A series of α-mercapto-β-amino acid derivatives were synthesized diastereoselectively in good yields through the aza-enolization of α-sulfanyl N-tert-butanesulfinylimidates, followed by their nucleophilic addition to N-tosyl imines via a Mannich-type reaction. Instead of an expected broadening, the distribution of singlet excitons narrows on a nanosecond time scale after photoexcitation. This narrowing results in an effective negative diffusion in which singlet excitons migrate toward the high-density region, eventually leading to a singlet exciton distribution that is smaller than the laser excitation spot. Modeling the excited-state dynamics demonstrates that the origin of the anomalous diffusion is rooted in nonlinear triplet-triplet annihilation (TTA). We anticipate that this is a general phenomenon that can be used to study exciton diffusion and nonlinear TTA rates in semiconductors relevant for organic optoelectronics.Nanospray desorption electrospray ionization mass spectrometry is an ambient ionization technique that is capable of mapping proteins in tissue sections. However, high-abundant molecules or isobaric interference in biological samples hampers its broad applications in probing low-abundant proteins. To address this challenge, herein we demonstrated an integrated module that coupled pneumatic-assisted nanospray desorption electrospray ionization mass spectrometry with high-field asymmetric ion mobility spectrometry. Using this module to analyze mouse brain sections, the protein coverage was significantly increased. This improvement allowed the mapping of low-abundant proteins in tissue sections with a 5 μm spatial resolution enabled by computationally assisted fusion with optical microscopic images. Moreover, the module was successfully applied to characterize melanoma in skin tissues based on the enhanced protein profiles. The results suggested that this integrating module will be potentially applied to discover novel proteins in cancers.Rotational spectroscopy provides the most powerful means of identifying molecules of biological interest in the interstellar medium (ISM), but despite their importance, the detection of carbohydrates has remained rather elusive. Here, we present a comprehensive Fourier transform rotational spectroscopic study of elusive erythrulose, a sugar building block likely to be present in the ISM, employing a novel method of transferring the hygroscopic oily carbohydrate into the gas phase. The high sensitivity of the experiment allowed the rotational spectra of all monosubstituted isotopologue species of 13C-12C3H8O4 to be recorded, which, together with quantum chemical calculations, enabled us to determine their equilibrium geometries (reSE) with great precision. Searches employing the new experimental data for erythrulose have been undertaken in different ISM regions, so far including the cold areas Barnard 1, the pre-stellar core TMC-1, Sagittarius B2. Although no lines of erythrulose were found, this data will serve to enable future searches and possible detections in other ISM regions.The homologation of ketones with diazo compounds is a useful strategy to synthesize one-carbon chain-extended acyclic ketones or ring-expanded cyclic ketones. However, the asymmetric homologation of acyclic ketones with α-diazo esters remains a challenge due to the lower reactivity and complicated selectivity. Herein, we report the enantioselective catalytic homologation of acetophenone and related derivatives with α-alkyl α-diazo esters utilizing a chiral scandium(III) N,N'-dioxide as the Lewis acid catalyst. This reaction supplies a highly chemo-, regio-, and enantioselective pathway for the synthesis of optically active β-keto esters with an all-carbon quaternary center through highly selective alkyl-group migration of the ketones. Moreover, the ring expansion of cyclic ketones was accomplished under slightly modified conditions, affording a series of enantioenriched cyclic β-keto esters. Density functional theory calculations have been carried out to elucidate the reaction pathway and possible working models that can explain the observed regio- and enantioselectivity.We developed a multidimensional vibrational circular dichroism system with a positional coordinate, making it possible to move in both x- and y-directions using an automatic stage. Quantum cascade laser (QCL) was used as a light source to achieve high intensity and narrow focusing. The QCL emitted light in the wavenumber range of 1500-1740 cm-1, which encompassed absorption bands assigned to the stretching vibrations of amides I and II. The operation of the instrument was analyzed for samples containing amide groups. Using geostationary ocean color imager (GOCI) data and observations from 1240 water quality sampling sites, we conducted experiments for a typical large-scale coastal area of the Zhejiang Coastal Sea (ZCS), People's Republic of China. The GNNWR model achieved higher prediction performance (average R2 = 84%) in comparison to the widely used models, and the obtained water quality classification (WQC) maps in May of 2015-2017 and August 2015 can depict intuitively reasonable spatiotemporal patterns of water quality in the ZCS.
