Interleukin enhancer binding factor 2 (ILF2) is known as the nuclear factor of activated T cells and regulates cell growth. This study was aimed to explore the effects of ILF2 on IA progression. Human brain VSMCs (hBVSMCs) were transfected with pCDNA3.1(+), pCDNA3.1(+)-ILF2, siRNA-negative control, and siRNA-ILF2. The transfection efficiency was then evaluated by determining ILF2 expression. The cell viability and apoptosis were determined using Cell Counting Kit-8 and Annexin V-FITC cell apoptosis assay kit, respectively. Real-time quantification PCR (RT-qPCR) was applied to measure the expression levels of apoptosis-related and inflammation-related genes. Finally, western blot was used to detect the expression level of Fas cell surface death receptor 95 (CD95) and Caspase 8. Overexpression of ILF2 could significantly increase cell viability and decrease cell apoptosis (P less then 0.05), while knock-down of ILF2 showed opposite trends for hBVSMCs on cell viability and apoptosis (P less then 0.05). RT-qPCR results showed that ILF2 knock-down downregulated the expression levels of BCL2 apoptosis regulator (BCL2), transcriptional regulator Myc-like (c-Myc), and caspase 1 (ICE) whereas upregulated the expression levels of CD95, p21, p53, and interleukin-13 (IL-13). selleck kinase inhibitor Additionally, the protein expression levels of CD95 and Caspase 8 were significantly decreased after ILF2 overexpression while were significantly increased after ILF2 knock-down (P less then 0.05). Silicone oil insertion is a common modality in vitreoretinal surgeries. The purpose of this study is to conduct a systematic review to summarize the uncommon complication of extraocular silicone oil migration.
Following the PRISMA guidelines, a systematic review of the literature was performed on January 11, 2020, using PubMed and EMBASE with the following terms "silicone oil," "eye," and "migrat*."
A total of 69 patients-68 patients from 59 articles and one case from our institution-were included in the final analysis. The median age was 54years (range, 9-92) and 40 patients (57.9%) were men. Orbital migration was reported in 34 patients, and retrolaminar migration (including optic nerve, optic chiasm, suprasellar, subarachnoid space, intraventricular spaces) was reported in 35 patients. Orbital migration group had more aphakics (p = 0.007), implanted glaucoma drainage device (p = 0.005), scleral buckle (p = 0.000), history of trauma-related indications for pars plana vitrectomy (p = 0.000), shorter silicone oil endotamponade time (p = 0.008), more symptomatic (p = 0.000), and requiring surgical intervention (p = 0.000). Retrolaminar migration group had older patients (p = 0.016) and more diabetics (p = 0.041).
Systematic review sheds light on plausible risk factors on site of silicone oil migration. Majority of orbital cases are symptomatic and require intervention while retrolaminar cases are incidental and can be managed conservatively. Awareness of this complication can help guide clinicians predict which patients would likely need surgical intervention. Graphical abstract.

Graphical abstract.Antimicrobial peptides are polypeptides composed of less than 100 amino acids and are a class of antibiotics with strong activity against some infectious bacteria. This study examined the safety of four chosen antimicrobial peptides using primary human corneal epithelial cells (HCEC) and explored their potential therapeutic use. The efficacy of the peptides was also studied by evaluating the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. One of the peptides (polymyxin E) was found to have antibacterial efficacy against a common Gram-negative bacterium (MIC 1.56 μg/mL for Pseudomonas aeruginosa), and another one (nisin) was found to have antibacterial efficacy against a common Gram-positive bacterium (MIC 125 μg/mL for Staphylococcus aureus). Metabolic activity and live/dead/apoptotic effects were measured with fluorescent dyes after HCEC were exposed to the peptides for 30 min. Three of the peptides exhibited lower toxicity against HCEC than a currently marketed eye drop product. Regarding both efficacy and safety, two of the peptides (polymyxin E and nisin) were found to have potential use for treating ocular infections.Deregulated STAT5 activity in the mammary gland of transgenic mice results in parity-dependent latent tumorigenesis. The trigger for cell transformation was previously associated with hyperactivation of the H2AX proximal promoter in a small basal cell population during pregnancy. The current study focuses on the latent activation of tumor development. H2AX was highly expressed in carcinoma and adenocarcinoma as compared to the multiparous mammary gland, whereas pSTAT5 expression decreased in a tumor type-dependent manner. In contrast to the pregnant gland, no positive correlation between H2AX and pSTAT5 expression could be defined in carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. Using targeted methylation analysis, the methylation profile of the H2AX promoter was characterized in the intact gland and tumors. Average H2AX promoter methylation in the tumors was relatively high (~90%), but did not exceed that of the multiparous gland; 5mC methylation was higher in the differentiated tumors and negatively correlated with its oxidative product 5hmC and H2AX expression.
