Electroactive polymer-peptide conjugates with regard to mastic biointerfaces.
We study the CaM-peptide interactions for four CaM-related peptides with different calcium equivalents, using the hCaM-M124C-mBBr biosensor and Molecular Dynamics (MD). Due to the high sensitivity of the biosensor, we were able to calculate five Kds based on the number of calcium equivalents for each peptide, showing a directly proportional relationship between the degree of calcium saturation and the increased affinity for the Calspermin, nNOS, and skMLSK peptides; while the CaV1.1 peptide has a degree of affinity independent of the number of calcium equivalent. On the other hand, the MD studies were designed based on the experimental results; I) visualizing the effect of the gradual elimination of calcium in Holo-CaM and II) analyzing the CaM-Peptide complexes with and without calcium. We observe that the gradual addition of calcium increases the flexibility of Holo-CaM. Concerning CaM-Peptide complexes, it presents differences in both the ΔGT and the RMSD. These results demonstrate the importance of the use of biosensors and the power of MD to make inferences in systems such as CaM-peptide complexes. This is a short report of an experiment conducted to investigate the effects of phonology-to-orthography (P-O) consistency, lexical frequency, imageability, and the number of strokes on writing-to-dictation in Chinese. Thirty-two undergraduates were tested using a writing-to-dictation task consisting of 60 Chinese characters without homophones (i.e., P-O consistent) and 60 Chinese characters with at least two homophones (i.e., P-O inconsistent), the responses of which were recorded on an Android tablet. Linear mixed-effect modelling was used to investigate the significance of the different effects on three measures-accuracy, response time (RT), and total writing time. The results indicated that imageability was significant in predicting accuracy and RT; P-O consistency was significant in predicting RT and total writing time; the number of strokes was significant in predicting accuracy and total writing time; and the lexical frequency effect was significant in predicting all three measures. In general, the results supported the dual-route account of writing-to-dictation in Chinese and confirmed that both the lexical-semantic and lexical non-semantic pathways are needed to explain writing-to-dictation in Chinese. The significance of the different effects observed in the three measures also indicated the need to include different measures when studying writing-to-dictation to better understand the time course of the writing process. Objective The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (NdYAG) laser with low concentrations of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) or sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) on viability of oral bacteria. Materials and methods Bacterial species Streptococcus gordonii, Porphyromonas gingivalis, and Fusobacterium nucleatum were grown in an anaerobic chamber at 37°C. Samples were irradiated with the NdYAG laser (1064 nm, 300 μm Varian tip) using parameters 150 mJ, 20 Hz, 3 W, 50 sec, and 100 μs short pulse duration in contact mode. Treatment groups included (1) control, (2) NdYAG, (3) 0.5% H2O2, (4) NdYAG and 0.5% H2O2, (5) 0.5% NaOCl, and (6) NdYAG with 0.5% NaOCl. Viable colonies were counted, calculated into colony forming unit/mL, and converted into log form for statistical analysis using a two-tailed paired t-test. Results The combined treatment with the NdYAG and H2O2 showed the greatest reduction in all bacterial viability compared with other treatment groups (p  less then  0.001). Antiseptic solutions and laser were most effective against P. gingivalis, least effective against S. gordonii but improved significantly in combination with laser irradiation (p  less then  0.001). Laser alone was effective against all of three bacterial species, however, it was not significant. Conclusions Combination treatment with NdYAG laser and an oxidative disinfectant (0.5% NaOCl or H2O2) resulted in more effective reduction of bacterial viability than monotherapies. Background The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of complex decongestive physiotherapy (CDP) plus intermittent pneumatic compression (IPC) applications on lower extremity limb circumference and volume in patients with lipedema. Methods and Results In measurement of limb volume and circumference measurement, the Perometer 400 NT was used before and after treatment. The perometer measurements in this study were performed in the certain five reference points (cB, cC, cD, cE, and CF). All participants included in the study were included in a treatment protocol consisting of CDP and IPC. It was seen that statistically significant reduction was found in the circumference of 3 of the 5 points of measurements performed in the left limb, whereas statistically significant reduction was found in the circumference of 4 of the 5 points of measurements performed in the right limb. When the assessments of limb volume performed with the perometer were compared before and after CDP, it was seen that statistically significant reduction was found in the volume of both limbs. Conclusion This reduction indicates that CDP is effective in the treatment of lower extremity lipedema. Objective We compared the outcomes of NS for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)-related diseases with the conventional method using propensity score-matched analysis. Subjects and Methods Among 205 of 328 cases who underwent laparoscopic fundoplication for the first time from June 2008 to December 2019, excluding 115 cases using mesh and 8 cases undergoing reduced port surgery, 25 subjects in the NS group and 25 subjects in the conventional group were extracted upon propensity score matching for six factors age, gender, body mass index, degree of esophageal hiatal hernia, duration of intraesophageal acid reflux, and severity of reflux esophagitis. selleck chemicals Results The NS group used the Toupet method, whereas the conventional group used the Nissen method for 2 cases and the Toupet method for 23 cases. There were no significant differences between them (P = .
