Upadacitinib and tofacitinib are Janus kinase inhibitors approved for moderate-to-severe rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In the absence of head-to-head trials comparing their effectiveness, this study assessed the efficacy of upadacitinib 15mg once-daily monotherapy/combination therapy against tofacitinib 5mg twice-daily combination therapy among patients with RA using matching-adjusted indirect comparisons (MAICs).
The first of two MAICs used individual patient data (IPD) from the 14-week SELECT-MONOTHERAPY trial (upadacitinib [n = 217] vs. methotrexate [n = 216]) and published data from the ORAL Standard trial (tofacitinib + methotrexate [n = 204] vs. methotrexate [n = 108]). The second MAIC used IPD from the 26-week SELECT-COMPARE trial (upadacitinib + methotrexate [n = 647] vs. adalimumab + methotrexate [n = 324]) and published data from ORAL Strategy (tofacitinib + methotrexate [n = 376] vs. adalimumab + methotrexate [n = 386]). Cross-sectional study was conducted in 2019. The American Institute for Cancer Research Cancer Risk Awareness Survey questionnaire was administered to medical students at the Centro Universitário Saúde ABC. Students were divided into those in their 1st to 3rd year and those in their 4th to 6th year of medical education. Qualitative variables were described by frequency and percentage, and quantitative variables were described by mean and standard deviation or median and interquartile range. The scores of the groups on the questionnaire were compared using Student's t test. The 95% confidence interval was calculated, and p values less then 0.05 were considered significant. We included 196 students, with approximately 30 to 35 students in each year of medical education. The median age was 22 (18 to 31), with 74% being female. Among risk factors for cancer, smoking (100%), cancer-causing genes (99.48%), and excessive sunlight exposure (99.48%) were the most cited by students. The flood impact on heavy elements (HE) content in the flooded arable soil (n = 16) in relation to the control soil (n = 16) was examined, as well as their accumulation in the most often cultivated vegetables (n = 96) in the studied area. Results revealed that the flood did not significantly change the pseudo total HEs concentration in the soil as well as their amounts accumulated in different soil fractions. In both soils, only the average content of Ni exceeded the maximum permissible values set by Serbian soil quality standard which is in line with the Dutch standard. In comparison with the background values, notable enrichment is found for most of analyzed elements in both soils. Soil pollution status was assessed through several indices indicating that contamination range was in the domain from a moderate to a highly polluted. The principal component analysis demonstrated that soil contamination was probably originated from agricultural/anthropogenic activities (Cd, Cu, As, Pb), apart from Ni, Cr, and Co which came from natural weathering of the parent material. Carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risks of selected HEs for Serbian population in the investigated region were below the threshold values. The average levels of Pb in investigated potato and carrot samples were higher than the maximum allowable concentrations established by EU/Serbian regulation. The total hazard quotients (THQ) of HEs through intake of analyzed vegetables were below the safe threshold (˂ 1), suggesting the absence of adverse health effects.Chlorella vulgaris and Bacillus licheniformis consortium was added to synthetic wastewater with exogenous vitamin B12. In the presence of 100 ng/L vitamin B12, removal efficiencies of TN, NH3-N, PO43-P, and COD were 80.1%, 76.8%, 87.9%, and 76.7%, respectively. The functional groups on the cell surface of the consortium, including -NH, -CH3, C=O, C=C, and P-O-C, increased with 100 ng/L vitamin B12. These functional groups improved the biological adsorption of the consortium; however, higher concentrations of vitamin B12 resulted in an occlusion of the functional groups. Furthermore, there were 5 significantly enriched protein pathways, namely carbon fixation in photosynthetic organisms; amino acid metabolic pathways; the pathway of one carbon pool by folate; nitrogen metabolism; and photosynthesis. Most proteins in these pathways were upregulated, which enhanced carbon fixation and photosynthesis in the algal cells. Simultaneously, B12 promoted significant upregulation of proteins associated with the quorum-sensing pathway, which promoted the interaction between algae and bacteria.
