Even though it has been widely known that parents influence physical activity (PA) behaviors of children without disabilities, there is no consensus about the effects of parents on PA behaviors of children with disabilities.

The purpose of this study was to systematically review published literature examining the effects of parents on PA behaviors of children with disabilities.

A systematic literature search was performed in three databases.

The search identified 13 studies which met predetermined inclusion criteria. Of the 13 studies, 10 studies were conducted in United States and Canada. The remaining three studies were from three different countries Italy, Australia, and Hong Kong. From the 13 studies, 24 parental factors were identified and categorized into four different dimensions a) participating in PA intervention (four factors included), b) parental support (three factors included), c) parental PA role modeling (five factors included), and d) parental importance of child's PA (three factors included). Six factors across three dimensions (i.e., participating in PA intervention, parental support, parental importance of their child's PA) were significantly and positively associated with PA behaviors in children with disabilities, but no factor in parental PA role modeling was significantly associated with PA behaviors in children with disabilities.

The associations between parental factors and PA behaviors in children with disabilities varied depending on the dimensions of the parental factors. Further studies are warranted to confirm the association between parental factors and PA behaviors in children with disabilities, including cross-cultural comparisons.

The neuropsychological profile of individuals with Down syndrome (DS) has been described as being characterized by dissociations between verbal and visual abilities, as well as between verbal comprehension and production abilities (higher visual than verbal abilities and higher verbal comprehension than verbal production abilities). However, the studies that reached these conclusions based these conclusions mainly on inter-group differences in children but not on intra-group differences.

The study explores dissociations in adults with DS, taking inter-group and intra-group differences into account.

The sample was composed of 40 adults with DS and 38 adults with moderate intellectual disability (ID) but without DS, matched for chronological age, sex, and intellectual level.

The participants with DS, unlike the other group, exhibited similar performance in their verbal and visual abilities, as well as in their verbal comprehension and production abilities (intra-group differences). In addition, they showed worse performance in verbal general measures and verbal comprehension abilities but similar performance in visual general measures and verbal production abilities (inter-group differences) compared with those without DS with similar intellectual levels on standardized measures.

The observed intra-group differences highlight that a lack of dissociation between verbal and visual abilities, as well as between verbal comprehension and production abilities, seems to be a specific feature of adults with DS.

Our study sought to determine whether or not nitrous oxide analgesia decreases pain compared to oxygen placebo during external cephalic version for breech presentation. Procedural success may be limited by pain and anxiety. Although neuraxial anesthesia has been studied extensively for these procedures, many centers lack resources for routine use. Nitrous oxide is noninvasive, has minimal side effects and requires limited facilities. We hypothesized that its analgesic properties would decrease pain compared to oxygen placebo during external cephalic version.

Double-blinded randomized placebo-controlled trial.

Forty-eight patients, ≥18years of age, 37-weeks' gestation or beyond, singleton pregnancy, breech presentation, and American Society of Anesthesiology physical status I-III, having an external cephalic version.

Patients undergoing external cephalic version were randomized to receive self-administered 50% nitrous oxide/50% oxygen versus 100% oxygen placebo.

The primary outcome measured was intra-procedural pain.
