With the increase in the screw rotational speed, the decrease of barrier properties was also observed. No correlation between roughness and permeability of gases and water vapor was shown. It was indicated that biodegradable plastics might be competitive for conventional petrochemical materials used in film blowing niche applications where cost, recyclability, optical and water vapor barrier properties are not critical. This manuscript explores the disassembly potential of ultrasonically welded thermoplastic composite joints for reuse or recycling through resistance heating via a nanocomposite film located at the welded interface. Nanocomposite films containing multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were characterized for thermo-electrical behavior to assess self-heating. It was generally observed that maximum temperature increased with MWCNT and film thickness. To demonstrate potential for disassembly, glass fiber/polypropylene adherends were welded with nanocomposite films. Shear stress during disassembly was measured for three initial adherend's surface temperatures. It was found that the required tensile load decreased by over 90% at the highest temperatures, effectively demonstrating the potential for disassembly via electrically conductive films. Fracture surfaces suggested that disassembly was facilitated through a combination of nanocomposite and matrix melting and weakened fiber-matrix interface. Limitations, such as slow heating rates and the loss of contact at the interface, imply that the method could be more suited for recycling, instead of repair and reuse, as the heat-affected zone extended through the adherends' thickness at the overlap during heating. The experimental and numerical analyses of the pressure vessels with different flat ends are presented and discussed in the paper. The main aim of the study is to propose the optimal flat head end geometry. The analyses are focused on the comparison of standardized geometries and with the proposed elliptical cut-out. The experimental tests with the application of strain-gauge measurements and numerical modeling of the pressure vessel are conducted. The behavior under low and high pressures and the influence of the residual welding stresses, material properties, and geometrical tolerances on the level of the plastic deformation in the flat end is discussed. It is presented that the rules given in the recent standard are not sufficient for optimal selection of the optimal geometry. It is observed that in certain geometries the deviations of the pipe thickness may lead to a significant increase of the equivalent stresses. The residual welding stresses have a significant influence on the stress and strain level-particularly in the stress relief groove (SRG). The performed study and comparison of the different geometries allow for the proposal of the optimal shape of the flat end. It appeared that the pressure vessels with SRG are the most optimal choice, particularly when elliptic shapes are in use. Selleck DL-Alanine In some cases (i.e., pipe with wall-thickness equal to 40 mm and the flat end with circular SRG), the optimal configuration is reached for dimensions beyond the admissible by code range.Self-reported fruit and vegetable (FV) consumption in children has limitations that could be overcome with objective measures that are easy to implement. The Veggie Meter (VM) is a non-invasive portable device that measures skin carotenoid levels, a concentration biomarker of usual FV intake. While VM has been used to measure FV consumption in adults, few studies have explored its use in elementary school settings. Designing research studies using the VM with elementary school-age children requires an understanding of how well this device can be used in a school setting and of the distribution of VM scores in this population. We used VM to measure skin carotenoids in a diverse sample of 143 elementary school children who also answered commonly asked questions about consumption frequency of FV the previous day. Multivariable regression was used to assess the independent association of demographic variables with VM scores. VM scores were also compared with student-reported FV intake. There was a weak but statistically significant correlation between reported frequency of total vegetable consumption the previous day and observed VM scores (r = 0.174, p = 0.042). This study provides an example of the successful use of the VM in a school setting to collect an objective measure of FV intake and provides important description of data that can inform future studies.Polyamines are ubiquitous, low-molecular-weight aliphatic compounds, present in living organisms and essential for cell growth and differentiation. Copper amine oxidases (CuAOs) oxidize polyamines to aminoaldehydes releasing ammonium and hydrogen peroxide, which participates in the complex network of reactive oxygen species acting as signaling molecules involved in responses to biotic and abiotic stresses. CuAOs have been identified and characterized in different plant species, but the most extensive study on a CuAO gene family has been carried out in Arabidopsis thaliana. Growing attention has been devoted in the last years to the investigation of the CuAO expression pattern during development and in response to an array of stress and stress-related hormones, events in which recent studies have highlighted CuAOs to play a key role by modulation of a multilevel phenotypic plasticity expression. In this review, the attention will be focused on the involvement of different AtCuAOs in the IAA/JA/ABA signal transduction pathways which mediate stress-induced phenotypic plasticity events.A mandibular advancement device (MAD) is a commonly used treatment modality for patients with mild-to-moderate obstructive sleep apnea. Although MADs have excellent therapeutic efficacy, dental side effects were observed with long-term use of MADs. The aim of this study was to analyze the force distribution on the entire dentition according to the materials and design of the MADs. Three types of MADs were applied model 1 (single layer of polyethylene terephthalate glycol (PETG)), model 2 (double layer of PETG + thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU)), and model 3 (core-reinforced multilayer). In the maxilla, regardless of the model, the incisors showed the lowest force distribution. In most tooth positions, the force distribution was lower in models 2 and 3 than in model 1. In the mandible, the mandibular second molar showed a significantly lower force in all models. The mandibular incisors, canines, and molars showed the highest force values in model 1 and the lowest values in model 3. Depending on the material and design of the device, the biomechanical effect on the dentition varies, and the core-reinforced multilayered MAD can reduce the force delivered to the dentition more effectively than the conventional single- or double-layer devices.
