It has been postulated that psoriasis is associated with tongue lesions and geographic tongue might be "oral psoriasis". However, reports are inconclusive, prevalence rates vary and data for Europe are sparse. In this prospective case-control study we investigated the point-prevalence of tongue conditions in an Austrian cohort.

Psoriasis patients and healthy volunteers were assessed regarding tongue and skin lesions, age, sex, smoking habits, allergies, onset of psoriasis, PASI scores and anti-psoriatic treatment.

We included 173 psoriasis patients, 58 women, 115 men (median age 50 [37-60] years), and 173 volunteers, 79 women, 94 men (median age 54 [43-64] years). Overall, 95 subjects had allergies, 64 psoriasis patients and 50 volunteers were smokers. Median age at onset of psoriasis was 26 (12-40) years, the median PASI score was 2 (0-4.1), most patients received ustekinumab (n=47). Fissured tongue was significantly associated with psoriasis (25 [14.4%] psoriasis patients, 13 [7.5%] volunteers; P=0.04). Geographic tongue was present in four individuals of each group (2.3%) and associated with smoking (P=0.01) but not with psoriasis.

Overall, we found a low point-prevalence of tongue lesions in this Austrian cohort. Psoriasis was associated with fissured tongue but not with geographic tongue. Thus, we cannot corroborate the hypothesis that geographic tongue is an oral manifestation of psoriasis.

In this study, we prepared the hierarchical micro/nano topography using selective laser melting combined with alkali heat treatment (SLM-AHT) and explored the underlying mechanism of SLM-AHT surface-elicited osteogenesis. Our results show that cells cultured on SLM-AHT surface possess the largest number of mature FAs and exhibit a cytoskeleton reorganization compared with control groups. SLM-AHT surface could also significantly upregulate the expression of the cell adhesion-related molecule p-FAK, the osteogenic differentiation-related molecules RUNX2 and OCN as well as the mTORC2 signalling pathway key molecule Rictor. Notably, after the knocked-down of Rictor, there were no longer significant differences in the gene expression levels of the cell adhesion-related molecules and osteogenic differentiation-related molecules among the three titanium surfaces, and the cells on SLM-AHT surface failed to trigger cytoskeleton reorganization. In conclusion, the results suggest that mTORC2 can regulate the hierarchical micro/nano topography-mediated osteogenesis via cell adhesion and cytoskeletal reorganization.The Ortho-SUV frame (OSF) is a hexapod external fixator widely applied in orthopedics deformity correction. The possibility of collision between OSF's struts and the soft tissue is an essential but overlooked issue. To avoid the issue, a novel collision detection algorithm is established based on a cone-cylinder model of the tibial limb-strut interaction for detecting the closeness of the tibial limb and external fixator. The algorithm is constructed using the vector analysis based on the model of the minimum distance between the truncated cone generatrix and the cylinder axis. The motion simulation is performed on the overall alignment through the Solidworks-motion module to verify the feasibility of the algorithm. Subsequently, the installation parameter deviations of the bone-fixator system are described to investigate the influence of orientation and position deviation on the closeness of the tibial limb and external fixator through the numerical method. The investigation results show that the orientation deviation γ (around the z-axis), the position deviation τ1 and τ2 (along the x and y-axes, respectively) have greater sensitivity to closeness and the influence of multiple deviations on the closeness has the property of superposition. The proposed algorithm can assist clinicians to strictly design and appraise frame configurations prior to their application to avoid the collision between the external fixator and the limbs during the correction. It has great application significance in the development of computer-aided correction software.Oncogenic RAS variants lead to constitutive overactivation and increased signal transduction into downstream pathways. They are found as somatic driver events in various types of human cancer. In a somatic mosaic status, the same RAS variants have been associated with a wide spectrum of focal or segmental tissue dysplasia and overgrowth including various types of congenital nevi, vascular malformations, and other changes (mosaic RASopathies). We present a 3-year-old male patient with segmental overgrowth of the subcutaneous fatty tissue of the right lower extremity with colocalized arteriovenous and capillary malformations and dysplastic draining veins in combination with talipes equinovarus of the right foot. In tissue biopsies of the affected extremity, we identified a mosaic KRAS variant, c.35G>A (p.Gly12Asp), while this variant was absent in the DNA extracted from a biopsy of the normal extremity. This report provides further evidence for the wide clinical and phenotypic variability associated with mosaic KRAS variants. The described pattern confirms that the combination of segmental overgrowth and vascular anomalies in the form of arteriovenous and capillary malformations is a possible manifestation of a mosaic RASopathy.
