There is a paucity of research describing the pharmacist's role in the multidisciplinary care of older adults in the intermediate care setting.
To determine the types of drug-related problems (DRPs) in older patients in this setting, to evaluate the implementation rate of pharmacist recommendations and the factors affecting implementation, and to assess the clinical significance of these recommendations.
Data were collected over a 12-week period on one pharmacist's recommendations to reduce clinically relevant DRPs identified during medication reconciliation and review for all patients ≥65 years admitted to an intermediate care unit. The clinical significance of the recommendations was judged by four independent assessors using a validated tool. Statistical significance was predetermined as p<0.05.
Of 494 clinically relevant DRPs identified in 91 patients (mean age 82 years), 406 recommendations were communicated to the medical team, and 89.2% were implemented. Overall, 48.5% were communicated verbated cost-effectiveness in this setting.
The high implementation rate in this study shows the importance of pharmacist involvement to reduce DRPs in the multidisciplinary care of older adults in an intermediate care unit. Future research should focus on investigating the impact of pharmacist interventions on older patient outcomes and the associated cost-effectiveness in this setting.
Despite its importance on myriad outcomes, there is little information on the organizational culture of colleges and schools of pharmacy (CSOPs).
This study sought to (1) identify faculty and administrator perceptions across 5 dimensions of organizational culture in CSOPs; (2) describe differences in these perceptions among faculty varying in type of appointment and type of institution where employed.
A questionnaire survey designed in Qualtrics was distributed via email link to a census sample of 3378 members within 2018 AACP list-servs. Dimensions of organizational culture were adapted from previously validated work describing such specifically within academic pharmacy. Reminders were employed to maximize survey responses. Frequency distributions and chi-square statistics were conducted to describe the data.
Responses from 463 faculty and administrators indicated perceived strength in several aspects of organizational culture in U.S. CSOPs, including their emphasis on quality, developing collaboratiess and address aspects of their organizational culture, particularly related to their performance orientation, innovation and stability.
This study highlighted aspects of organizational culture at CSOPs that might need to be addressed or communicated more effectively by program leaders. Despite reported benefits of transition support programmes for other healthcare professionals, no evidence-based support interventions exist to ease newly-registered novice community pharmacists' (NCPs) transition into practice.
To develop an intervention to provide psychosocial support, support the development of professional behaviours and skills of novice pharmacists in community pharmacy and conduct an evaluation.
The Medical Research Council (MRC) guidance for developing complex interventions was applied to develop a 17-week, pharmacist coach-led intervention, using a social media group, a face-to-face introductory workshop, two webinars, weekly case studies, portfolios (reflective logs and development plans) and a handbook. Twelve newly-registered NCPs participated. A coach log and semi-structured interviews collected data on feasibility, acceptability and perceived impact.
Findings suggest the intervention was feasible and highly acceptable to NCPs, who perceived the coach and social media grouive, albeit online facilitated learning environment, appeared feasible and valuable in supporting guided reflection and developmental discourse. This facilitates transformative learning, and supports NCPs to gain proficiency and become independent reflective practitioners.

Single homologous recombination is used to introduce the integration vector into the chromosome via appropriate guide DNA to inactivate and/or insert genes of interest. The Cre recombinase then removes the region of a selection marker that is no longer needed, and the Escherichia coli replicon between the lox66 and lox71 sites are recombined to a single lox72 site. The CRISPR-Cas9 system can then be applied to remove the inserted foreign gene by targeted cutting. After Cas9 cutting, B. subtilis self-repairs the broken region to its original state without the aid of additional DNA templates. To validate this system, we used T7 and keratinase expression cassettes; self-repair efficiency was evaluated based on the loss or maintenance of the antibiotic resistance gene, as analyzed on selective media. Our results demonstrated that the insertion position in the chromosome is a more critical factor than the insertion length of the gene for efficient self-repair in the B. subtilis genome. selleckchem This concept can provide the applicability of chromosomal editing in B. subtilis.Neurospora crassa has been generally recognized as a safe organism and possesses a remarkable ability to produce yellow-to-orange carotenoids. The present work mainly explored the potential mechanism of exogenous oleic acid on promoting lycopene production in N. crassa. Carbon flux was conducively channelized into the mevalonate metabolic pathway to synthesize more lycopene, associating with the increased levels of acetyl-CoA, NADPH and factors related to the mevalonate pathway. Additionally, exogenous oleic acid boosted the intracellular triacylglycerol production through de novo and ex novo fatty acid synthesis pathways, which contributed to improving the accumulation of lycopene via lipid bodies. Further, the regulated fatty acid profile also enhanced the storage capacity of lipid bodies. Consequently, this study provided an effective strategy to enhance the lycopene production in N. crassa by adding oleic acid to the culture medium and elucidated an extraordinary insight into the potential mechanism.
