Expert opinion Experts in oncology, respiratory medicine, occupational and public health, and basic researchers must take responsibility and acknowledge the ongoing silent epidemic of asbestos-related diseases. The call for a world-wide asbestos ban is more urgent than ever.Replacement of food rich in saturated fatty acids (SFAs) with unsaturated fatty acids (UFAs) is a well-known dietary strategy to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease while its impact on postprandial blood lipids is less examined. This study assessed the effects of fatty acids composition on the postprandial triglycerides and cholesterol responses. Seventeen randomised controlled trials were identified and pooled analysis results revealed that consumption of a UFAs-rich or an SFAs-rich breakfast meal did not acutely affect postprandial triglycerides and cholesterol responses. However, subgroup analysis observed that triglycerides incremental area under the curve was lower with an SFAs-rich meal (SMD -0.36; 95% CI -0.57, -0.15) over a less than 8 h duration, while was higher (SMD 0.59; 95% CI 0.05, 1.23) over a longer postprandial duration. It suggests that the postprandial duration is of importance when evaluating the effects of fatty acids composition on blood lipid responses.A measure was recently proposed for the quantitative evaluation of consonant clusters in child developmental speech, the measure for cluster proximity (MCP). Its advantage over the widely used measure of the percentage of consonants correct (PCC) is that it differentiates the three main stages of cluster production reduction, vowel epenthesis, and two-members, correct or not. The purpose of the present article is two-fold a) to contrast MCP and PCC in two-member word-initial clusters produced within children with speech sound disorders (SSDs), tested before and after therapy, as well as in running speech within typically developing children, and b) to examine the correlation between the two measures across children in typical or atypical speech development. Data used are comprised of 34 sets with 18 word-initial cluster types, taken from the speech samples of 18 children. It is found that while there are generally large deviations between the two measures in individual clusters within and between children, the measures have a strong and statistically significant correlation when averaged over all clusters per child, or over all children per cluster class based on the manner of articulation. For the data at hand, a linear equation is obtained yielding MCP values from PCC values with a high coefficient of determination. The results suggest that PCC norms that are used to assess consonants can be used to predict MCP norms in order to assess consonant clusters in child developmental speech.Aim This study was conducted to reveal epigenetic landscape in infantile hemangiomas (IHs) and identify transcription factors (TFs) and their downstream genes active in IHs. selleck inhibitor Materials & methods We performed Assay for Transposase Accessible Chromatin (ATAC-seq) with RNA-seq in three pairs of IHs and their adjacent normal tissues. Functions of candidate TFs were investigated in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Results Chromatin of IH tissues is less compact. Some candidate genes and TFs were identified. In HUVECs, SPDEF inhibited cell viability and tube formation, and promoted apoptosis; SOX4 exerted the opposite effect. SPDEF may act through EPHA5, ZBTB46 and SASH1; SOX4 may act through MMP12 and HIVEP3. Conclusion Epigenetics plays a role in IHs. SPDEF and SOX4 may act in IHs.Background and Objectives Latent profiles of employees' job burnout (e.g., exhaustion, cynicism, feelings of inadequacy) and work engagement (e.g., energy, dedication, absorption) were examined. Moreover, the role of social work-related (multicultural, interpersonal, and project work demands) and personal demands (relationship demands) and social work-related resources (servant leadership, team climate) and personal resources (resilience, self-efficacy) in predicting the latent profiles were examined.Design This study is a part of an Occupational Health Study in which 766 employees participated twice. Methods The results were analyzed using latent profile analysis. Results Two longitudinal profiles of burnout and engagement could be identified, namely high engagement (84% of the participants) and increasing burnout (16%) profiles. Employees who experienced high work-related social resources (servant leadership) and high personal resources (resilience, self-efficacy) were more likely to belong to the high engagement group than to the increasing burnout group. Employees who experienced high work-related social demands (multicultural, interpersonal, and project work demands) and personal social demands (relationship demands) more often belonged to the increasing burnout group. Conclusions Social resources may help in promoting employees' job engagement, whereas social demands are often associated with increasing burnout symptoms. Background Patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) are at risk for peripheral artery disease (PAD) events and venous thromboembolism (VTE). Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) inhibitors reduce lipoprotein(a) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels. Our objective was to ascertain whether PCSK9 inhibition reduces the risk of PAD events or VTE after ACS, and if such effects are related to levels of lipoprotein(a) or LDL-C. Methods This was a prespecified analysis of the ODYSSEY OUTCOMES randomized clinical trial, which was conducted in 18 924 patients with recent ACS on intensive or maximum-tolerated statin treatment who were randomized to the PCSK9 inhibitor alirocumab or placebo. In a prespecified analysis, PAD events (critical limb ischemia, limb revascularization, or amputation for ischemia) and VTE (deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism) were assessed. LDL-C was corrected for cholesterol content in lipoprotein(a). Results At baseline, median lipoprotein(a) and LDL- patients with recent ACS, risk of PAD events is related to lipoprotein(a) level and is reduced by alirocumab, particularly among those with high lipoprotein(a). Further study is required to confirm whether risk of VTE is related to lipoprotein(a) level and its reduction with alirocumab.
