Inpatients with preexisting allergies, decreased evaluated glomerular filtration rate, and increased high sensitivity C reactive protein or neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio prior to CAG had a higher probability of AU (odds ratio >1, P less then 0.05 for all variables). All AU inpatients complained of pruritus, and mild itching predominated. AU dissipated in several days under treatment of ebastine or levocetirizine 10 mg/daily, but ebastine showed superiority. Conclusions ICM-induced AU is not uncommon in non-emergent CAG inpatients with prophylactic methylprednisolone. Preexisting allergies, renal dysfunction, and mild inflammation are high-risk factors, and antihistamine monotherapy is a favorable candidate for ICM-related AU.Background Aerosol-producing dental procedures are of concern in the spread of infections, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Periodontal prophylaxis is the most common aerosol-producing procedure conducted in dental practice globally. During COVID-19, many national and international organizations advocated the use of pre-procedural mouth rinsing to prevent the spread of infections from aerosol-generating procedures in the dental setting; however, many questioned the scientific basis for such recommendations. Objective This systematic review aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of pre-procedural rinsing when preforming periodontal prophylaxis in reducing aerosol contamination in the dental setting. Methods A comprehensive standardized search strategy was employed, informed by a defined PICO question across four electronic databases. Inobrodib research buy The review of the literature was conducted using the PRISMA framework. Agreement between assessors was determined throughout. Synthesis of study characteristics and key outconcerns over the risk of bias in most studies (76.2%); 19.0% had a high risk of bias and 4.8% were of low risk of bias. Conclusion There is substantial evidence to support pre-procedural mouth rinsing, such as with chlorohexidine, to effectively reduce aerosol contamination when performing periodontal prophylaxis compared to mouth rinsing with water or not rinsing. The complexity of COVID-19 and variations in control measures and containment efforts in different countries have caused difficulties in the prediction and modeling of the COVID-19 pandemic. We attempted to predict the scale of the latter half of the pandemic based on real data using the ratio between the early and latter halves from countries where the pandemic is largely over. We collected daily pandemic data from China, South Korea, and Switzerland and subtracted the ratio of pandemic days before and after the disease apex day of COVID-19. We obtained the ratio of pandemic data and created multiple regression models for the relationship between before and after the apex day. We then tested our models using data from the first wave of the disease from 14 countries in Europe and the US. We then tested the models using data from these countries from the entire pandemic up to March 30, 2021. Results indicate that the actual number of cases from these countries during the first wave mostly fall in the predicted ranges of liniar regression, excepting Spain and Russia. Similarly, the actual deaths in these countries mostly fall into the range of predicted data. Using the accumulated data up to the day of apex and total accumulated data up to March 30, 2021, the data of case numbers in these countries are falling into the range of predicted data, except for data from Brazil. The actual number of deaths in all the countries are at or below the predicted data. In conclusion, a linear regression model built with real data from countries or regions from early pandemics can predict pandemic scales of the countries where the pandemics occur late. Such a prediction with a high degree of accuracy provides valuable information for governments and the public.EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) are the front-line treatment in EGFR mutation positive advanced non-small cell lung cancer (aNSCLC) patients. Generally, they are well-tolerated but skin toxicity is common (45-100% of patients) and may adversely affect quality of life. Pathogenesis of cutaneous side effects is usually linked to EGFR expression in normal cells of the epidermis and not immune-related. Subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus (SCLE) is an autoimmune disease and about 40% of SCLE cases are drug related, but no reports are available involving osimertinib. Our report depicts a drug induced-SCLE (DI-SCLE) caused by erlotinib and worsened by osimertinib. The adverse event is characterized by the absence of systemic symptoms. Diagnosis has been performed by skin biopsy and the conditions improved with systemic steroids administration and EGFR-TKIs discontinuation. The report underlines the importance of a complete dermatologic diagnosis of skin lesions induced by EGFR inhibitors, according to symptom severity and timing of improving with standard clinical management. The diagnosis of immune-related skin toxicity in this context affects the treatment and the outcome of skin toxicity and must be taken into account when planning subsequent treatments, potentially including immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs).The Watchman device (WD) is a commonly used alternative strategy to oral anticoagulation for stroke risk reduction in patients with atrial fibrillation who have an increased bleeding risk. There are rare case reports of WD-related infection. Currently, there is no formal study that has systematically evaluated the incidence and outcomes WD-related infections. The objective of this study was to evaluate the incidence, risk factors, and outcomes for WD-associated infections in a single-center cohort over a 14-year period. All patients who underwent WD implantation over a 14-year study period (July 2004 through December 2018) comprised our cohort. Baseline characteristics, procedural data, and postimplantation events were identified through a retrospective chart review. Primary study outcomes included WD-related infection, other cardiovascular device-related infection, bacteremia, and mortality. A total of 181 patients (119 males; 65.7%) with a mean age of 75 years at implantation were included in the analysis. A total of 534.
