Choosing uPVC Replacement Window Handles
Window handles are a fundamental part of uPVC frames and must be matched to the frame that is currently in use. The spindle size is what determines if your new uPVC handles will fit.
Use the table below as a quick reference to measure the length of the spindle of your uPVC handle. This will help you to select the proper window handle replacement for your double-glazed window.
Espag Handle
Espag handles are the most popular type of handle that is found on windows made of Upvc (they're also commonly used in aluminium and timber too). The handles have a square spindle which extends from the handle's back and locks into the multi-point locking mechanism that is on the window. The handle is used to operate the locking system around the window.
Espag window handles come in a number of different options that vary in style based on the design you choose and the function you'd like them to serve. Some come with an option to push a button for a locked closed position, and key-locking. (And nonlocking against fire in the event of need.) Many reach the Secure by Design specification to provide an extra level of security. They also come with a range of different lengths of spindles, that can be adjusted using spindle sleeves that decrease the size of the protruding spindle.
The handles we provide in espagnolette have been tested by Yale to ensure they meet the strict standards you'd expect from such a brand and are suitable for timber, upvc and aluminium windows. We have a range of colors, and can match the handle to the hinges you have already.
The step height is a different important aspect of an espagnolette handle. This is the distance from the end of the handle up to where it sits on the frame, which is why it is essential to ensure it's to ensure a secure and tight fit. Fortunately, the majority of our handle styles comply with industry standards of 43mm between the screw hole centres.
You can choose between straight or Cranked handles. Cranked handles are great for situations where the espagnolette handle is going to be located close to the edge of the frame as they will give you more clearance for opening the window.
Our upvc handle replacement range includes a variety of styles, finishes, and colours that will suit the decor of your home, such as satin nickel, polished chrome, and antique brass. Some of our handles feature a soft-close mechanism to minimize the sound of your windows slamming shut.
Cockspur Handle
The Cockspur Window Handle was designed for fabricators who want to provide their customers with an elegant and luxurious design. These handles are compatible with uPVC windows or aluminium frames. They work by having a spur that locks over the frame edge to secure the window. The window handle can also be lockable, so that it only opens when it is pushed. Repair My Windows And Doors adds additional security. The handle comes in five different finishes, with both right and left hand versions that allow the designer to meet the needs of a wider selection of windows.
The cockspur window handle comes with three packing pieces of different thicknesses. This allows them to be adjusted to a variety of sizes for backsets. Each piece fits snugly under the handle nose and can be removed or added to the size of the step in order to achieve a different backset which ranges from 9mm up to 21mm. The handle is also available in left and right handed versions and both a straight or curved nose design.
When looking for a replacement for your existing handles for cockspurs, you need to measure the current handle's height to make sure that the new handle will be able to fit correctly. The wrong handle could lead to a variety of problems, including the inability of the window to close. This could be a hassle for homeowners and could cause unnecessary stress.
A cockspur handle is a type of handle that can be found on older uPVC and timber windows and also on some aluminium windows. These handles don't have any integrated window locks in contrast to the Espag handles which are used on modern windows. They also come with shootbolts or Espagnolette bar lock.
The espagnolette (often shortened to "espag") handle is the most common type of handle that is found on the latest uPVC casement windows. The Yale Encloser locking mechanism is activated when you turn the handles of the espagnolette. This is much safer than the traditional cockspur handle or British standard handle. This is due to the fact that the handle turns multiple locks to secure the window frame.
Turn and Tilt Handle
These windows are a favorite option for those who want to improve the ventilation in their homes, while offering an additional level of security. As the name suggests they come with the ability to turn and tilt that lets the window tilt open at 90 degrees, giving an opening of a smaller size or to drop into a hopper design to allow for complete ventilation. Dual functionality gives them an attractive appearance which can enhance the appeal of double-glazed windows.
Tilt-and turn windows are more complicated than other double-glazed window designs, which increases the cost of installation. They require more components and more labour. These windows are a worthwhile investment because they can bring value and offer many benefits to your home.
The primary benefit of these ladders is that they allow you to clean your windows without using external ladders. This is perfect for those who live in high rise flats or buildings as it removes the need to go outside and risk falling from a high height. Tilt and turn windows also provide additional security since the window locks when in a tilted state which means that intruders who want to get inside cannot access them from the inside.
Often you will find these handles often on European style windows, especially those in Germany, but you can also get them installed in UK homes. The uPVC handle replacement is typically one that is based on a spindle. It is made of 7mm spindles that are available in lengths of 38mm, 44mm, and 32mm. The base of this handle is also wider than other handles, which is why it's known as a "tilt-safe" window handle. It can only be opened after the window has been locked in a closed position or tilted.
When replacing the uPVC tilt and turn window handle you will need to first remove the existing handle from the window by using the screwdriver. The screws are usually hidden behind a spring loaded backplate. Simply lift this and twist to reveal the two screw holes. You can measure the distance between the two screw holes by using the ruler or tape measuring device. It is usually 43mm from centre to center. Once you have a measurement, you can order the proper size handle for your uPVC window.
Aluminium Handle
Made up of durable diecast aluminium. Finished in a stylish matte black colour. Concealed fixings
Aluminum handles are usually comprised of weatherproof and corrosion-resistant alloys. They are strong enough to meet the requirements of the construction industry. It is easily shaped by industrial metal processing like extrusion and forging which gives it the flexibility and nearly unlimited design potential.
Additionally, aluminium is extremely sturdy and has an excellent strength-to-weight ratio. It can withstand even the most severe of conditions. It is also immune to ultraviolet radiation and can be used indoors. It is also highly versatile and can be colored to fit any style of aesthetic. The possibilities are endless. From classic emulations, hardware metals to vibrant colors of hundreds of pure colors.
Furthermore, unlike iron, aluminum does not rust or need regular maintenance. This is because it has an oxide coating that naturally protects it from damage. The protective layer can also be strengthened by a variety of methods, like anodizing or powder coating, to provide additional corrosion resistance. It will last for decades without any maintenance or cleaning. Additionally, it is an environmentally friendly material that is 100 percent recyclable. It is therefore a great option for industrial, residential commercial and commercial buildings. It also provides high thermal efficiency and is safe from fire.
