Routinely exceptional nacre-inspired defensive steel-concrete upvc composite versus hypervelocity effects.
The exacerbation by BPA of hepatic immune-metabolic dysfunction induced by HFD was shown by increased toll-like receptor-4 and its downstream pathways (i.e., NF-kB and NLRP3 inflammasome) amplifying inflammatory cytokine transcription and promoting fibrosis progression. This study evidences that BPA exposure represents an additional risk factor for the progression of fatty liver diseases strictly related to the cross-talk between oxidative stress and immune-metabolic impairment due to obesity.Preventing food spoilage without the addition of chemical food additives, while increasing functional properties of wheat-based bakery products, is an increasing demand by the consumers and a challenge for the food industry. Within this study, lactic acid bacteria (LAB) isolated from sourdough were screened in vitro for the ability to utilize the typical wheat carbohydrates, for their antimicrobial and functional properties. The dual culture overlay assay revealed varying levels of inhibition against the examined fungi, with Lactiplantibacillus plantarum S4.2 and Lentilactobacillusparabuchneri S2.9 exhibiting the highest suppression against the indicator strains Fusarium graminearum MUCL43764, Aspergillus fumigatus, A. flavus MUCL11945, A. brasiliensis DSM1988, and Penicillium roqueforti DSM1079. Furthermore, the antifungal activity was shown to be attributed mainly to the activity of acids produced by LAB. The antibacillus activity was evaluated by the spot-on-the-lawn method revealing a high inhibition potential of the majority of LAB isolated from sourdough against Bacillus cereus DSM31, B. licheniformis DSM13, B. subtilis LMG7135, and B. subtilis S15.20. Furthermore, evaluating the presence of the glutamate decarboxylase gen in LAB isolates by means of PCR showed a strain dependency of a potential GABA production. Finally, due to improved functional activities, LAB isolated from sourdoughs exhibit promising characteristics for the application as natural preservatives in wheat-based bakery products. The misuse of antibiotics as well as incorrect dosage or insufficient time for detoxification can result in the presence of pharmacologically active molecules in fresh milk. Hence, in many countries, commercially available milk has to be tested with immunological, chromatographic or microbiological analytical methods to avoid consumption of antibiotic residues. Here a novel, sensitive and portable assay setup for the detection and quantification of penicillin and kanamycin in whole fat milk (WFM) based on competitive magnetic immunodetection (cMID) is described and assay accuracy determined. For this, penicillin G and kanamycin-conjugates were generated and coated onto a matrix of immunofiltration columns (IFC). Biotinylated penicillin G or kanamycin-specific antibodies were pre-incubated with antibiotics-containing samples and subsequently applied onto IFC to determine the concentration of antibiotics through the competition of antibody-binding to the antibiotic-conjugate molecules. Bound antibodies were labeled with streptavidin-coated magnetic particles and quantified using frequency magnetic mixing technology. Based on calibration measurements in WFM with detection limits of 1.33 ng·mL-1 for penicillin G and 1.0 ng·mL-1 for kanamycin, spiked WFM samples were analyzed, revealing highly accurate recovery rates and assay precision. Our results demonstrate the suitability of cMID-based competition assay for reliable and easy on-site testing of milk.Stress is common in all work environments. Technostress and the difficulty of separating the family arena from the work environment are some of the new and emerging risks faced by companies, employees and society in general. Most of the available instruments for measuring stress in workers have been focused on education professionals and healthcare workers. Therefore, it is necessary to validate simple and friendly-use tools to detect stress levels in public workers. ML414 The aim of this study was to determine the internal consistency of an adapted version of the Student Stress Inventory-Stress Manifestations (SSI-SM) for public employees and to determine if high-stress levels are related to personal and work-related factors. A cross-sectional and descriptive study was conducted from October 2016 to February 2019 including 468 Spanish public workers based in Murcia. An adapted version of the SSI-SM was administered and data on personal and work-related factors were collected. Results showed that all of the factors had Cronbach's α over 0.700, and no items need to be deleted due to correlations with the factor exceeding 0.300. Factor 1, "Self-concept", has a Cronbach's α of 0.868, with values of 15.62 ± 4.99; factor 2, "Sociability", Cronbach's α 0.853, with mean values of 13.33 ± 4.17; factor 3, "Somatization", Cronbach's α 0.704, mean value of 5.35 ± 1.90 and factor 4, "Uncertainty", Cronbach's α 0.746, with a mean value of 8.19 ± 2.51. In conclusion, the internal consistency of the adapted SSI-SM for public employees with different work positions and shifts has been validated and determined. This study provides a useful tool for the early detection of stress in public employees and may be potentially useful for preventing the harmful consequences of stress.Supercapacitors (SCs) are promising for powering mobile devices, electric vehicles and smart power grids due to their fast charge/discharge rate, high power capability and robust cycle stability. Nitrogen-doped porous carbons are great alternatives because they provide pseudocapacitance without losing their power rate. Nanoporous carbon derived from metal organic frameworks (MOFs) is an ideal precursor for preparing heteroatom-doped carbons due to their abundant nitrogen contents and incredible specific surface areas. However, severe aggregations and the leakage of nitrogen can occur during harsh carbonization. In this study, we used CoAl-LDH (cobalt aluminum layered double hydroxide) as an in-situ growth substrate, allowing Co-based MOF to uniformly grow onto the CoAl-LDH to form a sandwiched MOF/LDH/MOF structure. After acid etching, we obtained waffle-like nanoporous carbons (WNPC). WNPC exhibited high nitrogen and oxygen retention (7.5 wt% and 9.1 wt%) and a broad mesopores distribution with specific surface areas of 594 m2g-1, which promoted a sieving effect.
