A study was conducted by Gill and Englert (2013) to determine music intervention on falls.The study conducted was a quasi-experimental 1-group time-series on a 55-bed dementia unit. Falls were recorded for 4 3-month periods. There was no significant difference found however, it is shown preponderance of relaxing music can allay agitation in the demented patients. The patients were singing and tapping their feet inline to the beat of the music, this indicated that they have become actively engaged. The staff described some of the patients as “soothed” due to their calmness.
Secondly, a randomised controlled trial conducted by Lin et al., (2011) discovered that group music intervention diminished agitated behaviour in elderly with dementia.The study had a sample size size of 100 participants which was selected in three nursing homes in Taiwan.After the group music intervention,the group music intervention showed better performance at the 6th and 12th session and one month after the cessation of the intervention.There was a reduction in agitation in general with lower CMAI result.
