Pierson syndrome is a rare genetic disease defined by congenital nephrotic syndrome in association with microcoria. The authors aim to describe the posterior segment and retinal features in Pierson syndrome.

A retrospective chart review of nine patients diagnosed with Pierson syndrome was ascertained. Details of ophthalmic history, ocular examination, retinal imaging, and surgical interventions were obtained during a median duration of 17 months of follow-up (range 6 to 60 months). Retinal interventions included scatter laser photocoagulation and surgical retinal repair.

Sixteen eyes of nine patients were included. The axial length of five eyes with flat retina was 26.59 mm ± 0.99 mm. Highly myopic features including tessellated fundus with accompanying optic disc pallor, unidentifiable cup, and abnormal retinal vascular emanation from the disc were observed in all eyes (100%), whereas 12 eyes (75%) had parapapillary chorioretinal atrophy. Features of abnormal retinal vascularization included avascular 020;51618-627.].
To report the long-term anatomic and visual outcomes of patients with Stickler syndrome undergoing retinal detachment (RD) surgery.

Retrospective, interventional, consecutive case series of patients with Stickler syndrome undergoing RD repair from 1999 to 2017 at the Long Island Vitreoretinal Consultants, New York. Retinal attachment status and visual acuity (VA) at 1-year and last follow-up were assessed.

Successful reattachment was achieved in 28 of 29 eyes (97%) with an average of 2.3 surgeries (including silicone oil removal surgeries). Redetachment after the first surgery occurred in 13 eyes (45%). Mean Snellen VA at initial presentation, 1-year follow-up, and last follow-up were 20/289, 20/118 (P = .012), and 20/103 (P = .022), respectively.

Anatomic success can be achieved in most eyes. However, redetachments are common, and multiple surgeries are often required. Reasonable visual recovery is possible in many eyes. [Ophthalmic Surg Lasers Imaging Retina. 2020;51612-616.].

[Ophthalmic Surg Lasers Imaging Retina. 2020;51612-616.].Medication non-adherence (MNA) constitutes a complex health problem contributing to increased economic burden and poor health outcomes. CDK4/6-IN-6 mouse The Medication Adherence Model (MAM) supports that numerous processes are involved in medication adherence (MA). Based on the MAM and guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO), this scoping review aimed to identify the barriers and facilitators associated with MA, and the behavioral health interventions and techniques among chronic conditions presenting with high non-adherence rates (asthma, cancer, diabetes, epilepsy, HIV/AIDS, and hypertension). PubMed, PsycINFO, and Scopus databases were screened, and 243 studies were included. A mixed methods approach was used to collate the evidence and interpret findings. The most commonly reported barriers to MA across conditions were younger age, low education, low income, high medication cost, side effects, patient beliefs/perceptions, comorbidities, and poor patient-provider communication. Additionally, digitally delivered interventions including components such as medication and condition education, motivational interviewing (MI), and reinforcement and motivational messages led to improvements in MA. This review highlights the importance of administrating multicomponent interventions digitally and personalized to the patients' individual needs and characteristics, responding to the adherence barriers faced. This is the first review examining and synthesizing evidence on barriers and facilitators to MA and behavioral health interventions used for improving MA across chronic conditions with the highest non-adherence rates and providing recommendations to researchers and clinicians. Stakeholders are called to explore methods overcoming barriers identified and developing effective multicomponent interventions that can reduce the high rates of MNA.
Positioning of implant components for total hip arthroplasty (THA) is important for polyethylene liner wear, prosthesis joint stability, and range of motion. The introduction of fluoroscopy for the direct anterior approach has been shown to improve physician accuracy for component positioning. Few studies compare the use of intraoperative fluoroscopy for THA component positioning in posterior THA. The purpose of this project is to retrospectively evaluate the effect of intraoperative fluoroscopy on component positioning for THA using posterior and direct anterior approach (DAA).

A retrospective review of postoperative weight-bearing X-ray films of THAs was performed over a 2-year period where a single fellowship-trained total joint surgeon introduced direct anterior approach into his practice while expanding the intraoperative use of fluoroscopy for all THA procedures, regardless of approach. Component position was evaluated through radiographic measurement of acetabular cup inclination (goal of 40 degreeapproach without fluoroscopy showed improvement in cup inclination (48 degrees vs 50 degrees, P < .05). Fluoroscopy with posterior approach versus fluoroscopy with DAA was found to have improved cup inclination (44 degrees vs 48 degrees, P < .05).

Intraoperative use of fluoroscopy can improve component positioning for posterior THA.

Therefore, we update the Protein Interaction Network Analysis (PINA) platform to version 3.0, to integrate the unified human interactome with RNA-seq transcriptomes and mass spectrometry-based proteomes across tens of cancer types. A number of new analytical utilities were developed to help characterize the cancer context for a PPI network, which includes inferring proteins with expression specificity and identifying candidate prognosis biomarkers, putative cancer drivers, and therapeutic targets for a specific cancer type; as well as identifying pairs of co-expressing interacting proteins across cancer types. Furthermore, a brand-new web interface has been designed to integrate these new utilities within an interactive network visualization environment, which allows users to quickly and comprehensively investigate the roles of human interacting proteins in a cancer type-specific context.
