The Best Bedside Cots
A bedside cot is a bassinet-style crib that is attached to your bed, making it safe for babies to sleep right next to you. This is an ideal option if you want your little one to be near to feed them without fuss in the beginning stages.
The HALO BassiNest Essentia was crowned our top bedside cot test, offering an adjustable sleeping surface that can be swiveled and sidewalls that slide down without difficulty. This makes it easy to reach over for comfort and ease them to sleep.
Safety
A bedside cot is an ideal solution for new parents who wish to keep their infant close but not sacrifice security. This type of cot is attached to the side of your mattress. It has a moveable end that you can reach out to your baby. You can use a bedside crib to night feed your baby or to soothe them to sleep. It's also a great option for mums who have had a C-section. Bedside cots can be found in many different designs and sizes, and some have storage. When shopping for an upholstered cot for your bedside make sure you check the safety features.
The Boori Oasis Oval Cot is an elegant cot that is easy to build and compact. Its oval shape is perfect for babies who roll around in their sleep. They won't end up in a corner like they would with a rectangular cot. It is also able to fit into doors with standard frames, which is a big benefit for parents with limited space.
Another great option is the La Redoute Willox Adjustable Cot Bed. The cot comes with a variety of features that make parenting easier and also looks beautiful. Its adjustable sides let it grow with your child and then transform into a toddler's bed once the time comes. It's also light, so it's easy to move around the home.
A crib with a high mesh side is a great feature to put on a bedside crib. This will stop your child from falling. It should be securely anchored to your bed without gaps or loose parts. Ask a professional if you are not confident in installing a crib on your bed.
Co-sleeping is not recommended until your baby is at least six months old age. Official advice from The Lullaby Trust and the NHS is that infants should not be sleeping in your bed due to the risk of suffocation or overheating. If you are forced to share a bed with your child, a crib by the bedside is the ideal option.
Size
A bedside cot, also known as the bassinet, is a cot that attaches to the sides of your mattress. It comes with a side that can be lifted up or lowered to allow you to reach your baby easily without having to leave the bed. These are the preferred choice of famous moms like Stacey Solomon, Binky Felstead and Lucy Mecklenburgh. They're ideal for mothers who be unable to move after having a C-section.
The Maxi-Cosi Lora is our top choice. It has an option to peek behind that allows you to see your child on the bottom of the mattress. It also adjusts to the mattress's height, although some mothers have complained about the difficulty of moving it up and down. It's also one of our lightest options and can be folded into a suitcase size. This makes it perfect for travel with your baby.
Another option is the Slumber Carbon 3-in-1, which can be used as an a portable cot, bassinet and playpen. bedside crib travel won our 2021 Mother&Baby Awards gold medal in the best Cot Crib, Moses Basket category. It has a storage shelf and is easy to lift into and out of a car. Some mothers have were concerned that it was too long and wide for tight spaces, particularly when used as a bedside sleeper.
Design
The best cribs for your bed will be sleek, stylish and modern. Some cribs feature innovative designs like a peek-a-boo flap on the sides that allow you to observe your baby without disturbing him. Other features, like adjustable heights are helpful when your spouse is having difficulties getting out of bed. Some sleepers are also suitable as a bassinet, cot, or for babies who have reflux. If you're looking for something a bit more traditional, there are plenty of options as well.
Some of our favorites are the CoZee Air from Tutti Bambini that won bronze in the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards ' Best Cot Crib, Moses Basket category, and the Next2me Magic was shortlisted in that same category. Both can be adjusted in height and can be used as a travel cot while away from home. They are also lightweight and easy to move around.
Other mums like the Lua Bedside Sleeper that comes with a changing mat and storage space as well as an adjustable bassinet that folds into a mini cot as well as a storage bag. Jasmine says it's the ideal size for babies and is more substantial than Moses baskets that can feel thin or flimsy.
Another option is an alternative is the iCandy Cocoon, which can be used as a Moses basket, cot, or travel cot. It features an adjustable changing table that pops up as well as a shelf to store toys and books, as well as an adjustable mesh side that lets you see your baby. It's not light one, but it's simple to move and looks sleek in any bedroom.
Cost
If you're in the market for a bedside sleeper, bassinet or crib, cost will be a factor. Some of the most popular models are expensive however there are plenty of lower-cost alternatives that won't cost a fortune. There are a variety of styles and colors to match your nursery decor.
The best bedside cribs are adjustable and can be elevated to the level of your mattress. Some also have an incline position that is great for babies with reflux. They can also be folded away when not in use and some models come with a travel bag included which is perfect for mothers who are often out and about or have guests staying in.
Bedside cots are usually a little bigger than Moses baskets, but smaller than cribs. Some can be moved from one place to another, while others have a side which can be adjusted so that you can lift your baby towards you to feed them or calm him. Some have a built in rocker that can help soothe your baby to sleep.
The Clair de Lune is a mid-priced model that was nominated in the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards Best Cot, Crib or Moses Basket category. It's sleek and stylish however it's a bit larger than other models. It's not suitable for smaller spaces. It's also quite heavy at more than 10kg, and will require lots of maneuvering to get it into position. Emily from Clair de Lune also notes that it's not as easy to get into and out of as other sleepers for bed, due to the sides don't flex much and you have to bend to scoop your baby up.
