To study the documentation of relevant components of forensic history on admission form for male patients admitted in psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU)/OAK ward of Phoenix Care Center.

Psychiatric intensive care unit/OAK ward of Phoenix Care Center, from August 2019 to July 2020.

Charts of all patients admitted in PICU from August 2019 to July 2020 were analysed, and admission forms were reviewed for documentation of relevant parameters of forensic history. A structured tool was made after literature search, which included drug and alcohol history, history of assaults, protection/barring orders, number of previous PICU admissions, previous charges, pending charges, use of depot medications and previous encounters with police without pending charges.

A total of 50 patients were admitted during the given time period. Drug and alcohol history was documented in 98% of the cases, previous charges were documented in 88% of the cases, protection/baring order was documented in 62% of the cases, while previous encounter with the police without being charged was documented in only 32% of the cases.

To determine the accuracy of the thermal imaging camera for the detection of vascular insult before the onset of permanent tissue damage.

Descriptive study.

Department of Burn and Plastic Surgery, from July to December 2019.

The thermal image was used as an adjunct to clinical assessment in 84 flaps. Both pedicled and free flaps were performed in the study with a frequency of 68 (81%) and 16 (19%), respectively. Flap monitoring was performed regularly for five days by same team of surgeons and nurses. Flap vascularity was assessed by temperature gradient colour coding of thermal image taking the clinical assessment like colour, temperature, capillary refill, as a gold standard. Sensitivity and specificity of the thermal camera were calculated.

The age range of patients was from 5 years to 55 years. The diagnostic accuracy of thermal imaging camera was calculated to be 96.43% with a sensitivity of 98.7%, specificity of 75%. The positive predictive value was found to be 97.4%, negative predictive value was 85.7%, the false-negative value was 14.3%, and the false-positive value was 2.6%.

To compare the therapeutic effects and olfactory function of oral glucocorticoid and intranasal glucocorticoid in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) with nasal polyps.

Suzhou Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, from January 2018 to November 2019.

One hundred and twenty-two CRS patients with nasal polyps were randomly divided into Group A and Group B with 61 cases in each group. Group A received local application of glucocorticoid (dexamethasone) after nasal endoscopic surgery. Group B received oral glucocorticoid (prednisone) one week before operation and three weeks after operation. Clinical effects of the two groups were compared.

Total effective rate of Group B was higher than that of Group A (p=0. 023), recurrence rate in Group B was lower than that in Group A (p=0.015). Nasal airway resistance and olfactory function scores of Group B were lower than those of Group A at one month, three months and six months after operation (all p <0.001). There was no difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (p=0. 649).

Compared with intranasal glucocorticoid, oral glucocorticoid can obviously improve the therapeutic effect and olfactory function of patients, and the postoperative recurrence rate is lower. Key Words Sinusitis, Nasal polyps, Endoscopic sinus surgery, Glucocorticoid.

To measure impact of oral health in complete denture wearers and its effects on masticatory efficiency with new complete dentures over the period of three months.

Experimental study design.

Department of Prosthodontics, Bahria University Medical and Dental College, Karachi, Pakistan from September 2019 to December-2019.

Oral health impact profile (OHIP) was used to measure the oral health impact; and chewing gum method was used to measure the masticatory efficiency in this study. All participants were old denture wearers having the experience of at least 3 years and requiring new set of complete dentures. A total of 31 patients were asked to chew the gum from the routine site of mastication for 20 seconds. The weight reduction corresponded to the masticatory efficiency. The OHIP-14 score and masticatory efficiency was recorded at baseline and after three months of complete denture treatment. The data was analysed on SPSS version 23.

The average values of masticatory efficiency were significantly redl health impact profile-14 (OHIP-14).

In total, 2,312 articles were obtained. After reviewing the articles, 33 articles covering 3500 patients meeting the inclusion criteria were included. The results pointed out that there was a relationship between preoperative hemoglobin A1c levels and mediastinitis, stroke, pneumonia, sepsis, renal failure and mortality. Heterogeneity was observed for myocardial infarction, atrial fibrillation and multiorgan failure (I2 >25%).
