Patients with an eating disorder are frequently referred to as a particularly challenging group to treat. As a consequence, it is important to understand how working with eating disorders affects workplace well-being. Job satisfaction is a key indicator of workplace welfare. selleck The aims of the current study were to (a) measure overall job satisfaction among healthcare providers working at specialized eating disorder units in Norway, and (b) to investigate possible differences in job satisfaction between professional groups and between staff working fixed versus rotating shifts.

This cross-sectional study is part of a larger study investigating work-related well-being at specialized eating disorder units in Norway. The total sample was composed of 186 participants from 11 specialized eating disorder units.

Overall, high job satisfaction was found across all professional groups. There were significant differences between daytime and shift workers on several dimensions of job satisfaction. Medical doctors and clinical psychologists scored significantly higher than nursing staff on several aspects of job satisfaction.

Life expectancy is increasing all over the world. To be able to support this positive development, health interventions focusing on promotion and prevention are crucial. Preventive home visits represent one example of a health intervention which addresses both promotion through a supportive dialogue and prevention by giving advice. However, to give support and advice that older persons experience as beneficial, there is a need for more research.

The aim of this study was to explore older person's experiences of the benefits gained from the support and advice given during the preventive home visit.

Individual semi-structured interviews were conducted with 13 older persons, median age 77years old, living at home, who had received a preventive home visit. The interviews were analysed with content analysis.

Trachyonychia, a rare inflammatory disease of the nail matrix, has a more chronic course in adults compared with that in children. However, the histopathologic features of the disease have not been sufficiently reported in the literature.

We retrospectively reviewed the pathologic features of idiopathic trachyonychia in adult cases at our center.

A total of 30 cases were included. The median age was 55.5 years (range, 27-77 years). Median disease duration was 84 months (range, 8-384 months). Histopathologic analysis showed upper dermal lymphocytic infiltrates (93.3%), acanthosis (86.7%), exocytosis (63.3%), spongiosis (63.3%), parakeratosis (46.7%), psoriasiform hyperplasia (40%), eosinophilic infiltrates (33.3%), vacuolar degeneration (33.3%), lichenoid pattern (13.3%), Civatte body (6.7%), and collection of neutrophils in the stratum corneum (3.3%). Statistical analysis among pathologic parameters revealed associations of spongiosis with exocytosis (P < 0.001) and lichenoid infiltration with vacuolar degeneration (P = 0.008). Three patients (10%) showed fungal co-infection.

Given the inflammation and chronic course of idiopathic trachyonychia in adulthood, active treatment with anti-inflammatory agents should be considered. Additionally, mycological tests should be considered during initial evaluation as there are cases with fungal coinfection.

To this end, we designed and synthesized a novel guanidinium-functionalized pillar[5]arene (GP5) that exhibited high antibacterial potency against Gram-negative E. coli (BH101) and Gram-positive S. aureus (ATCC25904) strains. More importantly, GP5 effectively disrupted preformed E. coli biofilms by efficient penetration through biofilm barriers and subsequent destruction of biofilm-enclosed bacteria. Furthermore, host-guest complexation between GP5 and cefazolin sodium, a conventional antibiotic that otherwise shows negligible activity against biofilms, exhibited much enhanced, synergistic disruption activity against E. coli biofilms, thus providing a novel supramolecular platform to effectively disrupt biofilms.
