Our results revealed a significantly increased expression of miR-146a-5p in PBMCs from pSS patients and significantly increased percentage of Th17 cells compared to PBMCs from healthy controls. Under polarization culture conditions, pSS patient-derived PBMCs can more easily differentiate into Th17 cells, which was, to a great extent, attributable to the increased expression of mIL-23 R. Moreover, ADAM17, an ectodomain sheddase of mIL-23 R, was targeted and negatively regulated by miR-146a-5p, which reduced the ectodomain shedding of mIL-23 R. Overall, our results suggested that miR-146a-5p could promote Th17 cell differentiation through targeting and negatively regulating ADAM17. Eight tissue-level metrics related to brain tissue strain, axonal strain, and strain-rate were evaluated using survival analysis for predicting mild and severe TBI risk. The correlation between TBI risk and most of the assessed metrics were statistically significant, but when injury data was analyzed by species, the best metric was often inconclusive and limited by the small datasets. When the human and animal datasets were combined, the injury analysis was able to delineate maximum axonal strain as the best predictor of injury for all species and TBI severities, with maximum principal strain as a suitable alternative metric. The current study is the first to provide evidence to support the assumption that brain strain response between human, pig, and NHP result in similar injury outcomes through a multi-species analysis. This assumption is the biomechanical foundation for translating animal brain injury findings to humans. A total of 21 women were interviewed for the study about their daily experiences following terrorist attacks that occurred in their urban hometowns. The qualitative analysis program called Atlas.ti was utilized for the coding procedure. Four main themes (the nature of the terrorist attacks, reactions to the event, coping strategies, and the role of the media) and several subcategories emerged from the data. The participants were emotionally affected by these events as they were shocked and confused, their sense of security was shaken, and they felt anxious not only during the events but they also continued to perceive such danger days or weeks after the events.
