Despite the advances in developing nuclear weapons and other technologies, not much is known about the long-term effects of radiation on human health. In a world where nuclear energy could help curb carbon emissions, it almost seems paradoxical that its possible long-term risks and impacts to human health are still poorly understood. While researchers have investigated the effects of acute radiation in the aftermath of nuclear incidents such as Chernobyl, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and Fukushima, more needs to be done to understand the impacts of long-term and low-dose nuclear radiation. Studying the downwinders from the Nevada Test Site could offer one window to investigate those myriad effects. Objectives To observe the short-term efficacy of EX-PRESS filtration shunt implantation in the treatment of open angle glaucoma, and to analyze the safety and effectiveness of the surgical method. Methods From April 2017 to January 2018, a total of 28 eyes of 17 open angle glaucoma patients in Xiangya Hospital of Central South University were screened. Among them, 16 eyes in the experimental group were treated with EX-PRESS filtration shunt (P200)implantation, and 12 eyes in the control group underwent trabeculectomy. Related examinations were performed in 1 day before operation, 1 day after operation, 1 week after operation, 1 month after operation and 3 months after operation, which included intraocular pressure (IOP), uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) and best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), central anterior chamber depth (ACD), trabecular iris angle (TIA), the long axis of drainage nail and corneal endothelium angle (ACA), intraoperative and postoperative complications. Visual-related quality of life questionnaire was conducted and scored in 3 months after operation. Results In the experimental group, the IOP in 1 day after operation, 1 week after operation and 1 month after operation was decreased significantly compared with that in 1 day before operation (all P0.05), but the mean value in the former was higher. Conclusions As a new type of anti-glaucoma surgery, the success rate of EX-PRESS filtration shunt implantation for 3-month follow-up is equivalent to that of classic trabeculectomy. The operation process is simple, and there is no significant change in the ACD before and after the operation in the period of 3-month follow-up. The stability of the anterior chamber is better. There is no significant correlation between the relative position of the shunt in the anterior chamber and the IOP. Compared with trabeculectomy, there is no significant difference in the visual-related quality of life.Escherichia coli was one of the first species to have its genome sequenced and remains one of the best-characterized model organisms. Thus, it is perhaps surprising that recent studies have shown that a substantial number of genes have been overlooked. Genes encoding more than 140 small proteins, defined as those containing 50 or fewer amino acids, have been identified in E. coli in the past 10 years, and there is substantial evidence indicating that many more remain to be discovered. This review covers the methods that have been successful in identifying small proteins and the short open reading frames that encode them. The small proteins that have been functionally characterized to date in this model organism are also discussed. It is hoped that the review, along with the associated databases of known as well as predicted but undetected small proteins, will aid in and provide a roadmap for the continued identification and characterization of these proteins in E. coli as well as other bacteria.Dreadful culprits from the minuscule world, indeed, but … what about poverty, war, and terrorism in the macroscopic nowadays world? What is known and objective Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin disease with an important disease burden worldwide and its treatment includes systemic therapies which have advanced over time to target specific immune cytokines such as interleukin-17. The main objective of this study was to compare the relative efficacy of brodalumab, ixekizumab and secukinumab (three anti-interleukin-17 drugs) through adjusted indirect treatment comparisons (ITCs). Methods A search was carried out in June 2019, consulting these databases MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science and the Cochrane Library. Studies including patients with moderate to severe psoriasis randomized to receive treatment with anti-interleukin-17 drugs or ustekinumab and with outcomes such as Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) 75, PASI 90 and PASI 100 scores or static Physician's Global Assessment (sPGA), were included. ITCs were carried out using the method proposed by Bucher et al RESULTS AND DISCUSSION Five randomized clinical trials were included. SKF38393 chemical structure Analysing short-term data, there were no statistically significant differences between any pair of drugs in terms of PASI 75, PASI 100 or sPGA/sIGA 0/1. Analysing long-term data, statistically significant differences were only observed for secukinumab versus brodalumab in terms of PASI 100 (Absolute risk reduction -12.9%; 95% confidence interval -22.7% to -3.1%). What is new and conclusion The ITCs indicated no efficacy differences between anti-interleukin-17 drugs, except for secukinumab versus brodalumab 52-week analysis in terms of achieving PASI 100. All three drugs appear to act as equivalent clinical treatments for psoriasis. However, independent head-to-head trials should be carried out.Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common type of dementia in the elderly, accounting for about 75% of all dementia patients. The pathological feature of AD is the deposition of β-amyloid (Aβ) with strong neurotoxicity in brain tissue, while the hyperphosphorylation of tau in many neuronal cells forms neurofibrillary tangles (NFT). The combination of the two conditions leads to a large number of neuronal necrosis, disordered function of the brain, and serious cognitive dysfunction. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are a kind of adult stem cells, which can produce a large number of polyvesicular body secreted to the extracellular to form exosomes. Exosomes vary in size, with a diameter of about 30-150 nm, and can cross the blood-brain barrier. Exosomes can carry a large number of small miRNA and protein molecules to the brain to play a role. Exosomes derived from MSCs play regulatory roles on AD.
