Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is known to be related to an elevated risk of infections because of its pathobiology and the use of immunosuppressive therapies. Reactivation of latent tuberculosis (TB) infection is a serious issue in patients with RA, especially after receiving anti-TNFs therapy. TNF blocking reinforces the TB granuloma formation and maintenance and the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb). After intercurrent of TB infection, the standard recommendation is that the treatment with TNF inhibitors to be withheld despite its impressive effect on suppression of inflammation until the infection has resolved. Knowing pathways and mechanisms that are common between two diseases might help to find the mechanistic basis of this comorbidity, as well as provide us a new approach to apply them as therapeutic targets or diagnostic biomarkers. GRL0617 Also, screening for latent TB before initiation of an anti-TNF therapy can minimize complications. This review summarizes the shared gene signature between TB and RA and discusses the biomarkers for early detection of this infection, and screening procedures as well.Fibrosis is the end stage of many chronic diseases, which results in organ function failure and high mortality. Mangiferin is a major constituent in mango and other 16 plants, and has been shown a variety of pharmacological effects, such as antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-tumor, anti-inflammation. The emerging evidence has shown that mangiferin can improve renal interstitial fibrosis, pulmonary fibrosis, myocardial fibrosis and hepatic fibrosis through the inhibition of inflammation, oxidative stress and fibrogenesis effects, indicating that mangiferin is promising therapeutic choice for organ fibrosis. The aim of this review is to summarize the therapeutic effects of mangiferin on fibrosis of various organs and the underlying mechanisms.
This study was conducted to compare the plaque control effectiveness of rubber cup polishing with that of air polishing during oral prophylaxis procedures and to investigate the effect of the order of air-polishing application on the efficiency of oral prophylaxis.

The study included adult patients (≥20years of age) who had visited the dental clinic for oral prophylaxis. A total of 173 subjects were divided into three groups (scaling followed by rubber cup polishing, SR; scaling followed by air polishing, SA; and air polishing followed by scaling, AS) based on sex, age, oral health status, oral hygiene status, and indications and contraindications according to the oral prophylaxis method. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to determine the difference in oral prophylaxis time, residual deposits rate, subjects and dental hygienist satisfaction.

The total scaling time was shorter in the AS group (15.4±6.9 minutes) than in the SA (18.7±5.5 minutes) and SR groups (19.9±6.2 minutes) (p<0.05). The rate of residual deposits was significantly higher in the SR group than in the AS or SA groups (p<0.05). The satisfaction level of dental hygienists was higher in the AS group (8.8±1.0 points) and the SA group (8.4±1.0 points) than in the SR group (6.2±1.3 points).

During oral prophylaxis, dental plaque removal using air polishing requires a relatively longer time when compared to rubber cup polishing, but it can better eliminate dental plaque. In addition, we found that dental plaque removal using air polishing prior to scaling reduced the total scaling time.

During 2016-2020, the United States experienced person-to-person hepatitis A outbreaks that are unprecedented in the vaccine era, during which case-fatality ratios reported by some jurisdictions exceeded those historically associated with hepatitis A.

To identify factors associated with hepatitis A-related mortality, we performed a matched case-control study (matched on age [±5years] and county of residence in a 14 ratio) using data collected from health department and hospital medical records of outbreak-associated patients in Kentucky, Michigan, and West Virginia. Controls were hepatitis A outbreak-associated patients who did not die. There were 110 cases (mean age 53.6years) and 414 matched controls (mean age 51.9years); most cases (68.2%) and controls (63.8%) were male. Significantly (P<0.05) higher odds of mortality were associated with preexisting nonviral liver disease (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 5.2), history of hepatitis B (aOR, 2.4), diabetes (aOR, 2.2), and cardiovascular disease (aOR, 2.2),se, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and initial MELD score ≥ 30, AST/ALT ratio ≥ 1, and platelet count less then 150,000/μL among hepatitis A patients were independently associated with higher odds of mortality. Providers should be vigilant for such features and have a low threshold to escalate care and consider consultation for liver transplantation. Our findings support the recommendation of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices to vaccinate persons with chronic liver disease, though future recommendations to include adults with diabetes and cardiovascular disease should be considered.
This study sought to assess dental students' training and experiences in addressing traumatic dental injury (TDI), and, more specifically, their knowledge of TDI management in children.

All Year 1 to Year 5 dental students (n=413; response rate=72.9%) were invited to participate in an online, self-administered survey, which was based on a validated questionnaire. Quantitative data were analysed via chi-squared test (p<.05) using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software program.

Only a few students were found to have undergone first-aid training in TDI (19.3%) and to have encountered TDI incidents (10.6%) before. Almost all preclinical and clinical students agreed that TDI constitutes an emergency (97.8% vs. 99.4%, respectively) and that tooth avulsion requires immediate care (97.1% vs. 99.0%, respectively). However, almost half of the students (48.8%) did not know the management protocols for a fractured tooth. Compared with clinical students, a significantly lower percentage of those in preclinical study knew the following (1) the main cause of TDI, (2) the teeth that most commonly experience avulsion, (3) the management protocols for an avulsed tooth (e.
