There were 732 determinations of kidney length, width, and thickness. The mean z-score of the right kidney length was 0.65 ± 0.08 (SEM) compared with 0.88 ± 0.08 of the left kidney length (p = 0.0003, two-sided paired t test). The squared correlation coefficient for kidney volume to kidney length was 0.32 (p < 0.0001). Bland and Altman analysis revealed considerable bias with - 1.36 ± 0.76 standard deviations and 95% limits of agreement from - 2.83 to - 0.16.
Reporting only kidney length results in significant overestimation of age-independent z-scores. Based on our findings, consideration to measuring all kidney dimensions may be more appropriate.

When organisms are exposed to an external stimulus, the endogenous oscillators synchronize to the cycling environment signal in a process known as entrainment. These environmental cues perform an important role in resetting the phase and period of the circadian clock. A "generalized assumption" states that when an organism has a short period, it will experience a phase advance, while an organism with a long period experiences a phase delay. Despite widespread use, this positive relationship relating period to the phase of entrainment does not describe all known experimental data. We developed a two-step entrainment model to explain a broader range of results as well as provide more quantitative analysis. We prove existence and stability of periodic orbits and given analytical solutions of the range of entrainment, fit the phase trajectory over the entire entrainment process to data from a published study for 12 subjects in extended day cycles, i.e., longer than 24 h. Our simulations closely replicated the phase data and predicted correctly the phase of entrainment. We investigate the factors related to the rate of entrainment (ROE) and present the three-dimensional parameter spaces, illustrating the various behaviors of the phase of entrainment and ROE. Our findings can be applied to diagnostics and treatments for patients with sleep disorders caused by shift work or jet lag.Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), with insulating band gap (> 6 eV) 2D material, has attracted extensive attentions. To discover potential applications in optoelectronic devices, modulation in electrical conductivity (n or p type) plays a significant role. In this paper, the structural and electronic properties of energetically stable doped boron nitride monolayer via ab initio calculations have been reported. Our basic focus is on fine tuning of the band gap with replacement of a number of elements by varying the dopant site. Our results show the opportunity to induce a reduced band gap values with smaller concentration of dopants, and also show many interesting physical properties with better structural stabilities, in X-doped BN sheet (X = P, S, O, F, Cl).The activities of the artisanals and small-scale miners in Nasarawa state, Nigeria, are increasing daily without considering the loss of biodiversity, which has continuously disrupted ecological functions and environmental balance. The study aimed at investigating the effect of tantalite mining activities on flora diversity. Three study sites were selected for floristic data collection, comprising tantalite mining site A situated in Azara, Awe LGA; tantalite mining site B situated in Tunga, Awe LGA; and referred site C situated along the Makurdi-Obi Road, Lafia LGA. Eight plots of 20 × 20 m were systematically placed along two transect lines of 1000 m with 500 m distance apart. The total numbers of 32 plant species, at the ratio of 112021 individual species, were found in sites A, B, and referred site C, respectively. Tantalite mining site A showed 46% rare herbs dominating the site, with an introduction of new non-native species of Jateorhiza spp. and Hyptis suaveolens, presenting a significantly high number of individuals (p ˂ 0.0069). Tantalite site B, Tunga, had 50% reductions of several indigenous tree species such as Daniellia oliveri and Vitex doniana, while site A had 75% reduction of tree species. Therefore, the floristic diversity in site A endured a higher degradation than in site B. The indigenous species in site A were almost completely replaced with problematic weeds, invasive weed species, and non-native plant species. The tree diversities in sites A and B were seriously threatened, and H. suaveolens has been regarded as a potentially invasive plant species in Nasarawa state, Nigeria.Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Habit Reversal Training (HRT) and Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT) are effective in reducing tic severity. ERP and HRT have recently gained primary support in a group setting, while CBIT has not been examined similarly. We compared the efficacy of group-CBIT to group-Educational Intervention for Tics (group-EIT) for tics and comorbid symptoms. Children with Tourette Syndrome (TS) or Chronic Tic Disorder (CTD) were randomized to group-CBIT or group-EIT. THZ531 solubility dmso Tics and comorbid symptoms were assessed in forty-six children pre- and postintervention, and 3-month later. Yale Global Tic Severity Scale (YGTSS) Motor tic severity decreased following both interventions, and was maintained at follow-up for group-CBIT only. The Parent Tic Questionnaire (PTQ) showed significant decrease in total and motor tic severity following group-CBIT only, a gain maintained three months later. YGTSS impairment score decreased following both interventions and was maintained at follow-up. YGTSS vocal tic severity score increased following both interventions, and then decreased significantly at follow up. Co-morbid symptoms including anxiety, behavioral problems, and aggressive behavior decreased following both interventions. Children with behavioral problems benefitted less while children with higher intellectual ability benefit more from intervention. Both group interventions showed efficacy in reducing tic impairment and comorbid symptoms. Group-CBIT was superior to group-EIT in reducing motor tic severity at 3-month follow-up, showing an advantage for tic-focused treatment. Based on the PTQ, group-CBIT was superior to group-EIT in reducing motor, vocal, and total tic scores, a gain maintained three months later.
