Libraries have successfully implemented CCD projects of various types, and as a result, have achieved these needed cost savings. The authors conducted survey research to investigate current CCD activities and librarians' perceptions of its benefits, drawbacks, elements contributing to successful CCD programs, and possible obstacles to success. Library collections consist of a variety of material formats and librarians have applied CCD models to maintain needed access to these resources, shifting from ownership to access, all in support of building collective collections. The survey results found that, although challenges can exist, application of CCD activities have realized substantial benefits, financial and otherwise, for academic libraries overall.Many studies have attempted to measure the workplace morale of academic librarians through related variables such as job satisfaction. Other studies have taken a qualitative or phenomenological approach to understanding workplace morale. This exploratory study has two objectives (1) to quantitatively measure the workplace morale of academic librarians to set an initial baseline measure for future research and (2) to analyze the variables that impact academic librarian morale with an emphasis on the variables that academic library supervisors directly influence. Findings suggest the workplace morale of academic librarians is predicted by several variables within a supervisor's influence including feedback, work autonomy, and supervisor qualities such as communication, transparency, and empowering subordinates. Outside of a small negative relationship to age and work experience, demographics were largely found to not be a predictor of workplace morale. This study also evaluated workplace morale as a predictor of turnover intention in academic librarians. There was a strong statistically significant negative correlation between workplace morale and the turnover intention of academic librarians.A 32-year-old previously healthy woman was referred for evaluation and management of newly diagnosed hypotony in the right eye. Her ocular history was significant only for moderate myopia and an idiopathic Horner syndrome in the left eye diagnosed at age 13. The patient endorsed a history of fluctuating and decreasing vision in the right eye over the past 6 months. She denied any ocular pain, previous ocular surgery, or recent trauma. The patient was otherwise healthy and denied any previous autoimmune disease or systemic infection. She wore soft, daily disposable contact lenses and reported no abnormalities on previous routine eye examinations. At presentation, the patient's uncorrected distance visual acuity was 20/25 in the right eye and 20/200 in the left. Lensometry revealed a previous refraction of -3.00 + 0.50× 150 in the right eye and -4.00 + 1.75× 174 in the left. Optimizing care continuum entry interventions is key to ending the HIV epidemic. Offering HIV screening to key populations in emergency departments is a strategy that has been demonstrated to be effective. Analyzing patient and provider perceptions of such screening can help identify implementation facilitators and barriers.

To investigate the acceptability of offering nurse-driven HIV screening to key populations based on data collected from patients, nurses, and other service providers.

This convergent mixed methods study was a substudy of a cluster-randomized two-period crossover trial conducted in eight emergency departments to evaluate the effectiveness of the screening strategy. During the trial, questionnaires were distributed to patients aged 18-64. Based on their responses, nurses offered screening to members of key populations.Over 5 days during the intervention period in four emergency departments, 218 patients were secondarily questioned about the acceptability of screening. Nurses completedlong-term implementation, and implementation barriers. Nurses were favorable to such screening provided specific conditions were met regarding training, support, collective involvement, and flexibility of application to overcome organizational and individual barriers.

Screening for key populations was perceived as acceptable and beneficial by patients and providers. Addressing the identified facilitators and barriers would help increase screening implementation in EDs.
