The nurse obtained at least one successful app measurement for 93% of children (125/133). 40 were flagged for PACT, of which 6 were confirmed to have strabismus, including 4 exotropia (10△, 10△, 14△ and 18△), 1 constant esotropia (25△) and 1 accommodative esotropia (14△). Based on the ROC curve, the optimum threshold for the app to detect strabismus was determined to be 3.0△, with the best sensitivity (83.0%), specificity (76.5%). check details With this threshold the app would have missed one child with accommodative esotriopia, whereas conventional screening missed 3 cases of intermittent extropia.
Results support feasibility of use of the app by personnel without professional training in routine school screenings to improve detection of strabismus.

Retroperitoneal fibrosis (RPF) is a rare disease with a poor prognosis characterized by systemic inflammation and fibroinflammatory tissue. Idiopathic RPF (IRPF) accounts for approximately two-thirds of RPF cases.
A 56-year-old female patient with abdominal distension was admitted to Changxing Hospital. Laboratory tests revealed mild anemia and elevated CA125, while IgG4 and autoantibodies were within the normal ranges. Computed tomography (CT) revealed a gallbladder-occupying lesion, pancreatic cyst and retroperitoneal mass, which may have contributed to bilateral ureteral compression and hydronephrosis. The initial diagnosis was gallbladder carcinoma with lymph node metastasis. Then, abdominal adhesiolysis, cholecystectomy and partial hepatectomy were performed. Histologically, there were fibrosis and inflammation in the retroperitoneal tissue without any malignant cells in the retroperitoneal or gallbladder tissue. Finally, we confirmed the diagnosis of idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis, chronic cholecystitis and pancreatic cyst. The patient recovered well following the CT scan, in which dilatation of the bile duct was reduced, and effusion of the bilateral upper ureter was no longer significant.
This atypical case illustrates that RPF can be combined with other biliary tract diseases. The coexistence of other diseases conceals the symptoms of RPF, which increases the difficulty of image identification. A high degree of suspicion is necessary for routine clinical work. As more cases are reported, further advances in the diagnosis and treatment of RPF can be expected.

To assess the diagnostic capability of novel Bruch's membrane opening (BMO)-based disc parameters, the BMO-minimum rim width (BMO-MRW) and the BMO-minimum rim area (BMO-MRA) in the Chinese population and compare them to the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) from optical coherence tomography (OCT) and the rim area (RA) from the Heidelberg retinal tomograph-III (HRT-III).
In total, 200 eyes of 77 healthy and 123 primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) subjects were included in this cross-sectional study. All participants underwent the visual field test and structural measurements by OCT and HRT-III. The areas under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUCs) of different structural parameters were calculated to assess their diagnostic power and compared using the DeLong test.
In populations with different characteristics, the BMO-MRW and BMO-MRA had better diagnostic power than the RA. In discriminating between all POAG subjects and healthy controls and between early-stage patients and controls, the global BMO-MRW had comparable AUCs with the RNFL, but the BMO-MRA had lower AUCs than the RNFL. In healthy subjects with macrodiscs, both the global and sectoral BMO-MRW were thinner than those in healthy subjects with normal disc size. The AUCs of BMO-MRA, BMO-MRW and RNFL in subjects with macrodiscs were comparable. Additionally, in the myopic population, the BMO-MRA and BMO-MRW had comparable AUCs with the RNFL.
The BMO-MRW had comparable diagnostic power with the RNFL, and compared with BMO-MRW, the BMO-MRA might have advantages in certain populations, such as macrodiscs. All OCT-derived parameters exceeded the RA in diagnostic capability.

Methamphetamine (MA) use has been shown to be associated with deficits in impulsivity, verbal learning, and working memory. Additionally, methamphetamine use disorder (MUD) is related to various brain changes, especially in adolescent users who might be more vulnerable to detrimental effects on brain development. However, little is known about the relationship between adolescent MA use and cognitive impairment. This cross-sectional study aims to explore how the presence of a MUD in adolescents is related to impairments of verbal memory, inhibition, and alertness.
N= 18 psychiatric outpatients with MUD were matched in terms of depressivity, age, and gender to n= 18 adolescents with other substance use disorders (SUDs), as well as n= 18 controls without SUDs. We compared these three groups on the Verbal Learning and Memory Task (VLMT), and the alertness and go/noGo subtests of the Test of Attentional Performance (TAP). Additionally, Spearman's rank order correlation coefficients were calculated to investigaA use. Future research should apply longitudinal designs to investigate long-term effects of methamphetamine and reversibility of these effects on cognitive functioning.
Adolescent MUD outpatients with regular MA use show specific impairment in verbal learning performance, but not in other basal cognitive functions when compared to adolescents without a MUD. Verbal learning and short-term memory performance is negatively associated with the frequency of MA use. Future research should apply longitudinal designs to investigate long-term effects of methamphetamine and reversibility of these effects on cognitive functioning.
