g. yearly rate of decline of FEV1 % pred was -0.51 (-1.59-2.24) and -0.90 (-1.92--0.42) in TSC-LAM and S-LAM, respectively, p = 0.265]. In conclusion, the natural history of TSC-LAM and S-LAM, when a potential selection bias due to screening in the latter group is balanced, is similar. Our study suggests that the prevalence of S-LAM can be significantly underestimated due to a tendency to diagnosis more frequently patients with more severe impairment, without identifying several ones with asymptomatic disease. Background Quality of life (QOL) is an important patient-related outcome (PRO) in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). There are several QOL questionnaires like the "Cystic Fibrosis Questionnaire Revised" (CFQ-R) or the "St George's Respiratory Questionnaire" (SGRQ) that are well validated in CF. The aim of the study was to evaluate whether the easily applicable "COPD assessment test" (CAT) can be used in CF patients. Methods 42 CF patients were recruited within the PulmoHOM study, a prospective, observational cohort study. The CAT, the SGRQ and the CFQ-R were handed out to the patients. The spearman's rank correlation coefficient and the Cronbach's α coefficient were used for the statistical analysis. Results The internal consistencies of the CAT, SGRQ and the CFQ-R were high (Cronbach's α coefficients = 0.89, 0.91 and 0.83). There were significant correlations between the CAT and the total score of the SGRQ (r = 0.851, p less then 0.01), between the CAT and many items of the CFQ-R (physical score of the CFQ-R and total score of the CAT r = -0.872, p less then 0.01) and between the SGRQ and the CFQ-R (physical score of the CFQ-R and total score of the SGRQ r = -0.878, p less then 0.01). Conclusion The main finding was the high correlation between the CAT and the validated questionnaires in CF. The CAT is a PRO instrument that can be filled quickly and that correlates well with the CFQ-R. The CAT or similar tools might be applicable in the care of CF patients.Although metastasis can occur at a variety of sites, pulmonary involvement is common in patients with cancer. Depending on the source and type of tumor, pulmonary metastases present with a wide range of radiologic appearances. Hematogenous dissemination through the pulmonary arteries to the pulmonary capillary network is the most common form of spread in pulmonary metastases. However, they may also reach the lung via lymphatic dissemination, secondary airway involvement, vessel tumor embolism, and direct chest invasion. In the evaluation of patients with known extrathoracic tumors, CT is the state-of-the-art imaging modality for detecting and characterize pulmonary metastases as well as to predict resectability. Although CT limitations are well known, knowledge of growth rates of various tumors and understanding the pattern of spread may be helpful clues in suggesting and even establish the specific diagnosis. The purpose of this pictorial review is to discuss the imaging appearances of different patterns of intrathoracic tumoral dissemination. Background Cough is a common yet distressing symptom that results in significant health care costs from outpatient visits and related consultations. Objective The understanding of the pathobiology of cough in recent times has undergone an evolution with Cough hypersensitivity syndrome (CHS) being suggested in most cases of dry cough. However, in the case of productive cough, ancillary mechanisms including impaired Mucociliary clearance, in addition to hypermucosecretory bronchospastic conditions of Smoker's cough, asthma-COPD overlap, bronchiectasis, and allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis, need to be critically addressed while optimizing patient care with symptomatic therapy in outpatient settings of India. Methods In this review, evidence-based graded recommendations on use of antitussives - & protussives as a Position Paper were developed based on the Level and Quality of Scientific evidence as per Agency for Health Care and Quality (AHRQ) criteria listing and Expert opinions offered by a multidisciplinary EMA panel in India. Results Management of acute or chronic cough involves addressing common issues of environmental exposures and patient concerns before instituting supportive therapy with antitussives or bronchodilatory cough formulations containing mucoactives, anti-inflammatory, or short-acting beta-2 agonist agents. Conclusion The analyses provides a real world approach to the management of acute or chronic cough in various clinical conditions with pro- or antitussive agents while avoiding their misuse in empirical settings.A novel marine bacterium, designated strain 216LB-ZA1-12T, was isolated from a Penaeus vannamei aquaculture seawater sample. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain 216LB-ZA1-12T belonged to the genus Sneathiella, with the highest sequence similarity to Sneathiella glossodoripedis MKT133T (97.7 %), followed by Sneathiella limimaris GH1-24T (97.0 %), Sneathiella chungangensis CAU 1294T (96.6 %) and Sneathiella chinensis LMG 23452T (96.1 %). The average nucleotide identity and the DNA-DNA hybridization estimate values between strain 216LB-ZA1-12T and four close type strains were between 69.2-71.3% and 16.7-17.8 %, respectively. The bacterium was Gram-stain-negative, facultatively anaerobic, oxidase and catalase positive, oval- to rod-shaped, and motile. Growth was observed at pH 7-9, salinities of 1-15% and temperatures of 4-42 °C. selleckchem The G+C content of the chromosomal DNA was 48.50 mol%. The major respiratory quinone was determined to be Q-10. The principal fatty acids were summed feature 8 (C18 1 ω7c/ω6c) and C16 0. The major polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine and aminophospholipid. The combined genotypic and phenotypic data show that strain 216LB-ZA1-12T represents a novel species within the genus Sneathiella, for which the name Sneathiella aquimaris sp. nov. is proposed, with the type strain 216LB-ZA1-12T (=MCCC 1A14570T=KCTC 72144T).Background Lung cancer is among the most common cancers worldwide, responsible for 13% of all new cancer cases. Also, is the leading cause of cancer death among both men and women. In this scenario, an effective and efficient treatment is required. Objective Production of two gold nanoparticles 198Au and 99mTc-Au. The first one has been directed produced from irradiation of the 197Au in order to produce a beta-emitter gold nanoparticle for cancer therapy. The second one, has been directed produced from the radiolabeling of gold nanoparticles with technetium 99 metastable in order to produce imaging nanoagent. Methods The 198Au Nanoparticles were produced by irradiation and identified by hyper-purity germanium (HPGe). Then were evaluated in vitro in order to confirm the behavior on cell proliferation of lung cancer cell line, by the MTT methodology using A549 cells. The 99mTc-Au nanoparticles were produced by direct-radiolabeling with 99mTc and evaluated in vivo as intralesional nanoagent. Results The results showed that in both cases, all the nanoparticles have performed their duties with excellence.
