60%). The high surface area and high electrical conductivity of GO_MWCNTs prolonged the lifetime of electron/hole separation and thus enhanced the photocatalytic performance.Soil fumigation using 1,3-dichloropropene (1,3-D) and chloropicrin (CP) is an important strategy for agriculture production; however, excessive emissions can cause air pollution and possible human exposure. In this study, solar light-driven CuInS2/ZnSAl-TiO2 photocatalytic film was prepared through spin-coating on the flexible polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate of 0.1 mm. Using the photocatalytic film, degradation of 1,3-D was inhibited in the Pci-clor 60 formulation of 1,3-D and CP. However, the degradation of CP was accelerated in this formulation, and the half-life was shortened from 0.66 to 0.40 h. Emissions of 1,3-D from soil to the air were reduced by 97.30%, 97.17%, 47.10%, and 7.88%, for treatments of D + Film, D + C + Film, D + PET, and D, respectively. The efficiencies for reducing 1,3-D emission were significantly improved by about 1.1 and 11.3 times using the film, compared with using the PET alone and no film, respectively. Furthermore, fumigation effects on nematodes could still achieve higher than 90%. The findings provided a basis for the practical application of quantum dot films to reduce soil fumigants emissions by photocatalytic degradation.Underground cutoff walls are useful in conserving groundwater and preventing seawater intrusion in coastal regions. However, the environmental effects of human activities on groundwater quality in the upstream area of the underground cutoff wall over the long term are not clear. In this study, combined analysis of multiple isotopes (δ15N-NO3-, δ18O-NO3-, δ2H, and δ18O-H2O) and nitrate concentrations was used to assess the effect of underground cutoff walls on nitrogen dynamics in groundwater in an agricultural area in China. We sampled groundwater wells in the upstream and downstream areas of the underground walls in April, July, and September. The results indicated that the underground cutoff walls hampered the horizontal groundwater flow, making the upstream groundwater a closed system, which led to an increase in the nitrate concentration and accelerated nitrification processes. Manure was the main nitrate source in the upstream groundwater, and its levels in the groundwater were similar during the three seasons, indicating that there was no difference in the nitrate sources in the upstream groundwater among the three seasons. Hence, further management measures for manure application may be critical for groundwater protection in the upstream area of underground cutoff walls.Chalcogenide nanostructures are the materials with diverse applications. Here, we report rapid hydrothermal synthesis of crystalline ZnSe quantum dots (QDs), avoiding the use of toxic chemicals. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/bmn-673.html To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on very rapid (5 h) hydrothermal synthesis of pristine ZnSe QDs. Elemental selenium is used as a source for selenium. Structural, morphological, compositional, and optical properties of the semiconductor were studied. Structural properties (X-ray diffraction) demonstrate that the particles have grown in a single cubic phase. Morphological studies show formation of agglomerated QDs (4 nm). The material possess stoichiometric ratio of the constituent elements that are uniformly distributed. Selected area electron diffraction (SAED) study indicated the material is polycrystalline in nature. Optical properties demonstrated that the QDs are suitable for optoelectronic devices exhibiting room temperature photoluminescence. Commission Internationale de l'Éclairage (CIE) chromaticity diagram shows the material exhibits violet emission and hence suitable for violet LEDs that have potential ability in clinical applications.Geothermal energy is considered environmentally friendly than fossil fuel sources, and geothermal power plants are expected to have a low carbon footprint. It is renewable that can last million years. There exist, however, several gases stored under the earth's surface which are released into the atmosphere during digging (TWI 2020). This research paper aims at monitoring the potential positive and negative effects of geothermal on environmental quality (CO2 emissions) in the USA for the period January 1980 to August 2019. The paper employed wavelet and partial wavelet coherence computations to explore the impacts of geothermal energy usage on the environment. The concluding remarks from the estimations can be classified into short-term (1-3-year cycle) results and long-term (3-8-year cycle) results. It is found in the short term that (i) geothermal usage increased CO2 emissions during 1980-1983 and 1993-1997 and (ii) CO2 emissions caused geothermal usage to increase for the period 2000-2009 and after 2015. The paper reveals also that in the long term, (a) geothermal energy consumption increased CO2 emissions during the periods 1985-1990, 1993-1996, and 2013-2016 and (b) geothermal energy consumption decreased CO2 emissions for the period 1996-2008 in the USA. This research work eventually yields some relevant geothermal energy policy suggestions for US policymakers to make geothermal more environmentally friendly.Research indicates that air pollution is a risk factor of an increased occurrence of diseases. However, evidence is limited on the effects of the pollution index on disease and whether temperature modifies the effects. The objectives were (i) to explore the effects of the Air Pollution Index (API) and specific indices for pollutants (PM10, NO2, and SO2) on respiratory emergency department (ED) visits in Beijing and (ii) to investigate whether temperature modified the effects of main air pollutants on respiratory ED visits. A quasi-Poisson generalized additive model was employed to examine the association of API and indices for pollutants with respiratory disease. Bivariate response surface model and stratification model (cold days, moderately cold days, moderately hot days, and hot days) were used to analyze the modification effects of temperature on air pollution and respiratory disease. The results showed that (i) the effects of API on respiratory diseases were similar to the index for PM10 in Beijing. (ii) API and PM10 were associated with increased respiratory ED visits on cold days and moderately cold days.
