Essential role with regard to paxillin tyrosine phosphorylation inside LPS-induced mitochondrial fission, ROS generation and lungs endothelial barrier decline.
Single-atom metal-nitrogen-carbon (M-N-C) catalysts have sparked intensive interests, however, the development of an atomically dispersed metal-phosphorus-carbon (M-P-C) catalyst has not been achieved, although molecular metal-phosphine complexes have found tremendous applications in homogeneous catalysis. Herein, we successfully construct graphitic phosphorus species coordinated single-atom Fe on P-doped carbon, which display outstanding catalytic performance and reaction generality in the heterogeneous hydrogenation of N-heterocycles, functionalized nitroarenes, and reductive amination reactions, while the corresponding atomically dispersed Fe atoms embedded on N-doped carbon are almost inactive under the same reaction conditions. Furthermore, we find that the catalytic activity of graphitic phosphorus coordinated single-atom Fe sharply decreased when Fe atoms were transformed to Fe clusters/nanoparticles by post-impregnation Fe species. This work can be of fundamental interest for the design of single-atom catalysts by utilizing P atoms as coordination sites as well as of practical use for the application of M-P-C catalysts in heterogeneous catalysis.Oligoclonal IgG bands (OCB) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) are important in diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS). We evaluated the MRI features of clinically definite MS subjects with and without CSF-OCB. Relapsing MS subjects were recruited from a prospective registry in a university center. CSF-OCB were detected using isoelectric focusing and lgG-specific immunofixation. MRI metrics including brain volumes, lesion volumes and microstructural measures, were analyzed by FMRIB Software Library (FSL) and Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPM). Seventy-five subjects with relapsing MS were analyzed. Forty-four (59%) subjects had an interval MRI at around 1 year. CSF-OCB were detected in 46 (61%) subjects. The OCB-positive group had a higher proportion of cerebellar lesions than the OCB-negative group (23.9% vs. 3.4%, p = 0.057). Except for amygdala volumes which were lower in the OCB-positive group (p = 0.034), other regional brain volumes including the subcortical deep gray matter and corpus callosum were similar. The two groups also showed comparable brain atrophy rate. For DTI, the OCB-positive group showed significantly higher mean diffusivity (MD) value in perilesional normal-appearing white matter (p = 0.043). Relapsing MS patients with and without CSF-OCB shared similar MRI features regarding volumetric analyses and DTI microstructural integrity.
Longitudinal study.

This study aimed to examine level and variations of life satisfaction (LS) across the seasons in persons with spinal cord injury (SCI).

Polish sample of persons with SCI.

The study included 56 persons with SCI, who repeatedly completed the Life Satisfaction Questionnaire (LiSaT-9), and a study-specific questionnaire across the four seasons in a calendar year. Mixed model analyses were performed to (1) examine seasonal changes in LS; (2) explore the possible moderating factors on seasonal changes in LS.

There were significant seasonal trends in overall and domain-specific LS scores; yet, these changes differed in terms of shape (i.e. Reversine research buy linear vs. quadratic). In general, the highest LS scores occurred in spring across all domains, followed by a significant reduction in summer; yet, there were u-shape trends in LS domain scores for life as a whole, vocational, and financial situation and partner relations (P-for-quadratic trends ≤0.05). Five individual characteristics, i.e. place of living, education, gender, physical activity, and time since injury significantly moderated seasonal trends in LS scores (P's for interaction ≤ 0.05).

Life satisfaction in persons with SCI differs significantly in relation to different seasons throughout a year. The season of the year should be considered in future studies on LS and included in evaluating and projecting healthcare interventions or programs for persons with SCI.

Yet, most population genetic studies ignore SGs either treating them as small random-mating units or focusing on a higher hierarchical level (the population). Empirical studies acknowledging SGs have found an overall excess of heterozygotes within SGs and usually invoke inbreeding avoidance strategies to explain this finding. However, there is a lack of null models against which ecological theories can be tested and inbreeding avoidance quantified. Here, we investigate inbreeding (deviation from random mating) in an endangered forest-dwelling pair-living lemur species (Propithecus tattersalli). In particular, we measure the inbreeding coefficient (FIS) in empirical data at different scales SGs, sampling sites and forest patches. We observe high excess of heterozygotes within SGs. The magnitude of this excess is highly dependent on the sampling scheme while offspring are characterised by a high excess of heterozygotes (FIS  less then  0), the reproductive pair does not show dramatic departures from Hardy-Weinberg expectations. Moreover, the heterozygosity excess disappears at larger geographic scales (sites and forests). We use a modelling framework that incorporates details of the sifaka mating system but does not include active inbreeding avoidance mechanisms. The simulated data show that, although apparent "random mating" or even inbreeding may occur at the "population" level, outbreeding is maintained within SGs. Altogether our results suggest that social structure leads to high levels of outbreeding without the need for active inbreeding avoidance mechanisms. Thus, demonstrating and measuring the existence of active inbreeding avoidance mechanisms may be more difficult than usually assumed.Animals have evolved adaptations to deal with environmental challenges. For instance, voluntarily releasing appendages (autotomy) to escape potential predators. Although it may enhance immediate survival, this self-imposed bodily damage may convey long-term consequences. Hence, compensatory strategies for this type of damage might exist. We experimentally induced autotomy in Prionostemma harvestmen. These arachnids are ideal to examine this topic because they show high levels of leg loss in the field but do not regenerate their legs. We video-recorded animals moving on a horizontal track and reconstructed their 3D trajectories with custom software tools to measure locomotor performance. Individuals that lost either three legs total or two legs on the same side of the body showed an immediate and substantial decrease in velocity and acceleration. Surprisingly, harvestmen recovered initial performance after 2 days. This is the quickest locomotor recovery recorded for autotomizing animals. We also found post-autotomy changes in stride and postural kinematics, suggesting a role for kinematic adjustments in recovery.
