Serological techniques are an essential part of the diagnostic tools used in clinical virology. Among these techniques, antibody indexes are not novel, but do require specific expertise. Their niche has expanded substantially in recent years due to increasing evidence of their performance to diagnose viral infections.

This narrative review describes the background and clinical applications of antibody indexes. The first objective is to provide an overview of the theoretical background, insights for implementation, limitations and pitfalls. The second objective is to review the available evidence for the diagnostic performance, with a specific focus on viral encephalitis and uveitis.

A comprehensive literature search was performed in PubMed, including original studies and reviews, with no time limit on the studies included. To report on the current evidence regarding the seroconversion rate and the duration of humoral protection after YF vaccine, as well as the impact of revaccination in PLWHIV.

MEDLINE, Google Scholar, LILACS and Cochrane CENTRAL were searched.

We selected studies on PLWHIV of all ages (including perinatally HIV-infected patients) and all settings (YF endemic and non-endemic zones). Intervention investigated was vaccination against YF, at least once after the HIV diagnosis. The research questions were the seroconversion rate, duration of humoral immunity after YF vaccine and impact of revaccination in PLWHIV. Selected studies were assessed for quality using the Newcastle-Ottawa scale.

Ten, six and six studies were selected for the systematic review of each question, respectively. Only one study addressed the first question in perinatally HIV-ilable data, it is difficult to rationally develop yellow fever vaccination guidelines for PLWHIV.
There is controversy regarding the optimal treatment of posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) -based multi-ligamentous injuries. The purpose of this study was to compare the subjective and objective clinical outcomes of arthroscopic transtibial reconstruction and tibial inlay reconstruction.

From 2005 to 2013, a total of 135 patients with PCL-based multi-ligamentous injuries were consecutively identified. Patients were operated with the arthroscopic transtibial technique or the open tibial inlay technique group. Other injured structures were reconstructed or repaired simultaneously. All of the patients underwent a preoperative and postoperative physical examination, KT-1000 measurement, stress radiography under anesthesia and subjective evaluations including Tegner score, Lysholm score, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) score.

During a L'Episcopo transfer procedure, the tendons of the latissimus dorsi and teres major are reinserted on the posterolateral side of the humeral shaft to restore active external rotation. The aim of this study was to monitor the radiological changes at the insertion point of this transfer and to evaluate its impact on the clinical outcomes.

In this retrospective, single-center study, 13 patients (mean age 56 years; 19-84) were reviewed after a minimum follow-up of 2 years. KC7F2 price The L'Episcopo transfer was done either alone (n=2) or in combination with reverse shoulder arthroplasty (n=11). The same transfer technique was used in both instances, with reattachment by transosseous sutures. The clinical assessment consisted of the Constant score (CS), the Activities of Daily Living Requiring Active External Rotation (ADLER) score and the Subjective Shoulder Value (SSV). At a mean follow-up of 37 months (24-72), the mean CS was 60 points (32-75), the ADLER was 21 points (15-30) and the SSV was 77% (10-95). In the radiographic analysis, 10/13 patients had osteolysis visible in the transfer area 2 were grade 1 (15%), 1 was grade 2 (8%), 7 were grade 3 (54%). There was no statistical correlation between the presence of osteolysis and the clinical outcomes. Nevertheless, external rotation with elbow at side and forward flexion were better in the patients who had osteolysis≥grade 2.

The L'Episcopo transfer is associated with frequent osteolysis of the humeral cortex where the transfer is attached, even though the transfer appears effective. Long-term follow-up will be needed to evaluate the impact of this osteolysis on the stability of any shoulder arthroplasty implants.

It also highlights the arguments raised by authors such as James McCune Smith and Ramón de la Sagra who attempted to disprove the returns shortly after their publication, and whose arguments contributed to efforts to combat scientific racism.
