Conversely, intake of fiber [OR 0.997, CI (0.012, 0.999)], W3 [OR 0.991, CI (0.040, 0.999)], and vitamin K [OR 0.994, CI (0.990, 0.999)] were marginal associated with reduced odds of AB.

As there is no specific therapy for SARS-CoV-2 infection at present and also because of the long time it takes to discover a new drug and the urgent need to respond urgently to a pandemic infection. Perhaps the best way right now is to find an FDA-approved drug to treat this infection. Oxidative stress and inflammation play a vital role in the progression of tissue injury in COVID-19 patients; furthermore, the G6PD activation is related to increased oxidative inflammation in acute pulmonary injury. In this regard, we propose a new insight that may be a good strategy for this urgency. Exploiting G6PD through inhibiting G6PD activity by modifying redox balance, metabolic switching and protein-protein interactions can be proposed as a new approach to improving patients in severe stage of COVID 19 through various mechanisms. Polydatin is isolated from many plants such as Polygonum, peanuts, grapes, red wines and many daily diets that can be used in severe stage of COVID-19 as a G6PD inhibitor. Furthermore, polydatin possesses various biological activities such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, immunoregulatory, nephroprotective, hepatoprotective, anti-arrhythmic and anti-tumor. Our hypothesis is that the consumption of antioxidants such as Polydatin (a glucoside of resveratrol) as a complementary therapeutic approach may be effective in reducing oxidative stress and inflammation in patients with COVID-19.
In this article we connect the dysregulation of the transsulfuration pathway to bone dysregulations and propose a novel treatment for osteoporosis. Current treatments for osteoporosis are very frequently inadequate. In osteoporosis, the risk of fractures increases with increased homocysteine (Hcy).
Here, we conduct a review on the relationship between osteoporosis and the dysregulation of the transsulfuration pathway.
we show that the transsulfuration pathway metabolizes Hcy to L-cysteine. Increased Hcy levels point to the transsulfuration pathway being dysregulated. see more With the transsulfuration pathway dysregulated, there will be decreased levels of L-cysteine and decreased levels of taurine, which is synthesized from L-cysteine. Taurine levels are decreased in patients with osteoporosis. Taurine regulates intracellular calcium homeostasis. Taurine, also, when conjugated with bile acids assists with absorption of fats and fat-soluble vitamins such as vitamin D and vitamin K. Dysregulated calcium homeostasis, decreased calcium absorption and decreased absorption of vitamin D and vitamin K due to low levels of taurine negatively affect bone mineral density (BMD) leading to osteoporosis and fractures.
In this article, we propose that a combination of taurine, calcium, vitamin D and vitamin K, could increase BMD reducing number of years spent in disability and reducing deaths due to fractures in patients with osteoporosis.

Today, Sleeve gastrectomy (SG) has recently become the most common bariatric procedure among various bariatric surgical procedures due to its advantages. The aim of this study is to investigate nutritional status, body composition and biochemical parameters following SG.
This was a prospective study, the subjects were patients who underwent SG at a special obesity clinic in İstanbul, Turkey, between 01.05.2017 and 01.11.2017. The mean body mass index (BMI) of the participants was 42.15±4.84kg/m
for men and 41.44±4.34kg/m
for women, preoperatively. Nutritional status, some anthropometric measurements and blood sampling were taken at each visit. Data were collected and analyzed for the present study at the following periods pre-operation (pre-op), 1 month, 3 months and 6 months after surgery.
A total of 47 SG patients (20 men, 27 women) were evaluated. The mean BMI was 30.23±3.56kg/m
for men and 30.35±4.36kg/m
for women after 6 months and the amount of excess weight loss (EWL) increased in the 3 months (p<.001). Mean energy, fiber, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin B
, niacin, vitamin B
, folate, calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, phosphorus and iodine were above the Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) recommendations. A significant association was found between protein intake and fat free mass loss in both genders after SG at 6 months (p<.05).
Nutrition deficiencies are common for patients after SG. Therefore, it is important to routinely monitor these patients with a professional team.

Malnutrition is inevitable in patients with Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) due to its effect on the gastrointestinal system, immune system, and high metabolic activity. However, the prevalence of malnutrition and its outcomes is uncertain. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and outcome of malnutrition among patients with COVID-19.
A comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed/Medline; Science direct and LILACS from December 29, 2019 to September, 2020 without language restriction. All observational studies reporting the prevalence of malnutrition were included while case reports and reviews were excluded. The data were extracted with two independent authors with a customized format and the disagreements were resolved by the other authors. The methodological quality of included studies was evaluated using a standardized critical appraisal tool.
A total of 511 articles were identified from different databases and 27 articles were selected for evaluation after the successive screening. Fourteen articles with 4187 participants were included.
