quiz, lowest journal paper, weighs whichever exam you did better on much higher, gives a freebie on the exam, gave us 5/5 on last quiz), so if you're looking to PDF this course, I think its doable with minimum effort. Precepts were also very easy with Carlos, just make sure you study for the quizzes. You kind of have to go to lecture because he makes the slides intentionally vague to make sure you attend. However, I thought this course was VERY boring, and the exams had questions that don't really test your knowledge as much as they ask you to recreate some obscure studies If you're looking for an SEN, I recommend to keep looking as their are others that seem much more interesting than this, but it isn't a bad course overall.
