We interviewed 14 pharmacists and pharmacy technicians at 4 community pharmacies. We identified 4 factors for success in implementing a naloxone furnishing protocol administrative-led efforts, pharmacist-led efforts, increasing pharmacist engagement, and increasing patient engagement. The respondents also discussed the approaches they used to overcome previously identified barriers cost, time, expectations of unwanted clientele, and patients' feelings of stigma.

Pharmacists' approaches to implementing naloxone furnishing had common features across locations, suggesting many of these strategies could be replicated in other community pharmacies.

Numerous national and international studies have explored the issue of gender disparity in health science-publication rates. However, few have examined publication type (e.g., reviews and original research) and authorship order, which are 2 key factors in contribution recognition and the work's visibility and application.

The objective of this work was to determine the changes in the distribution of women as first authors by publication type over time in pharmacy practice journals.

This was a bibliometric data analysis of pharmacy practice publications from January 2007 through December 2017. We used data from the U.S. Social Security Administration, and the multilingual Genderize application program interface (Genderize.io) to identify the authors' potential gender. To determine the publication type, we used the Web of Science article list (Clarivate Analytics, Philadelphia, PA). The Cochran-Armitage trend test was used to determine the differences over time.

Articles published from January 2007 through December 2017 in 8 pharmacy practice journals were reviewed (N= 14,658 articles) research articles (63.8%), reviews (17.0%), editorial material (11.1%), and letters (8.1%). There was a statistically significant increase in the number of first-authored articles and reviews by women (45.1% to 55.4% and 39.2% to 56.1%, respectively). Selleck Atuveciclib There was not a significant increase in the proportion of women as first authors in editorials or letters over the study period.

Despite increases in research and reviews with women as first authors, there is still a need for increased representation of women in opinion-based publications such as editorials.

To reduce the risk of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) after allogeneic stem cell transplantation (alloSCT), T-cell depletion (TCD) of grafts can be performed by the addition of alemtuzumab (ALT) "to the bag" (in vitro) before transplantation. In this prospective study, the authors analyzed the effect of in vitro incubation with 20 mg ALT on the composition of grafts prior to graft infusion. Furthermore, the authors assessed whether graft composition at the moment of infusion was predictive for T-cell reconstitution and development of GVHD early after TCD alloSCT.

Sixty granulocyte colony-stimulating factor-mobilized stem cell grafts were obtained from ≥9/10 HLA-matched related and unrelated donors. The composition of the grafts was analyzed by flow cytometry before and after in vitro incubation with ALT. T-cell reconstitution and incidence of severe GVHD were monitored until 12 weeks after transplantation.

In vitro incubation of grafts with 20 mg ALT resulted in an initial median depletion efficiency othe bag is an easy, fast and generally applicable strategy to prevent GVHD in patients receiving alloSCT after myeloablative or non-myeloablative conditioning because of the efficient differential depletion of donor-derived lymphocytes and T cells.Humans and crown catarrhines evolved with the inability to synthesize the oligosaccharide galactose-α-1,3-galactose (α-Gal). In turn, they naturally produce high quantities of the glycan-specific antibodies that can be protective against infectious agents exhibiting the same carbohydrate modification on their surface coat. The protective immunity induced by α-Gal is ensured through an antibody-mediated adaptive and cell-mediated innate immune response. Therefore, the α-Gal antigen represents an attractive and feasible target for developing glycan-based vaccines against multiple diseases. In this review article we provide an insight into our current understanding of the mechanisms involved in the protective immunity to α-Gal and discuss the possibilities and challenges in developing a single-antigen pan-vaccine for prevention and control of parasitic diseases of medical and veterinary concern.
Radiation dose variation within and among Computed Tomography (CT) centres is commonly reported. This work systematically reviewed published articles on adult Diagnostic Reference Levels (DRLs) for the brain, chest and abdomen to determine the causes and extent of variation. A systematic literature search and review was performed in selected databases containing leading journals in radiography, radiology and medical physics using carefully defined search terms related to CT and DRLs. The quality of the included articles was determined using the Effective Public Health Practise Project tool for quantitative studies.

The 54 articles reviewed include 45 studies using human data, 8 studies using phantom data, and one study with both human and phantom data. The main comparator in between studies was the dose indices used in reporting DRLs. DRL variations of up to a factor of 2 for the same procedure were noted in phantom studies, and up to a factor of 3 in human studies. Sources of variation include the type o DRLs in line with the International Commission on Radiological Protection recommendations to reduce dose variation and facilitate dose comparison.
The objective of this systematic review was to uncover and synthesise all available literature regarding appropriate acquisition parameters for direct digital radiography. It sought to either confirm current practices as optimal, or to uncover practices that may produce more optimised results.

A comprehensive search of published and unpublished literature was undertaken to find studies that evaluated how adjustment of different acquisition parameters affected subjective image quality and patient radiation dose. Eight hundred and fifty-eight studies were retrieved for title and abstract screening. Eighty-nine studies were retrieved for full-text screening, and 23 were included for review and methodological quality screening.

Narrative synthesis of the 23 included studies revealed limited evidence to guide any potential change or acceptance of currently accepted best practice. Meta-analysis was unable to be performed for any of the included studies due to high levels of methodological heterogeneity. A key finding of this review was that the goals of optimisation research varied greatly across the included studies.
