Pediatric symptom checklist (PSC)-youth self-report short version was administered telephonically to children between 11-15 years to study the impact on mental health. Out of 423 children, 130 (30.7%) had psychosocial problems, of which 107 (25.2%) had anxiety or depressive symptoms. The common reasons were fear of acquiring COVID-19 infection (60%), not able to attend school (56%), and not able to meet friends (80%).
To study the clinical and laboratory profile and to assess period for viral clearance in COVID 19 children.
We reviewed hospital records of children (<18 years) admitted from 1 April to 31 May, 2020 at a tertiary-care public hospital and identified those positive for severe acute respiratory syndrome corona virus (SARS-CoV-2) by RT-PCR of respiratory secretions.
81.2% of the 85 children studied were asymptomatic and 3 (8.5%) died. Severe lymphopenia (43.8%), raised C-reactive protein (93.8%), raised erythrocyte sedimentation rate (75%) and high (>500ng/mL) levels of D-dimer (37.5%) were common. Median (IQR) duration of viral shedding was 7 (5-10) days, with range of 2 to 45 days; 96.3% had viral clearance within 14 days.
Majority of children aged <18 years with SARS-CoV-2 infection had viral clearance within 14 days.
Majority of children aged less then 18 years with SARS-CoV-2 infection had viral clearance within 14 days.
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer and is the leading cause of cancer death in women worldwide. Both talazoparib and olaparib are approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for treating
(breast cancer 1, early onset)-mutated
(human epidermal growth factor receptor 2)-negative metastatic or advanced breast cancer. However, the optimal choice of first-line treatment has not been determined.
To compare the efficacy, safety, and acceptability of single-agent poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors for patients with
-mutated
-negative metastatic or advanced breast cancer.
We included two trials comprising 733 participants. Compared with talazoparib, olaparib was not associated with improved PFS (
= 1.08, 95%
= 0.34-3.45) or OS (
= 1.18, 95%
= 0.61-2.31). Compared with talazoparib, olaparib was associated with non-significantly improved ORR (
= 0.83, 95%
= 0.05-12.64). Regarding safety, olaparib had reduced risk for both grade 3-4 anemia (
= 0.34, 95%
os (HR) with 95% credible intervals (CrIs) were calculated for PFS, OS, and the time to deterioration of quality of life (QoL). The pooled estimates of odds ratio (OR) with 95% CrIs were calculated for ORR, AEs, and treatment discontinuation. This study is registered with PROSPERO (CRD42019138939).Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), which occurs frequently worldwide, is characterized by high risk of metastasis. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play crucial roles in tumorigenesis and cancer development. In this study, miR-29c-5p was identified using three high throughput microarrays. We measure miR-29c-5p expression in HNSCC tissues and cell lines. To determine the function of miR-29c-5p in HNSCC, we evaluated its effects in vitro on cell proliferation, the cell cycle, apoptosis, and cell migration. We employed a mouse tumor xenograft model to determine the effects of miR-29c-5p on tumors generated by HNSCC cell lines. The miR-29c-5p expression was lower in HNSCC tissues than in normal tissues. Upregulated miR-29c-5p expression in HNSCC cells inhibited migration and arrested cells in the G2/M phase of the cell cycle. Further, upregulated miR-29c-5p expression inhibited the proliferation of HNSCC cells in vivo and in vitro. In addition, transmembrane protein 98 (TMEM98) was identified as a direct target of miR-29c-5p by using a luciferase reporter assay. These findings provide new insights that link the regulation of miR-29c-5p expression to the malignant phenotype of HNSCC and suggest that employing miR-29c-5p may serve as a therapeutic strategy for managing patients with HNSCC.Aging impairs the IGF-I signaling of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (bmMSCs), but the mechanism is unclear. Here, we found that the ability to auto-phosphorylate IGF-I receptor (IGF-IR) in response to IGF-I was decreased in the bmMSCs of aged donors. Conversely, data showed that decorin (DCN) expression was prominently increased in aged bmMSCs, and that under IGF-I treatment, DCN knockdown in serum-starved aged bmMSCs potentiated their mitogenic activity and IGF-IR auto-phosphorylation, whereas DCN overexpression in serum-starved adult bmMSCs decreased both activities. Co-immunoprecipitation assays suggested that IGF-I and DCN bound to IGF-IR in a competitive manner. Online MethPrimer predicted 4 CpG islands (CGIs) in the introns of DCN gene. RT-qPCR and bisulfite sequencing showed that dimethyloxalylglycine, an inhibitor of DNA demethylation, increased DCN mRNA expression and CGI-I methylation in adult bmMSCs, whereas 5-aza-2'-deoxycytidine, a DNA methylation inhibitor, decreased DCN mRNA expression and CGI-I methylation in aged bmMSCs, and ultimately enhanced the proliferation of serum-starved aged bmMSCs under IGF-I stimulation. Thus, IGF-IR could be the prime target of aging in down-regulating the IGF-I signaling of bmMSCs, where DCN could be a critical mediator. The COVID-19 pandemic causes psychological trauma in the whole society, thus investigation of the epidemiology of psychiatric symptoms is an outstanding research field during this period. Fear of infection, exposure to updated data on death figures, social isolation, adaptation to new restricting rules, existential crisis, reduction of health care availability poses dangers for mental health. Currently published papers focus on the acute effect of first wave of COVID-19 pandemic, however, further studies on long-term consequences can make this picture more complex and sophisticated. In this review a summary is provided on the most important results concerning frequency of psychiatric symptoms during the first lockdown of COVID-19. In light of the results it can be stated that psychiatric patients showed more common and more intensive symptoms, the number of relapses is increased and the adherence is reduced. Notably, more than the half of the general population produced measurable psychiatric symptoms. selleck compound Furthermore, a worrying portion of frontline healthcare workers started manifesting mental symptoms.
