Psychiatric disorders in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) and their caregivers play an important role in patients' treatment and follow-up. Our study aimed to examine the prevalence of psychiatric symptoms among patients with PD and their caregivers, demographic risk factors, and the influence of severity and manifestations of PD on psychiatric distress.

We included 125 patients with PD and 125 of their primary caregivers in this descriptive cross-sectional study. The severity of PD was evaluated according to the Hoehn and Yahr severity scale from the Movement Disorder Society-Sponsored Revision of the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale. PD patients and their caregivers completed the Symptom Checklist-25 to determine the presence of psychiatric distress. Also, demographic factors, including age, high level of education, occupation, residence, and cigarette smoking, were assessed in the PD patients and their caregivers.

Using wireless neural recordings in freely behaving rats, we demonstrate for the first time that neural gain in the CN is significantly altered by fear conditioning to auditory sequences. Specifically, the ventral subnuclei significantly increased firing rate to the conditioned tone sequence, while the dorsal subnuclei significantly decreased firing rate during the conditioning session overall. These findings suggest subregion-specific changes in the balance of inhibition and excitation in the CN as a result of conditioning experience. Heart rate was measured as the conditioned response (CR), which showed that while pre-conditioned stimulus (CS) responding did not change across baseline and conditioning sessions, significant changes in heart rate were observed to the tone sequence followed by shock. Heart-rate findings support acquisition of conditioned fear. Taken together, the present study presents first evidence for potential experience-dependent changes in auditory perception that involve novel plasticity within the first site of processing auditory information in the brain.
Tanzania has decreased its child mortality rate by more than 70 percent in the last three decades and is striving to develop a nationally-representative sample registration system with verbal autopsy to help focus health policies and programs toward further reduction. As an interim measure, a verbal and social autopsy study was conducted to provide vital information on the causes and social determinants of neonatal and child deaths.

Causes of neonatal and 1-59 month-old deaths identified by the 2015-16 Tanzania Demographic and Health Survey were assessed using the expert algorithm verbal autopsy method. The social autopsy examined prevalence of key household, community and health system indicators of preventive and curative care provided along the continuum of care and Pathway to Survival models. Careseeking for neonates and 1-59 month-olds was compared, and tests of associations of age and cause of death to careseeking indicators and place of death were conducted.

The most common causes of death of 228ng of institutionally-based interventions targeting maternal labor and delivery complications and neonatal causes of death. Scale-up of Integrated Community Case Management should be considered to strengthen careseeking for the youngest newborns, infants and severely ill children and referral practices at first level facilities.
The study highlights needed actions to complete Tanzania's child survival agenda. Low levels of some preventive interventions need to be addressed. Influenza burden estimates help provide evidence to support influenza prevention and control programs at local and international levels.

Through a systematic review, we aimed to identify all published articles estimating rates of influenza-associated hospitalizations, describe methods and data sources used, and identify regions of the world where estimates are still lacking. We evaluated study heterogeneity to determine if we could pool published rates to generate global estimates of influenza-associated hospitalization.

We identified 98 published articles estimating influenza-associated hospitalization rates from 2007-2018. LC-2 cell line Most articles (65%) identified were from high-income countries, with 34 of those (53%) presenting estimates from the United States. While we identified fewer publications (18%) from low- and lower-middle-income countries, 50% of those were published from 2015-2018, suggesting an increase in publications from lower-income countries in recent years. Eighty percent (n = 78) used a multiplier approach.
