Class C Commercial Driver's License
The class C commercial driver's license (CDL) offers a diverse variety of vehicle types and trucking jobs. From recreational vehicles and buses to passenger vans, and even hazardous transport vehicles, this is one of the most versatile CDLs available.
www.kartaxpresspoland.com can be driven or box trucks dump trucks, buses and other vehicles that can carry 16 or more passengers, including the driver.
Passenger Vehicles
New York drivers can choose from a wide range of classes. The classes are designed to meet the needs of different driving styles and types. If you're planning to cruise down Broadway in your dad's 1986 Toyota Corolla or pilot a semi through the Adirondacks, understanding the meaning of each class is vital.
If you are looking to drive passenger vehicles such as station wagons and sedans the class C non-CDL license is the best option. This license permits you to drive a single vehicle with the maximum GVWR of 26,001 pounds. You can also tow vehicles that have the maximum trailer weight of 10,000 pounds. Drivers may add endorsements to their class C license to gain greater job opportunities. These additional endorsements can include tank (P), passenger (P), tank (T) or hazardous materials (H). Adding these endorsements typically involves passing additional knowledge exams and specific skills tests.
The maximum number of passengers that can be transported in a vehicle for passengers with a class C non CDL license is 16 including the driver. Drivers are also required to limit the number of passengers who are under 18 that they transport in the event that it is not an immediate family member or someone over 18. Teen drivers under 18 who are licensed with a class C license must have a parent or guardian in the vehicle at all times.
To be eligible for a non-CDL class C license you must be 18 or older and pass a medical examination. Additionally you must meet federal requirements to drive on interstates and for transport of hazardous materials.
For those who want to take the wheel of mopeds or motorcycles it is recommended that a driver's license class M is available. It is only available for drivers who are junior, and it is only valid in New York. Drivers with a class-M driver's license can only operate motorcycles and other motorized two-wheel vehicles. New York teens are required to complete a program of training and record their practice time before they can receive their class M license. The license for teens also comes with restrictions such as not being able transport any passengers younger than 21 and not driving between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Combination Vehicles
If your job requires a combination vehicle Class C is the license for you. This license permits you to drive vehicles with a gross mass of vehicle (GVWR), or more than 26,001 pounds, and trailers with a weight of less than 10,000 pounds. This includes small delivery trucks, hazmat vehicles and passenger vans. You can also drive a schoolbus, provided you have the required endorsements and pass the background checks as well as the medical tests.
Many states have added rules and regulations for drivers with this kind of license. One of the requirements is to keep a logbook which shows the number of hours you've driven and the type(s) you're carrying. Failure to maintain this log book could result in fines or even the suspension of your CDL. In some instances you might need to apply for extra load permits if you're hauling cargo that exceeds certain limits.
You must be at least 18 years old in order to be eligible for a Class C license. To move up to a higher-level CDL, you must pass the knowledge and skills tests for that category and finish any required training or on-the-job experience. You must also be 21 years old to drive a vehicle across state lines and transport hazardous materials.
To be eligible for a class C license you must pass a medical examination and pass an identity check, which includes a criminal record search. You also must pass an examination for drugs. Some states require you to complete driver's training classes or participate in safety training for truck drivers before you can be issued the CDL.
There are other requirements that you must satisfy in order to operate a vehicle with a class-C license. Some of these restrictions are age-based and others are based on the type of vehicle or number of passengers you're bringing. For instance, certain states won't allow you to transport non-family members who are younger than 21, and others limit the number of non-family passengers to a maximum of one.
A few endorsements that you could add to your class C license are the P-passenger endorsement as well as the T-double or triple trailer endorsement for California and the H-hazardous substances endorsement. Adding these endorsements typically involves passing a separate knowledge test, and sometimes a special skills test.
Towing Vehicles
A category C+E license is the most complete HGV license you can get that allows drivers to drive a wide range of large vehicles. This includes double and single trailer vehicles with an authorized maximum mass (MAM) that can reach 8,250kg. This permits drivers to drive articulated vehicles like coaches, lorries and the less basic drawbar-based vehicles known as artic or tipper trucks.
Along with passenger cars and trucks, drivers with an ACC license can operate small commercial vehicles such as dump trucks, vans and straight or box trucks. They also have the ability to operate buses that hold more than 16 people for hire as well as vehicles that transport hazardous materials, provided they have the appropriate endorsements.
Tow truck operators are another group of drivers who need a category C licence. They typically use tow trucks with a GVWR less than 26,001 pounds. They can tow other vehicles if the vehicle being towed has a GVWR less than or equal to that of the tow truck.
If the tow vehicle has a greater than 26,001 pounds of GVWR or the driver is planning to transport dangerous materials or passengers, they will require an additional level CDL. There are two levels of operator licenses for tow trucks that are level 1 and level 2. Level 2 certification requires at least one year experience as a driver of a tow vehicle. This certification is required to operate tow vehicles that are greater than 10,000 pounds GVWR, even if they aren't towing or carrying passengers in exchange for compensation.
Drivers with an a Category C license can also obtain an additional licence called a T endorsement. This enables them to drive double or triple-trailer vehicles. They must pass an additional written and a practical test, in addition to an assessment of driving. It is an optional addition to the category C license, and some employers only require their drivers to possess T licences for specific jobs. Some drivers decide to get it to increase their chances in the field and to show that they can operate a more complex vehicle.
Hazardous Materials
You will need a Class C commercial license to operate a vehicle that is able to carry 16 or more passengers, including the driver. HazMat vehicles are also included in this category. This category includes trucks with rated tank, as well as passenger vans and smaller HAZMAT vehicles. The class C CDL holders must possess an endorsement for tanks and may also be required to pass a hazard material knowledge test.
A hazardous material is any chemical, gas, explosive or other substance that is classified as a dangerous material under 49 CFR Part 172. It is defined as a substance that poses a significant risk to life or serious injury, severe damage to property, or causes danger or harm of health or safety for people or the environment and is transported using a vehicle other then an aircraft, railcar or vessel. A person who is a holder of a hazardous material in commerce includes any agency, department or instrumentality of the United States, a State, a political subdivision of a State or an Indian tribe that transports hazardous substances.
The DOT has set specific rules that govern the transportation of hazardous materials. These rules include the requirements for shipping papers, labels placards, labels and other issues. A driver who violates the rules could be charged with a DOT violation and face penalties and fines.
To qualify for a Class C Commercial Driver's License you must satisfy these requirements:
To obtain a Class C commercial driver's licence you must be at least 21 years old and have a solid driving record. You must be physically fit to drive the vehicle you are planning to drive. This means passing a medical examination and undergoing an examination for drugs. In some instances, you might be required to go through a background check and fingerprinting. Also, you must meet the basic requirements of DOT, which includes an in-person course and on-road training. Some companies may require specialized training in hazardous materials for their drivers, which is often an additional cost in addition to the cost of a commercial driver's license class C.
