Types of UPVC Door Handles
When your upvc door handle needs replacing it's essential to find the right replacement for your home. Locksmiths can supply and install high-security uPVC door handles that have additional security features.
The most important measurements are measurement A (known as PZ) and the length of the backplate (measurement F). Take these measurements to make sure the new uPVC handle will fit.
Lever/Lever
A lever is a rigid bar pivoted around a point (known as a Fulcrum). When you apply force towards the end, the fulcrum will tend to move in the direction of the force is applied. This rotation multiplies your force and lets you lift or move objects that would normally require more force to lift.
The distance between the fulcrum and the point where you apply the force determines how far the lever is able to move. This is known as the mechanical advantage. The advantage in mechanical terms increases as the lever is extended. You can determine the mechanical advantage by dividing the distance from the fulcrum to the point where you're applying the force by the distance between the fulcrum and where you will end the lever.
Levers also have various effects based on the way in which forces are applied. For instance the class 2 lever is inclined to turn in the opposite direction to when the force of effort is applied (like a totter-totter). If you push the handle of a door, the forces will produce the same rotational effects as this.
However, levers don't create energy. They just multiply the force you apply by making a small amount effort over a large distance into a greater amount of force that is applied over a smaller distance. This is what allows you to do more work in less time, which is why levers are often employed to lift heavy objects or moving large quantities of cargo. The lever principle is utilized in everyday tools like crowbars. Hammer claws fishing rods, hammer claws, and your own legs when you stand on the hand brake of your vehicle.
Lever/Pad
Lever pad handles are a kind of upvc door handle that has levers on both sides that operate the multipoint lock. They are available in a variety of variations & finishes and are suitable for a range of materials including UPVC, Aluminium & Timber doors. They are sold in pairs for the doors, both exterior and interior with screws and spindles included. They are available in hand- and non-handled versions to meet the needs of different users.
They are commonly used in new constructions and are used to replace the existing upvc doors. They are usually operated by lifting up the levers to throw out all of the multipoint locks, and turning the key to close or unlock. They offer some extra security in comparison to traditional lever door handles since the locking mechanism can only be gained via the inside using an open key, unless the door is locked.
They are not as secure as a cylinder bolt, but are a reasonable alternative to add security. The only downside is that they do not provide the same level protection like a cylinder lock and so don't prevent external access to your home if the door is left open.
We stock a large number of lever pad upvc handles produced by the top manufacturers in the industry. They are made with high quality components. They are also generally supplied with a manufacturer's guarantee.
Typically, they will be designed to work with a 92mm lock or the replacement version of this called a Paddock lock. They will have a 92mm cylinder centre on the inside and 62mm on the outside and be fitted with 2 spindle followers. Some come with the backplate, and others are movable to accommodate different fixing centers.
Lever/Snib
Lever latches are by far the most simple kind of door handles. By pressing down on the lever, it operates a simple latch mechanism inside the door to keep it closed, which can be locked with a key. Some lever privacy handles operate based on this same principle, but with the addition of a Snib (like the doorknob).
A snib button can be very useful, especially for homes where it's crucial to ensure privacy or security. If your partner is arriving home late from work, you can utilize the snib so that they can't get in until they're ready in. This kind of handle is also popular in interior doors such as bedrooms, where you may need to restrict access from the outside.
In door handle replacement can cause issues, especially if you have doors and locks that are distorted. If the snib button is accidentally pressed, or by someone who isn't familiar with it, the door may be slammed and you locked out. Most of the time, you can get in by knocking on the door frame or the letterbox, but this isn't ideal.
If your uPVC has a snib, we recommend replacing it with a smart lock from the E-LOK 7 Series. These locks can be retrofitted on pull handle kits with double turns and are available with cover plates to conceal existing holes for a seamless install. The E-LOK application is able to unlock doors using RFID cards or a mechanical key. Passcodes are also offered to ensure security and convenience. The system has been tested for 200,000 cycles to ensure its durability. The handles are made from solid metal and are in compliance with BS EN 1670 Grade 5 for resistance to corrosion.
Lever/Moveable Pad
This popular style of handle is typically used for front doors. It is advantageous because it has the benefit of preventing the door from being opened without a key from the outside in the event that the lock has not been deadlocked. This is achieved by using the 'pad-shaped' handle that locks into the gap between the handle and lock case.
This handle is designed to be used with uPVC multipoint locks that use a split spindle mechanism. This type of operation requires that the internal lever handle and external pad handle are both fitted to the same lock case. This can be a simple replacement for the current uPVC handle, but it could also require a new lock case or a new set of handles to handle furniture.
These aluminum levers and movable pads door handles are designed to be used on uPVC and come with an unmaintained slide bearing. They also include fixing lugs, spring cassettes, and an unstick slide bearing. They feature a euro-style cut out and are installed to a variety of uPVC and timber doors.
The lever-movable pad is available in a variety of styles to match a wide range of multipoint locks. They are designed to be used with split spindle multipoint locks with a 92mm cylinder centre and require a specific split spindle set, as supplied by the lock maker.
These Hoppe London lever moveable pad handle 77G/3831N/113 are constructed of cast aluminum with an anodized finish that's scratch-resistant and resistant to corrosion. These handles can be used in combination with other Hoppe products, such as patio door handles. french door handles, and window handles. They also include an escutcheon for security.
Lever/Moveable Snib
The lever handle is among the most well-known kinds of door handles made of upvc and is available in a variety of designs. It consists of two inline handles that move and can be locked with either a key or thumbturn cylinder on the inside. Pad handles can be used as an alternative to lever handles. It consists of either an adjustable or fixed pad which can be used to operate the lock. These Fullex handles have a sprung lever pad and a snib that can be activated in order to hold the latch.
Choosing the right replacement door handles for your upvc doors requires careful evaluation of the PZ measurement, screw centres and the back plate length to ensure that the new handle will fit and work correctly with the lock system you have on your doors.
