7 Simple Tricks To Totally Intoxicating Your Skoda Key Reset
How to Reset a Skoda Key

I just received a message that my infotainment unit is low on battery and needs to be replaced. This isn't the first time, and the last time I visited an auto shop, they replaced it for free in 2 minutes, and they said it would be working again.

Switch on the ignition and mechanically lock the vehicle. Press the unlock button five times in intervals of 1 second on the remote control. A short horn tone will sound.

Method of EEPROM

If your car key stops working, it may take some time for a professional to reprogramme it. In most cases, this means looking through the EEPROM to find the unique code that is specific to the car. This is a risky process, and there's a good chance of corrupting the information in the module. This is the reason it's best to leave it to an skilled locksmith.

An EEPROM is a non-volatile memory used in many electronic devices, such as car keys. More stores information that includes the unique authentication codes and encryption keys that your vehicle recognises when you use it to unlock or start the car. These codes are crucial because they inform your car that you are the owner of the key and have permission to drive.

If your EEPROM is damaged, the keys will stop working. The problem can be caused by pressing the wrong key or accidentally hitting the wrong key. You could try to reset it by using a specific tool, however, this method isn't guaranteed to work. It's better to use an expert who has years of knowledge of programming automotive keys.

To reset your EEPROM, you must first remove the Kessy module from the vehicle. It is located above the accelerator pedal on the left side of the vehicle. Remove the plastic clip that is holding it in place using the help of a screwdriver. Then, you can unplug the two electrical connectors and pull it out of the vehicle. Then, you can access the EEPROM using a SOIC8 or micro pincers that are connected to a programmer. Once you have all the data, you can save the file and then write it back into the EEPROM.

You can utilize a program like PonyProg to read the EEPROM data. Click on Read Device. The EEPROM dump appears as a hexadecimal array of characters. Three hex values stand out that are key_code (key_code), the key_count (key_count) and the V_ARG_ENABLED. To "virginize" the chip, change all other hex values from 00. Once you have done this you are able to flash the chip and restore its functionality.

Ignition Method

This method uses another key to activate the car's system. It isn't applicable to all vehicles however it should be able to reset the key fob in case it isn't working properly or the battery is dying. It will also work when the buttons have been pushed hard (a frequent cause is pressing down the unlock button several times).

To use this method to use this method, turn on the ignition and then leave it on. Next make sure that the driver's door is locked of the vehicle with the second key. Then, put the key fob in the lock position and point it to the transmitter for transmission on the front of the car, just above the mirror. Press and hold the unlock button for a few seconds. The horn will sound, and the key fob will start to work.

If the skoda keys fail to work, it could be that the transmitter inside has become corrupted or is not in alignment with the vehicle's security system. This will require reprogramming. A locksmith technician or auto locksmith can assist you in this.

If the key fob is not working after reprogramming, it may be that the car has "forgotten" the key (if the car hasn't been used for six months). It is still possible to try a resync procedure in the user manual - take off the driver's door lock cap and lock, then unlock the car with the key. It should be able to re-synchronize the key, if not, you'll need to visit the dealer. This normally works on keys that have lost their function and takes less than two minutes to complete.

Keyless Entry Method

The latest generation of keyless entry systems - like the kind supplied with modern OCTAVIA and electric ENYAQ iV cars - comes with an innovative security feature that blocks thieves from "signal extension". A signal is sent to the vehicle and then to the key, which must reply within a specific time. If the key doesn't reply the car can't be unlocked. It will start to sound alarms.

A sensor located in the handle of the door can be used to notify the car that the key is in close proximity. This works by sending a signal to the key's internal coil, which in turn, responds by sending the signal to the sensor. If the sensor detects this, the car is able to unlock itself and can turn on the interior lights if set up to do so.

Even older keyless entry systems have a backup. If the remote doesn't work, you may open the driver's door mechanically by slipping out the blade or, with certain models, by pressing down on a button in the door pocket. This method is particularly helpful in the event that your key's battery is dead or you have lost it.

Remote Control Method

If you've just purchased an entirely new remote control but it's not working in your car, it's likely that the seller didn't set it up to match your car. It could also be because the terminals of the battery are loose (look for this, they may feel a bit loose to the touch and may be soldered in place) It is important to carefully solder them back into place will bring your key fob back to full working order. If you are not comfortable with this type of repair, seek out an expert auto electrician.

Turn off the ignition, and then lock the vehicle from the inside using a second key that is not compatible (this will reset memory position 1). Enter channel "01" (may be channel "21" in some Audi models). Insert the new keyfob into the driver's door and press the unlock button two times in less than 5 seconds.

Repeat this process for up to four additional remote controls - be sure to switch off the ignition between programming each remote. You should hear a tone each time you successfully program the remote.
