Chronic expanding pericardial hematoma is a very rare disease that occurs after open-heart surgery. We report successful surgical treatment of a rare case of chronic expanding pericardial hematoma that developed into a large mass and presented as pericardial tamponade without apparent cause. An 82-year-old woman with no history of cardiac surgery, chest trauma, or epicardial injury presented with a 3-year history of progressive exertional dyspnea. Surgical resection of the mass via midsternotomy was planned to release the cardiac symptoms and to confirm the diagnosis of chronic expanding pericardial hematoma.To understand the health impact represented by exposure to current atmospheric pollution in China, an environmental health indicators (EHIs) system of atmospheric pollution was established. The EHIs were based on comprehensive consideration of environment, population, economy and diseases associated with atmospheric pollution. An EHIs evaluation system of atmospheric pollution, based on corresponding EHIs data collection and weighting coefficients determined using principal component analysis, was applied to major provinces and regions in China to evaluate the environmental health status. Results showed that the EHIs of atmospheric pollution in Central and East China were low, indicating a serious environmental health condition. Prevention and management of atmospheric pollution in these regions should be strengthened and protective measures taken to improve human health. Compared with other methods, the EHIs evaluation system was more intuitive, which facilitated users to identify the environmental health status and provided support for health management and pollution prevention.
Using phantoms and clinical studies in prone hanging breast imaging, we assessed the image quality of a commercially available dedicated breast PET (dbPET) at the detector's edge, where mammary glands near the chest wall are located. These are compared to supine PET/CT breast images of the same clinical subjects.
A breast phantom with four spheres (16-, 10-, 7.5-, and 5-mm diameter) was filled with
F-fluorodeoxyglucose solution (sphere-to-background activity concentration ratio, 81). The spheres occupied five different positions from the top edge to the centre of the detector and were scanned for 5 min in each position. Reconstructed images were visually evaluated, and the contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), contrast recovery coefficient (CRC) for all spheres, and coefficient of variation of the background (CV
) were calculated. Subsequently, clinical images obtained with standard supine PET/CT and prone dbPET were retrospectively analysed. Tumour-to-background ratios (TBRs) between breast cancer near the clesions near the chest wall if they are at least 2 cm from the edge of the FOV, even in young women with small breasts.
The phantom study revealed poorer image quality at less then 2-cm distance from the detector's edge than at other more central parts. In clinical studies, however, the visibility of breast lesions with dbPET was the same regardless of the lesion position, and it was higher than that in PET/CT. dbPET has a great potential for detecting breast lesions near the chest wall if they are at least 2 cm from the edge of the FOV, even in young women with small breasts.Recently, Shuhong Xu et al. reported theoretical calculation of molecular structure, bonding, aromaticity, electron delocalization, and electronic spectrum of cyclo[18]carbon in J. Here, we will point out inadequacies of Shuhong Xu's paper and put forward our own views. The contents of this comment will also help those who are studying cyclo[18]carbon to better understand this system and its analogues.
To evaluate robustness and repeatability of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) texture features in water and tissue phantom test-retest study.
Separate water and tissue phantoms were imaged twice with the same protocol in a test-retest experiment using a 1.5-T scanner. Protocols were acquired to favour signal-to-noise ratio and resolution. Forty-six features including first order statistics and second-order texture features were extracted, and repeatability was assessed by calculating the concordance correlation coefficient. Separately, base image noise and resolution were manipulated in an in silico experiment, and robustness of features was calculated by assessing percentage coefficient of variation and linear correlation of features with noise and resolution. These simulation data were compared with the acquired data. selleck chemical Features were classified by their degree (high, intermediate, or low) of robustness and repeatability.
Eighty percent of the MRI features were repeatable (concordance correlation coefficient > 0.9) in the phantom test-retest experiment. The majority (approximately 90%) demonstrated a strong or intermediate correlation with image acquisition parameter, and 19/46 (41%) and 13/46 (28%) of features were highly robust to noise and resolution, respectively (coefficient of variation < 5%). Agreement between the acquired and simulation data varied, with the range of agreement within feature classes between 11 and 92%.

As part of the inhibitory motor network, the pre-supplementary motor area is engaged in motor control and may be involved in tic physiology. We used dual-site transcranial magnetic stimulation to assess inhibitory connectivity between right pre-supplementary motor area and left primary motor cortex, which has previously been demonstrated in healthy adults. We also used diffusion tensor imaging to investigate white matter connectivity in children with chronic tics. Twelve children with chronic tic disorder and fourteen typically developing controls underwent MRI with diffusion tensor imaging indices analysis followed by single and paired-pulse transcranial magnetic stimulation with conditioning pulse over the right pre-supplementary motor area followed by left motor cortex test pulse. Neurophysiologic and imaging data relationships to measures of tic severity and suppressibility were also evaluated in tic patients. Pre-supplementary motor area-mediated inhibition of left motor cortex was present in healthy control children but not in chronic tic disorder participants.
