How to Choose the Best Hob
There are many factors to consider when choosing the ideal hob, ranging from price to energy efficiency. Determine which features are the most important.
A basic electric ceramic stove can cost as little as PS100 However, you'll need to spend more for a feature-packed model. Gas hobs, also popular and offer great temperature control, but are expensive, are a different alternative.
1. Haier I-Flex Induction Hob
With four cooking zones and three functions called 'Push&Go', this cooker from Haier can help you make quick meals. It was also one of the fastest tests to boil water, taking less than four minutes. It comes with the child lock as well as a an pause feature, so you can stop the process swiftly without having to mess with controls.
Its style is modern and sleek it blends seamlessly with contemporary kitchens. It is usually made of glass (which is shatterproof and heatproof) or ceramic. The controls are touch-sensitive, and they sit flush on the worktop.
The controls are easy to use and we liked the clear display that informs you the current power settings and which of the five zones are in use. The 'Boost' feature produces high-powered heat for a brief period of time, and is perfect for stir-frying or bringing pans of water to a boil quickly. Safety features like the hot hob light or automatic shutdown are also beneficial.
However it's not as responsive to touch as some other hobs in this test. We found it took nine presses on the control to reach the highest temperature, compared with six or seven on other models. It also takes longer for the pan to react when you change the temperature. You may need to adjust the settings several times before you get the proper heat.
This model is 60cm long and has four cooking zones, including a half-flex area where two zones can be joined to accommodate larger pots and pans. Dual-ring design permits it to operate on both "normal" and "boost" power levels. The Boost model is great for frying meat, searing it or bringing pans of water to a rapid boiling point.
It is fully connected through the hOn App, and offers hundreds of recipes, a guide to cooking, and 30 special programs that are divided into different food categories and types of preparation. It features a multislider controls panel with a 'lockable interface' and can detect the type pan you are using to set the proper cooking mode. It is also compatible with hOn pans made by third party companies and has several safety features like the ability to lock the panel and boil-dry prevention.
2. Smeg I-Flex Induction Hob
When you're doing work in your kitchen, or looking for an alternative to gas induction hobs, they are becoming increasingly popular. Prices have plummeted over the past few years, with basic four-zone models available for less than PS100. If you are looking for the most modern induction technology, it's worth paying a bit more.
This sleek model from Smeg features the latest induction technology that makes your cooking energy-efficient and convenient. The unique Auto-pot detection system automatically recognises the position of pots that have minimum diameters of 9cm, which allows you to select the correct zone without having to manually select it.
Smeg's attention to energy savings does not leave out flexibility too This hob is designed to reduce power consumption by adjusting the maximum operating temperature of the zones according to your cooking requirements. There are options to save energy with the Eco-Logic advance mode that reduces the power output from 11.1 kW to as low as 2.4 4 kW.
Testers were awed by this hob's user-friendly interface, with intuitive sliding controls that slide along the edges of the hob to follow the pan. The control panel's colour scheme lets you quickly see the operational status of each zone, while the 'Flexi Duo' function allows you to connect two zones together to accommodate larger pots. There are many useful functions, including four cooking presets for automatic cooking (melting boiling, slow cooking and keeping warm) and a Power Boost to get results that are quick and efficient.
In addition to this the hob also has an 'FlameSensor' feature that alerts you if there is any danger of a burning or burning food. There are other safety features, including a residual heat indicator as well as an automatic shut-off when the surface is too hot.
It also has an anti-corrosive CleanProtect coating to help it resist tough stains and cooking marks. The hob comes with nine power levels as well as a 'FlexiDuo feature' to accommodate large pans and is simple to set up. There are also a number of additional features, including lockable controls and a safety fuse in case of accidental button pushing.
3. Indesit I-Flex Induction Hob
They are powered by electricity, not gas, induction hobs use copper plates that create an electric field when the pan is set on top. This means that they can reach a temperature more quickly than gas hobs. They also save energy as the cooking zone only gets hot when you turn on a pan. They're generally cheaper to run than gas and are simpler to wipe clean too making them a popular choice.
This induction hob from Indesit is packed with features that make it easy to be creative in the kitchen. It has two cooking zones that can be combined to form a Dual Zone for larger pans as well as the Booster Zone is quick to bring water to a boil quickly. The Push&Go feature, for instance, allows you to cook with perfection at the touch a button. And nine power modes that include a 'P boost setting that gives each zone maximum power for five minutes, can be easily selected using the controls, which move along the bottom edge of the hob to track the pans.
The controls are easy to operate and the minimalist design is perfect for a modern kitchen. In our tests it quickly heated up a pan when we put it on the Booster Zone and pasta water that was boiling. However, it took an extended time to cool down after we turned off the hob. Additionally, our testers were unable to determine the precise temperature on the control panel.
Alongside a Dual Zone and Push&Go, the Indesit hob has a useful bridge function that allows you to combine two cooking zones to accommodate larger pans. It also has an overheating and child lock block, as well as an auto switch-off system that stops the hob working when it's overheated. Ceramic glass is easy to clean and there are no visible flames. Our test subjects were pleased with the fact that it's. In contrast to traditional extractor hoods vented hobs draw steam and smoke out of the pan and out of the room via an air duct that is built into the surface. The duct on this hob was easy to clean, however it required two people in order to remove the filter.
4. Induction Hob from GE
When choosing a new hob take a look at how it fits into your kitchen's design and layout, and also your cooking style and your lifestyle. Induction hobs are a great choice for cooking with kids or elderly in mind. They come with safety features like automatic shut-offs as well as a cool-to-touch surface. If you prefer speed and efficiency, an electric hob with a clean ceramic glass facia is a great choice. If ovens hobs ovensandhobs live in areas prone to load-shedding, the ability to use gas hobs during power outages may tilt the balance in favor of gas models.
