Diabetic peripheral neuropathy leads to foot deformity, soft tissues damage, and gait imbalance, all of which can increase the mechanical stress imposed on the foot and give rise to Charcot neuroarthropathy. We systematically analysed published data from January 2000 to November 2020 to assess methods of surgical offloading and associated outcomes for the surgical reconstruction. We tried to identify healing, remission-rates, return to ambulation, complications and limitations.

Parathyroid cancers are rare and difficult to distinguish from benign parathyroid tumours. Prediction of malignancy often relies on intraoperative assessment of invasion. Standard histology is also inadequate; especially in the absence of local invasion, lymph nodal disease and metastasis. The aim of this project was to systematically review published literature on potential bio-markers used for the diagnosis of parathyroid cancer.

Pubmed, Web of Science and Medline databases were searched. Inclusion criteria included English language papers published after 1985 and reporting on biomarkers in human studies of parathyroid cancer and benign disease.

118 relevant papers were appraised; all were observational studies. At least 2 papers studied 8 serum, 4 urine and 27 tissue biomarkers on the diagnosis of parathyroid cancer. Of these, 5 serum and 13 tissue markers have been demonstrated in at least one study to be statistically different in benign and malignant disease. We present a synthesis of data for each biomarker and measures of diagnostic accuracy where possible.

Consideration should be given to the use of a panel of biomarkers to review patients with suspected parathyroid cancer. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is associated with different types of human malignancies, including Burkitt lymphoma, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and lymphomas. We retrospectively investigated the presence of EBV-DNA by real-time PCR in clinical samples of patients diagnosed as having hematologic malignancies while investigating the cause of lymphoproliferative disorders, and investigated its relationship to clinical manifestations.

Fifty clinical samples sent to Gazi University's hematology clinics between November 2013 and March 2018 were included. EBV-DNA was investigated by real-time PCR method, and EBV-IgM and EBV-IgG antibodies were investigated by ELISA.

Fifty serum samples were investigated, and 10% (5/50) EBV-DNA positivity was determined in patients. Of the 5 patients with EBV-DNA positivity, 2 had acute lymphoblastic leukemia, 1 lymphoma, 1 T-cell lymphoma, and 1 B-cell lymphoma. Concomitant EBV-DNA and viral capsid antigen (VCA)-IgM positivity was not detected. The VCA-lgM test results of the all EBV-DNA-positive patients were negative and VCA-IgG positive (except for 1 patient). Regarding virus load, of the 5 samples, 2, 1, 1, and 1 of the samples had a virus load of 10

Metatranscriptomics have been used to study planktonic nutrient cycles and community dynamics. We hypothesised that the metatranscriptome could be used to monitor changing phytoplankton physiology near leases. To test this hypothesis, opportunistic samples were collected from one oceanic location in winter and one estuarine location in spring and analysed via RNASeq. Transcriptomes from different locations were found to have little overlap, due to different community compositions in the oceanic and estuarine locations. Transcript function was similar at each location. Proximity to the salmon pen had little influence over the transcriptome at the estuarine location. In the oceanic environment, diatom-based activity decreased near pens and dinoflagellate-based activity increased as demonstrated through the abundance of carbon fixation and nitrogen-acquisition-related transcripts. Our initial results suggest that the use of the metatranscriptome in monitoring is promising.
It is common practice to use pain quality indicators (QI) to accurately assess the medical care situation of patients. This literature review identifies the status quo of acute pain QI among adult inpatients.

Studies published in English or German were identified using a systematic search on CINAHL, Cochrane Library, PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar from 01/2007 to 02/2018. Additional pain management journals, conference proceedings, and websites of health organizations and pain societies were manually screened. Studies about postoperative pain in adults (≥18 years) during inpatient stay after all types of surgery in Europe were included in this review.

The identified study results were categorized into structural, process, and outcome indicators based on Donabedian's framework of evaluating care quality.

The search identified 319 citations, of which 20 studies used structure, process, and outcome data including 180,988 patients and 1,970 health care professionals to gain insight into the quality of acute pain management.
