Little is known, however, about researchers' actual text recycling practices. We report here on a computational analysis of text recycling in published research articles in STEM disciplines. Using a tool we created in R, we analyze a corpus of 400 published articles from 80 federally funded research projects across eight disciplinary clusters. According to our analysis, STEM research groups frequently recycle some material from their previously published articles. On average, papers in our corpus contained about three recycled sentences per article, though a minority of research teams (around 15%) recycled substantially more content. These findings were generally consistent across STEM disciplines. We also find evidence that researchers superficially alter recycled prose much more often than recycling it verbatim. Based on our findings, which suggest that recycling some amount of material is normative in STEM research writing, researchers and editors would benefit from more appropriate and explicit guidance about what constitutes legitimate practice and how authors should report the presence of recycled material.Identifying common genetic variations that are related to sudden cardiac death (SCD) is crucial since it can facilitate the diagnosis and risk stratification of SCD. It has been reported that COX10 mutations might be related with SCD. In this study, we performed a systematic variant screening on the COX10 to filter potential functional genetic variations. Based on the screening results, an insertion/deletion polymorphism (rs397763766) in 3'untranslated regions of COX10 was selected as the candidate variant. We conducted a case-control study to investigate the association between rs397763766 and SCD susceptibility in Chinese populations. Logistic regression analysis showed that the deletion allele of rs397763766 was associated with an increased risk for SCD (odds ratio = 1.61, 95% confidence interval = 1.25-2.07, p = 1.87 × 10-4) susceptibility than insertion allele. Further genotype-phenotype analysis using human cardiac tissue samples suggested that COX10 expression level in genotypes containing deletion allele was higher than that in ins/ins genotype. The results were further reinforced by RNA sequencing data from 1000 Genomes Project. Luciferase activity assay indicated that COX10 expression could be regulated by rs397763766 through interfering binding with miR-15b, thus conferring risk of SCD. In conclusion, the novel rs397763766 polymorphism might be a potential marker for molecular diagnosis and genetic counseling of SCD.
To evaluate the missed opportunities for vaccination (MOV) in Zhejiang province by using the global methodology from World Health Organization (WHO).

Based on the WHO Planning Guide to Reduce Missed Opportunities for Vaccination (MOV) and Methodology for the Assessment of MOV, 33 health facilities from 11 cities in Zhejiang province were selected. For each health facility, exit investigations for 20 caregivers of children aged 0-23months and knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) surveys for 10 health workers was implemented. A MOV was determined based on the child's age on the date of investigation, eligibility for various vaccines. The prevalence of MOV was calculated and the risk factors of MOV were explored.

There were 660 completed exit investigations of caregivers of children aged 0-23months and 330 health worker KAP investigations. Of the 658 children with documented vaccination records, 12.6% were still under-vaccinated. Among these under-vaccinated children, 54.2% still had a MOV. Children's age and their previous vaccination behavior, as well as caregivers' relationship to children and education level had a significant impact on the incidence of MOV.

The high proportions of visits with MOV in Zhejiang province suggested that interventions to reduce MOV in health service settings may be a potential quick win for improving coverage and equity. National immunization programs should explore the tailored efforts to improve health worker practices by making better use of existing health service contacts.

This study explored whether findings from studies of links between masculinity and health-related behavior in developed 'western' contexts applied in the more strongly patriarchal cultural context of Pakistan. Online questionnaires were completed by male university students aged 17-30 307 in Pakistan and 105 in the United Kingdom. Analyses revealed that compared to British men, Pakistani respondents had less egalitarian beliefs about gender relations, gave more importance to their own masculinity, considered non-traditional behaviors to have greater negative implications for men's masculinity, and were less willing to seek help. Among Pakistani men, lower willingness to seek help for physical and mental health was predicted by having less egalitarian gender beliefs, giving greater importance to personal masculinity, and considering non-traditional behaviors to have greater negative implications for men's masculinity. Among British men, greater perceived masculinity of help seeking predicted help seeking for physical concerns, and less importance of personal masculinity predicted help seeking for mental health. The results highlight a need for sensitivity to men's gender identity concerns when providing and encouraging use of health care, and to be aware of how cultural norms shape individuals' beliefs and behavior.
