041) and smoking was independently associated with plaque rupture (P=0.006). Young patients with MetS were demonstrated to have more extensive TCFAs and young smokers had a higher prevalence of culprit plaque rupture. However, the role of miR-96 in cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) development and progression is yet to be elucidated. Thus, the aim of the present study was to investigate the role of miR-96 in CCA. The expression pattern of miR-96 in CCA tissues and cell lines was evaluated using reverse transcription-quantitative PCR analysis. selleck chemicals Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox regression analyses were conducted to investigate the prognostic significance of miR-96 in CCA. Cell Counting Kit-8 and Transwell assays were performed to identify the functions of miR-96. The association between miR-96 and metastasis suppressor-1 (MTSS1) was verified using a dual-luciferase assay. The results demonstrated that miR-96 expression levels were increased in CCA tissues and cell lines compared with those in adjacent normal tissues and normal human intrahepatic biliary epithelial cell lines, respectively. High expression levels of miR-96 were significantly associated with lymph node metastasis, differentiation and TNM stage. In addition, upregulated expression of miR-96 was associated with a poorer prognosis and was predicted to be a prognostic factor in patients with CCA. Overexpression of miR-96 in vitro promoted CCA cell proliferation, migration and invasion. Additionally, MTSS1 was identified as a direct target of miR-96. The results of the present study indicated the clinical and biological importance of miR-96 as an oncogene in CCA. miR-96 may represent an independent prognostic biomarker and may promote CCA cell proliferation, migration and invasion by targeting MTSS1. The application of bronchial blockers, including the Uniblocker or Arndt blocker, has increased in OLV. The present study aimed to compare the efficacy and adverse effects of the Uniblocker and LDLT for OLV under the guidance of chest CT. A total of 60 adult patients undergoing elective left-side thoracic surgery requiring OLV were included in the study. The patients were randomly assigned to the Uniblocker group (U group, n=30) or the LDLT group (D group, n=30). The time for initial tube placement, the number of optimal positions of the tube upon blind insertion, the number of attempts to adjust the tube to the optimal position, incidence of airway device displacement, injury to the bronchi and carina, the duration until lung collapse and the occurrence of sore throat and hoarseness over 24 h following surgery were recorded. The time for successful placeme study was registered at ClinicalTrials.gov on 16th December 2017 (no. NCT03392922). Previous bioinformatics analysis has demonstrated that miR-200b has a complementary binding site in the 3'-untranslated region of radixin mRNA. The present study aimed to investigate the role of miR-200b in regulating radixin expression, cell proliferation and invasion in breast cancer. Breast cancer tissues at different Tumor-Node-Metastasis (TNM) stages were collected; breast tissues from patients with hyperplasia were used as a control. miR-200b and radixin mRNA expression levels were tested by reverse transcription-quantitative PCR. Radixin protein expression was detected by western blotting. The highly metastatic MDA-MB-231 cells were divided into four groups and transfected with a miR-negative control (NC), miR-200b mimic, small interfering (si)RNA-NC or siRNA targeting radiSpandidos Publications.Colonic dysmotility as a complication of diabetes affects public health; however, the underlying molecular mechanisms have remained elusive. Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) was previously demonstrated to prevent apoptosis of colonic smooth muscle cells (SMCs) and alleviate colonic dysmotility in diabetic rats. However, the regulatory mechanisms upstream of IGF-1 in colonic dysmotility have remained to be determined. The present study reports on microRNA-155 (miR-155), initially identified using bioinformatics, as a direct upstream regulator of IGF-1. In colonic SMCs, miR-155 negatively regulated IGF-1 expression at the post-transcriptional level, as identified through ectopic overexpression and knockdown experiments. A luciferase reporter assay further demonstrated that miR-155 inhibits IGF-1 through binding to its 3'-untranslated region. Furthermore, overexpression of miR-155 led to increased apoptosis of colonic SMCs and a decrease in the thickness of colonic smooth muscle tissues of diabetic mice, indicating miR-155 aggravates colonic dysmotility. By contrast, knockdown of miR-155 induced the opposite effect. Overall, the results of the present study suggest a role of miR-155 in colonic dysmotility, thereby providing a novel therapeutic target. The bone mineral density (BMD) at various parts of the proximal femur is significantly correlated with the holding force of the lag screw, which in turn is closely associated with the stability of the fixation. However, the appropriate placement of the lag screw has been controversial. As a novel detection method for BMD, quantitative computed tomography (QCT) may provide relatively accurate measurements of three-dimensional structures and may provide an easy way to determine the appropriate lag screw placement. A total of 50 elderly patients with intertrochanteric fractures were selected for the present study. The BMD of the proximal femur on the healthy side, including the femoral intertrochanter, neck and head, was measured using QCT. For testing, the femoral head was divided into medial, central and lateral sections. The BMD of the femoral head was determined to be the highest, while the BMD of the femoral neck was the lowest.
